As the ringtone sounded in the quiet surroundings, he heard it—it must be his phone ringing. It must be her.
They had broken up until now, and finally, she called him.
"Aunt Xu, bring me my phone!"
He quickly turned over and got out of bed, running barefoot to the door. As he tried forcefully to open the door, again and again, there was only the sound of the iron lock outside, nothing else.
"Aunt Xu, Aunt Xu, hurry and open the door for me."
The ringtone of the phone became more urgent. He knew this must be Serena calling him.
He slammed and pounded incessantly, seeing nobody come from outside. Even if someone did come, they were afraid to unlock the door for him. He turned around, surveying the room all around.
It was a mess; since he was locked in, he had smashed everything he could—the cupboard, lamp, chair, and table lay scattered on the ground.
Only the bed was still relatively intact.
He went over, picked up a chair, and threw it hard in the direction of the door.
