Just then there's a crack in the door as a lady walks in.
"You have visitors"
she says.
A guy and a lady walk in
"Kaiden"
"Thane" I respond
They sit beside my bed
Mom is looking at me smiling.
"how are you Kaiden"
"good mom, you".
"doing great" she responds.
"It's been awhile buddy"
"yeah, good to see you in one piece" he says
"how's Ellie"
"she's great, she asks about you often. but hey soon your gonna be outta here and everything will be ....."
"Not everything" I interrupt.
"Alex isn't here anymore".
Silence fills the room, the air blowing gently.
"but at least we should all be happy that your alive"
Thane says with a smile spreading across his face that breaks the silence.
Few minutes later after chatting with them they rise up to leave.
"um, mom how's Dad doing?"
no sooner had I dropped that question,
Her face began to tighten.
"I figured you'd ask that" she says with solemness in her voice.
"your father...passed away"
I gasp.
"This is just a dream...right?" I ask rhetorically.
"how did... I mean...what the hell?"
I sit down with my legs touching the floor.
I slowly get up hoping to feel an excruciating pain but none.
"Fuck...I...aaaaaaa"
"c'mon let's get out of here"
"what are you saying you're not medically cleared for anything"
"I can't wait here any longer don't you see someone is out there and wants all of us dead".

Mom stops the argument
"Dear I think you should just focus on your self now we'll see what we can do tomorrow".
"now that's a relief" I sit on the couch behind me.
"we'll be leaving now bye
"She's sad I can feel it, how lonely she must be".
I get up from the sofa and climb the bed to get some sleep.
As I wake up the sun casts it's golden glow on my face.
Mom and another figure in a white coat walk in
"Kaiden, right?"
"Your mom and I were working on your medical records and from the looks of things it seems you've been responding quite well to treatment and now I'm happy to say you're good to go"
I'm shocked after his speech it's like a bomb had exploded and affected my ears.
"really it's only been two days" I say to myself
I get up and follow mom to the exit.
Outside, thane is standing beside a car
As we get in.
Mom drives.
Not a word is mentioned just the engine of the car revving.
we approach a bridge and there's a traffic jam.
it began to take too to long so mom stepped down to go see what the problem was.
the commotion of people and honking of impatient drivers at the slow traffic jam was much.
All of a sudden my ears went deaf
I can't hear anything or anyone.
Then in a split second something collides with the ground causing an explosion making the bridge to vibrate.
People begin running trying to take cover
thane jumps to the driver's seat and rides us out of there
"wait, my mom she's still there"
I open the door and run back to the crash site looking around for a clue, I walk a little bit farther and I see her purse but she's not there.
"shit where is she?".
few minutes later fire trucks started rolling.
"sir please evacuate this area".
A males voice.
Soon after he said that
"I'm not leaving...not without my mom".
"this place isn't safe anything...".
Another explosion just ahead.
This one made the bridge divide cutting off the only link to the other state from ours which meant some serious construction was going to commence.
"something tells me we're in for something, this is bad".
I say to myself.
"Aaaa"
A females voice just underneath the heap of rocks.
The cops ran and took out the rocks and brought out a lady.
"Mom". I yell running towards her.
I give her a hug.
"are you okay... you're not hurt right?"
"Kaiden... I'm alright"
"good cause I'm not gonna be able to live with myself if anything bad happened to you.
Her face looks surprised.
"Hey guys c'mon let's move"
we get into the car and thane drives us home.
Getting down from the vehicle that sweet feeling of home, memories begin coming back like they've been waiting for me, our dog runs towards me and jumps as I fall on the grass, he's licking my face.
I get up and walk in through the door
I let myself fall on the nearest sofa as I sank deep into it.
"Damn I've missed this".
I slowly close my eyes to get some sleep

Thane and Catherine are offloading kaiden s luggage from the car.
They carry it up to his room
"crap why's it this heavy" thane says.
Catherine doesn't say a word she's just staring at Kaiden sleeping.
"um, Mrs Catherine are you alright"
thane asks with a concerned look
"..."
"I'm confused" Catherine says
"what do you mean Mrs Catherine?" thane asks
"I mean without a father who's Kaiden supposed to look up to" she responds
"I know Kaiden, he knows how to handle himself plus he's got his mom to look up to" thane says with a radiant smile.
A beeping sound is heard from thane's pocket as he reaches for it.
"I'm sorry but I have to run along now I'll stop by tomorrow to see how he's doing".
"thank you thane, you have been of great help to us". Catherine says
"sure anything for my best friend". he says and leaves.
few minutes later

I awaken from the haze of sleep.
after a yawn and a couple of stretches.
I climb the stairs though my body is still heavy I had to persist.
"Kaiden time for dinner".
I hear my mom call out.
"finally, time for a good meal".
I say to myself.
The clanking of spoons at the dining table.
"The food tastes great mom"
"thank you" she responds in a soft tone.
She gets and carries her plate along to the kitchen.
"Weird, but oh well".
I clear up the table and go to the kitchen.
I grab some quick snacks from the fridge and head up to my room.
"Kaiden" my mom calls out.
I knock on the door.
"come in" she says
I don't but this was kinda weird.
She opens her wardrobe and brought a rectangular box that was sixty to seventy three cm long.
"..."
"what is this?"
"This is what your father left you before he died".
I pause for a moment then slowly opened the box
"so he knew what I wanted".
A katana and from the looks this thing was made of pure titanium.
"this could cut fire in half" I say with a grin.
"let me ask"
"mhmm"
"do you know how to wield that thing I mean I don't want you to hurt yourself or anything". she says with concern.
"Sure I mean dad taught me a few but only with a wooden sword but those were only the basics I guess but there's more to learn when it comes to the real thing".
She's looking at me and it's seeming that something I said had made her satisfied.
Well after that I put the sword back into the box and took it to my room.
Then I jumped on my bed and it's coziness taking me to sleep.
A loud and strident sound is heard and I open my eyes
my alarm clock so dratting.
"it's eight already"
I'm picking up the scent of something sweet my nostrils filled with this familiar scent.
"don't tell me...pancakes!!!"
I quickly run down the stairs
"morning mom"
"morning Kaiden how're you"
"good"
"hope you slept well".

"how are you mom"
"I'm good".she responds
"hope your injuries are healing up fast, thane said he'd drop by today" she says
"ok I'll be expecting him" I say with my mouth stuffed with pancakes.
As soon as I was done I quickly go get prepared and move out and head straight to the bookstore.
Few minutes later the old man arrives.
"Elegant Of you all, now let's get down to business shall we" he says
