Chapter 30 - - Almost Done

The greenhouse was filled with a soft melody that filled its large space. The place was empty with nothing but different types of plants and trees. There was also one girl playing a violin while a data sheet rested on a wooden stool with an eraser being used as a paperweight. The girl was Vale with her hair down and eyes closed as she played the violin.

On the data sheet were numerous numbers separated in columns, with the top row being deemed greenhouse 1, greenhouse 2, and greenhouse 3. In these columns were also different instruments and, later down the line, different tunes. This was the seventh week, and the instrument and tune were changed, with greenhouse 1 getting a violin with a softer tune.

She kept on playing for a couple of minutes until she finally stopped. She then went over and grabbed a glass of water and poured it onto the soil of a plant in a careful manner. She then cleaned the window that it was next to it until it was clean before she measured the plant and recorded the height. She mumbled about its growth and compared it with the different experiments in her mind. To her, it seemed that softer music worked a lot better compared to heavier music, with it growing more than another plant that had a heavier tone to it.

"I'll come back tomorrow to see how much this melody helped it." She left the greenhouse and went to another one not too far away. It was during the time of day that no one was usually in the greenhouses, which she was thankful for. She didn't want to play music in front of other people when it was meant for the plants, especially since others could make her lose her concentration.

Entering the next greenhouse, she went to a specific plant and filled up the same cup to the same line compared to the other one. This plant experienced the violin with a more rapid tune, and today it was going to experience a flute with a slower tune. She sat down and started to blow into the flute and pressed the holes accordingly. As she played, she fell into deep concentration.

The sound of the flute slowly started to fill the greenhouse. It was calming to her to play in the quiet, which was one of the reasons she was so happy to switch to this after playing for people to see how it changed their moods, which she found massive results in. She kept playing while keeping track of how long she was playing for in her head. In these types of experiments, it was essential for her to keep as much the same such as time and how much water the plants got.

After a couple of minutes, she stopped playing the flute and picked up the water and poured it in the same pattern as she did with the last one. She cleaned the window next to it as well before measuring the plant. It got similar results compared to the previous one, which made her frown. She knew the growths were going to slow down eventually, but it was too early for her not to get satisfying results.

She then made her way to the next greenhouse and did the same thing, except she used heavy music for this plant and used her phone to play drums. Thankfully, with this plant, she could already notice that the plant was significantly smaller than the other ones by an inch. Sadly, this could be chalked up to out-of-control influences, but she was going to ignore that and hope that it was her type of music she played. After doing the same things and measuring, she imagined herself pumping her fist. She would never do that, actually.

She then looked over the results of all of the data she had gathered. Tomorrow would be the last day that she measured these things and would then allow herself to become Rank 1. She tried to be as thorough as she could during this whole thing. Some people, like Keith, who were doing a whole element, were even ahead of her, so this gave her confidence that she was thorough enough in her research and study. The only person that she would be ahead of was Dirin Arbor, but she didn't care much for that. Although it was being hidden, it wasn't hard for her to tell that he was doing a lot more than anyone else was doing, so she already chalked him up to be an outlier.

She packed her instruments up and started to head back to the music room to put them away. It wasn't a long walk there, but it was still longer than most walks she had to take. After getting there and putting the things away, she decided to waste her time and write sheet music for herself to play. There wasn't any real reason for it besides her simply wanting to pass time. The plants were the last thing on her plans, but it wasn't something that could be done today. So, she had to wait painfully till it was then.

The music was fast with twelve beats per measure. She got this idea from an early fight she watched online between two Rank 5s. It started off fast, but it would end up with four beats per measure with many half notes in there, with the final being a whole note. Its pace would match the fight, with it being quick and then dying down with the whole note.

While making it, she thought of the fight and tried to do it from memory. She was going to do it with an acoustic guitar, so she had to figure out which string and fret she was going to use to make it sound good and match the fight itself. As she did it, she smiled to herself as she put down each note. This was the only couple of things that she found fun when she wasn't doing anything else. Watching Dirin and Ritchard training was fun for her, though, but with Dirin nearing the end of his training, she didn't see him try as many things as he did before, and it made his rhythm slow down a bit.

"I wonder how his rhythm will change when he becomes Rank 1?"
