Chapter 20 - The Card

Scene opens in the early morning. The sky is pale blue, sunlight barely peeking through the thin clouds. A quiet, peaceful morning breeze brushes the trees. Inside Yukio's apartment, a kettle whistles softly in the background.

Yukio: Sitting at the kitchen table, eyes half-lidded as he absentmindedly scoops up a mouthful of plain rice and miso soup …Another day of the same thing. Wake up, eat, game, maybe go outside for 10 minutes, eat again, then sleep.

He pauses, chewing slowly, his face as unreadable as ever. He looks at the clock—8:27 AM.

Yukio (Internally): I should probably do something else for once… but nothing comes to mind.

His eyes drift to the side of the table. A small, neatly placed white envelope lies there with elegant lettering.

Yukio: …The card. He puts down his chopsticks and picks it up, casually tearing the top open and sliding the paper out. He reads silently, lips barely moving.

"Hello, Asahi-san.

We're inviting you to join us, Hololive.

We've seen your grades, attitude, and other attributes.

We believe you have potential.

That's why we're offering you the position of 'Leader of Talent Managers.'

Monthly salary: 5,000,000 yen.

Details will be explained upon arrival.

Thank you for your time.

— A-chan (Hololive)"

Yukio: …Hololive?

He grabs his phone and searches the name. After a few seconds of loading, the homepage of Hololive pops up. Colorful thumbnails, flashy intros, and squeaky voices begin to fill the screen. He scrolls casually.

Yukio (Internally): A V-Tuber company? Is this even real? He keeps scrolling until— …Oh. He sees Pekora's smiling, chaotic thumbnail face. I should've known.

He continues scrolling without much expression.

Yukio (Internally): I don't have any reason to work for something like this… but… He looks back at the number in the card. 5 million yen a month?

He slowly places the phone down and stares at the ceiling in silence for five seconds.

Yukio: Calmly but sincerely That's… a lot of snacks.

He imagines himself with dozens of bags of his favorite expensive snack—piled up like a dragon hoard. In his mind, he's sitting on a throne of chip bags, sipping soda like royalty.

Yukio (Internally): I could finally afford the premium battle pass every season… maybe even buy an actual gaming chair.

His head slams softly onto the table in a moment of fake despair.

Yukio: Ugh… But working? With people?

Long silence. The screen shows him lying face-first on the table, completely still.

Cut to 15 seconds later.

Yukio: Sits up suddenly with clarity …But 5 million yen a month. Okay. Never mind.

He picks up his phone and simply types:

"Sure."

Then hits send.

Cut to later that day. Time passes. Yukio's sitting on the couch, munching on the last of his snack stash, remote in hand, flipping through channels without any real interest.

Yukio: Sees his phone buzz with a Gmail notification and opens it slowly.

"Hello, Asahi-san. Thank you for your response.

We've sent a package that contains your work uniform.

It should arrive within a few hours.

You'll begin in three days—Monday at 8:00 AM.

We'll be waiting for you.

— A-chan (Hololive)"

Yukio (Internally): Work uniform too? They're really going all in. Looks like I won't have to borrow money from my sister anymore. One less headache.

Time skip—about 4 hours later. The sky is orange as the sun begins to set. Yukio is playing a rhythm game on hard mode when he hears a knock knock knock at the door.

Yukio: Pauses the game and stands up slowly. He opens the door—and there's no one there.

He looks down. A small, square package sits neatly in front of the door. His expression doesn't change.

Yukio: Picks it up and brings it inside, placing it on the table.

He opens it calmly and inside lies a professional set of clothes: a dark blue jacket with the Hololive logo embroidered on the side, a clean white shirt, sleek black pants, and glossy black shoes.

He stares at it for a few seconds.

Yukio: … Might as well try it on.

Cut to a few minutes later. He stands in front of a full-length mirror. The outfit fits perfectly, accentuating his clean look and sharp features. He turns to the side, lifts the collar slightly, and nods.

Yukio: It's… surprisingly comfy. And not bad.

He slowly changes back into his usual hoodie and sweatpants combo, placing the uniform back into the box gently.

Yukio (Internally): Just hope this job won't be annoying. Let's see if this "Hololive" thing is really worth it.

Scene fades out with Yukio lying back down on his bed, remote in hand, eyes slowly closing as the room darkens.
