Chapter 21 - Chapter 21: The Shark

While building the raft, Lin Qianyi also suggested expanding everyone's resting area.

Now that everything was on track, they could live in small wooden cabins instead of hastily built shelters.

It was mainly to give everyone a bit of privacy.

They also needed a separate storage room for food.

Currently, the smoked fish was kept in the same shelter where they slept, and the smell was overwhelming.

That's just how people are once their basic needs are met, they start striving for a better life.

Lin Qianyi's suggestion was well-received, although He Yanghui advised against making it too large, thinking it would be a waste of energy.

But Lin Qianyi disagreed. He wanted more privacy, so he decided to build several small cabins one for each person.

He was physically strong, and his folding sword was powerful enough to make the task easy. In a single day, he hauled back a large amount of timber.

Within just a few days, everyone had a basic cabin taking shape. A large central storage cabin was also built to store food, filled with hanging fish and meat jerky.

All stood along the shore, spaced about five meters apart close enough, but with enough privacy.

In his spare time, Lin Qianyi went hunting.

He never failed. The mountain goats had nowhere to run, and he quickly caught them all. He spared four small goats, bringing them back alive to raise for meat later.

Rena took a real interest in caring for the animals and enthusiastically gathered grass for them every day.

In a way, they helped ease the group's loneliness.

After all, humans are social creatures.

In an environment like this, psychological problems could easily arise.

On the 38th day, Lin Qianyi reached the middle section of the U-shaped island's right side for the first time. From there, he could even see remnants of their old campsite.

There, he spotted several wild boars.

Rather than fleeing, they actually charged at him.

Naturally, the outcome was simple: Lin Qianyi returned to camp carrying over a hundred kilograms of meat.

Wild boar meat wasn't great it was tough and had a strange taste.

Still, in a place like this, having meat at all was a luxury. No one complained.

By day 39, the Seagod Grass had been completely used up.

Lin Qianyi had consumed nearly 70% of it himself. The other 30% was split among the remaining four, with a small portion processed into medicine for storage.

He Yanghui was always cautious of the Seagod Grass, suspecting potential side effects, and hardly ate any.

Zhou Hong didn't consume much due to his low metabolic rate.

Su Mandong and Rena had varying capabilities Rena absorbed more than Su Mandong.

Rena could now complete the first 18 movements of the Sanbao Ruyi Exercise in one breath.

In some ways, her physical condition was starting to rival He Yanghui's.

Based on how much more she was eating, her digestion and absorption abilities had significantly improved.

The process of collecting more Seagod Grass wasn't particularly noteworthy.

The sinkhole cliffs were too slippery; otherwise, Lin Qianyi could've climbed down directly.

So, they once again took the raft.

During the journey, Lin Qianyi deliberately examined the dark depths to see if there were large fish.

There were.

Predatory ones.

Lin Qianyi tied his folding sword to a paddle and stabbed from afar. The blade sank deep into the giant fish.

Blood splattered as it struggled, but Lin Qianyi's hand was steady. The coconut-fiber rope held firm and didn't snap. After a few thrashes, the fish went still.

Then, Lin Qianyi dragged it ashore.

On land, the creature was no threat. What worried him was being attacked by it in the water that would've been real trouble.

"Such a large dorsal fin, full of sharp teeth... A shark?"

It looked very much like a shark, though Lin Qianyi didn't know the species. It weighed over 200 kilograms. His sword had pierced its brain, yet it still struggled clearly it had incredible vitality. Perhaps it had mutated from exposure to the Seagod Grass.

This trial seemed like a windfall at first, but the main god had clearly set him up for serious tests.

If he hadn't been careful or powerful enough, this shark would've given him a nasty surprise.

Zhou Hong arrived just then and was shocked. "That big?!"

He thought Lin Qianyi meant a large fish weighing a few dozen kilos he hadn't expected one bigger than himself.

"If we hadn't been careful, it could've gone badly. Be cautious next time we collect," Lin Qianyi said

"We're going back again?" Zhou Hong hesitated, clearly nervous.

Seeing the huge shark had shaken him.

"You've seen the changes in me, right?" Lin Qianyi said, with a meaningful look. "Zhou bro, this is an opportunity. You've got to grab it!"

Not all of Lin Qianyi's transformation came from the Seagod Grass.

He first used the Marrow Cleansing Grass to strengthen his foundation. That's what made the Seagod Grass so effective afterward.

Under normal circumstances, even with the grass, they'd need years of consistent use and training.

Also, the Seagod Grass didn't dramatically boost constitution on its own. The real improvement came from practicing Sanbao Ruyi Exercise.

The grass only helped heal training damage quickly, reducing downtime.

But that didn't stop Lin Qianyi from using it to tempt Zhou Hong.

"Fortune favors the bold!"

Zhou Hong's expression changed slightly.

He understood what Lin Qianyi was hinting at.

It wasn't just about superhuman strength it was about what that strength represented.

Resources like these were unavailable even to society's elite.

And yet, he had easy access to them now. That was real luck.

With such resources, the crimes weighing him down could be easily traded away.

Was he really going to walk away just because of some scary fish?

Especially with someone like Lin Qianyi leading the way it was almost laughable to hesitate.

---

They brought the shark back to camp as emergency rations.

It took two trips.

First, they ferried Zhou Hong back, then the shark. It was simply too big. Even though their raft had extra capacity, this was pushing the limits.

He Yanghui, who had experience with ocean navigation, identified the species it was indeed a shark, just larger than normal.

By now, they were certain about the Seagod Grass's effects.

It really could induce adaptive evolution in creatures.

On day 41, Lin Qianyi's farm space produced new Seagod Grass normal quality, but with the trait "Effectiveness Doubled."

Effectiveness Doubled: All of its beneficial effects on the human body are doubled.

It was similar to the "Potency Enhanced" trait from the Marrow Cleansing Grass, but broader.

It doubled all bodily benefits.

In his cabin, Lin Qianyi retrieved the plant. It pulsed with green light, like a glowing lamp.

He plucked a leaf.

Some juice dripped onto his skin, causing a burning sensation.

But that was it.

His body could now withstand the side effects.

Or rather, they weren't true side effects.

Anything in excess could be toxic even water.

As long as the body could handle it, it was a pure benefit.

A rather violent one.

The energy strongly stimulated his cells, whipping them into evolution.

"Let's give it a try."

Lin Qianyi squinted and swallowed the leaf whole.

Soon, a warm sensation rose from his stomach his stomach acid clearly won the fight.

He felt the same effects as taking a Seagod Pill but much stronger, and with some pain.

The Seagod Grass wasn't just restorative. It was also destructive.

In fact, destruction was more dominant, and healing was a secondary effect.

Lin Qianyi guessed the plant evolved this trait to deter being eaten, but after absorbing some meteoric energy, its transformation became beneficial to other life forms.

So, if one could neutralize its toxicity, it became pure enhancement.

But the toxicity itself was useful.

It was the very key that triggered cellular evolution.

Destruction before rebirth.

After taking so many Seagod Pills, Lin Qianyi understood this well.

The milder ones had minimal effect.

Ironically, the less refined pills the ones with fewer ash neutralizers stimulated growth better.

Just like exercise damages muscle to make it grow back stronger, the Seagod Grass worked on the same principle.

Seeing no adverse effect from the first leaf, Lin Qianyi plucked a whole bunch, mashed them together, and swallowed them.

Quickly, the heat and burning spread from his chest to his entire body.

But at the same time, healing began. Lin Qianyi could feel pain and itchiness mingling.

He seized the opportunity to train.

One by one, he practiced the 48 movements of Sanbao Ruyi Exercise.

His blood surged, muscles trembled, and his breath drew in great gulps of oxygen to fuel the burning within.

Soon, he reached the 40th movement.

After holding his breath for a few seconds, he proceeded to 41st, 42nd, 43rd…

So far, he had only managed to reach this stage.

The last five movements were incredibly difficult.

Executing them smoothly required immense physical strength.

That was the true theoretical limit.

"Crack, crack~!"

His joints and bones snapped with crisp sounds. Not long after, he completed the 44th movement breakthrough achieved!

And he was still going.

His entire body was sending signals of pleasure.

With the help of the Seagod Grass, he was pushing toward his limit!
