Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

"It was supposed to be a happy ending!!" she screamed. "Ugh, I hate this book now, you are no longer my favorite book," she huffed out angrily, ignoring the slight tears coming out of her eyes. "Jennifer Ni, ven I now despise. you",

"Omg, who am I kidding? This is my favorite book! I love 'All The Bright Places' but WHY!?" she screamed, frustrated, going head first onto her pillow, gripping it till her knuckles turned white.

"Ramona, qué haces con esa gritadera!?" her mom barged open into her daughter's bedroom.

"Mamaa, tengo una buena razon he died at the end mom!" She pointed the book at her mom, pouting angrily. "Que te dije sobre leyendo sobre esas estupideces, read something educational," her mother leaned against the dresser, arms crossed, looking at her daughter with a pointed face. Her mom was pretty tall among a lot of girls, she's 5; '9 with long, thick legs, nice curves, and beautiful wavy black hair with hazel eyes. Her mom is so pretty, it's unfair.

"You know I'm not doing that, have you seen my room up close, Momm?" Ramona says sarcastically, immediately regretting being sarcastic towards her mom. The older glanced around the room where books lay and were piled all over the room. She sighed, uncrossed her arms, and grabbed one of the books on top of the dresser. "Tu sabes que? I used to love reading all the time hun but don't let that get on the way of your school I never was able to go to college cause mi mama couldn't afford it, and WE can't afford it, you need to get a scholarship" Looking through the pages of the book she placed it back down when she finished talking looking up at Ramona.

"Yo se mam. a" She swallowed and gave her mom a forceful smile. She's heard this conversation plenty of times. It's annoying her, she gets good grades, a 95 or up, but if it's a 9,5, her parents always saWhyhy not a 100, She gets a 100, why no extra credit? It's utter bullshit. She loves hermomo, but she can always be a little too much. "Pues, I'm going to finish up cooking la sopa." Her mom heads out of her room, leaving the door open as always, making Ramona sigh in annoyance. She drags herself up from the bed and closes the door, plopping back down to where she sat.

Ping!

Ping!

Ping!

Ramona quickly grabs her phone from the edge of the bed and unlocks it, clicking on messages. It's her best friend.

N: Hey R

N: Are u doing anything??

N: Wanna see if u wanted to hang at the mall

She smiled at the invitation from her best friend.

R: Gotta ask my mama first yk

Quickly getting up from the bed, she dashed through the door into the kitchen, bumping into her older brother. her

"Yo watch it perra!" Ramona ignored her brother's insult and stood next to her, who was stirring up their traditional dish. "Mamaaa"

"Qué quieres Ra? Mona," her mom distractedly asked, pouring more water into the soup. "Can I go to the mall with Nicole? PLEASEE" Ramona looked pleadingly at her mother, trying to make puppy eyes to her mom, knowing it definitely won't work. But hey, that doesn't make her stop trying.

" No," And all hope she had crashed down into the ground. She sputtered at her zero hesitation. "But ma-"

, Pero mama," her mother mockingly said to her. Turning around, she looked at her daughter and said, "Have you done tu tarea? Have you done your room? Your laundry? Hm?"

"I think so, and yes, and no, and come on! It's only for today, like one hour, please," Ramona whined out pleadingly, placing her hands together as if she was begging.

"You know what you can do, grab el chile y tomate y cortarlo"

"Uh- What, Mom! If I do my laundry, can I go pleaseee?" Her mom stood stilll glanced at the other, and saidPregúntalele a tu pap."

She looked at her mom with an 'are you kidding me' face. Go ask Dadd? Like, bru, she could've just asked him in the first freaking place! Ignoring her older brother's mocking laughter, she stomped her way over to the living room.

"Papi?"

"Que"

"Can I go to the mall with Nico, please

"Okay, who's going with her?" She jumped with relief and said yes. Immediately telling him her mom was. (Okay, that was a slight lie, I mean her mom is technically dropping us off there, which is considered going)

"Okay llamame cuando llegas y cuando vas a venir"

—-

"¡Gracias Señora!"

"Bye mom"

"Esta bien mija, Nicole llamame cuando ustedes terminan"

"Okay mom, byeee"

Nicole looked over her slightly shorter friend and grabbed her shoulders excitedly, dragging her to Forever 2,1, knowing her best friend dislikes that store, actually, scratch that HATES that store.

"Nicole, why here first?" The brown curly-haired girl crossed her arms together to her chest.

"Ramona, look me in the eyes and tell me you don't LOVE the clothes they have here?!" Nicole yelped out with excitement.

"I'd rather die than be here right now".

"Mood killer," Nicole rolled her eyes at her best friend's antics.

"Soo, how's Gavin?" Ramona wiggled her eyes to the taller one while browsing through the clothes. "Oh my Go, shut up!" Nicole flushed. She backedfired by saying, "How's Shawn HMM?"

"Hey! At least I make progress with him, let alone talk to him!" Ramona playfully shoved the brunette teasingly. "Mind you! I DO talk to him, well sorta," Nicole muttered the last part, thinking her best friend didn't hear her. Curse her hearing! We'll half her hearing.

"You even know you're too scared to talk to him, if you just go with my advice, you won't be single and you'll be mingling since I'm the love therapist/love expert/matchmaker"

"Bruh, you may be so knowledgeable on love and blah blah blah BUT you can't even get out of the talking stage with Shawn." Nicole gave her a pointed look, grabbing a tank top with the six other shirts, three shorts, and two jeans.

"I haven't made a move yet because I don't know if he feels or has any slight interest in me," the shorter sighed in defeat, sliding down the door of the changing stall of the fitting room, waiting for her friend to finish with her clothes.

"Br,o why wouldn't he? You're aweso, me besi, des have you seen several guys that asked to be your girlfriend or try to hook up with you?"

"That's because they just want a good, easy fuck, you know that also lose the flannel, it doesn't look like you. She gave a weird look at the shirt her friend was wearing.

"But listen! At least you have guys who have sexual interests in you," Nicole smirked teasingly.

"You may want guys lining up at your door for those reasons, but I'd rather have guys lining up at my door for being me rather than my disgusting body," She snarled, just thinking about how guys can be so desperate.

"You hooked up with Williams last summer," Nicole opened the doo,r watching Ramona's entire body fall backwards from the door. She giggl,ed "I don't even know how you were so obsessed with William."

"Don't even get started on it, please," Ramona grimaced at the mention of the summer hook-up. Her huge, obsessive crush on William was so bad. She confessed her love for him like ten times and still got a one sort of yes and no answer, and the rest were all just straight up rejections. Is he toxic? Yes. Does she care? Nope!

Ramona stood near the exit of Forever 21 that led to the inside of the mall waiting for Nicole to finish paying. Getting bored from her phone she turned it off and stood crossed arm looking at everyone passing by but a familiar sight of brown short curly hair and pale skin makes her eyes go comically wide. At a state of panic she immediately tries to hide behind a mannequin in the brighten store.

"What are you doing?"

"Holy shit! You fucker!" She yelled out to the taller. Nicole backed away, holding her hands out as if she had been caught i the act with her shopping bag in her arms. "Damn, sorry! Why are we hiding behind this very nude mannequin?"

Ramona ignored her best friend's question and looked behind the mannequin to see if the boy and his group of friends were gone. She sighed in relief when he was no longer in sight. Turning around, she looked at Nicole, seeing her confusion.

"William is here with his friends," said with a straight face. Trying so hard not to blush. Glaring at her best friend's laughter. How dare she make fun of her!

"Ramona?"

Oh shit.
