After his demonstration, Dumbledore lowered his wand, allowing the last wisps of black mist to fade away.
His voice was low and thoughtful. "The Obscurus is incredibly malleable, yet at the same time, profoundly uncontrollable. Most people's understanding of an Obscurus ends at its unpredictability."
"They forget its potential for Transfiguration—the ability to wield such tremendous power, to shrink or expand at will… isn't that the very essence of advanced magical transformation?"
Wyzett nodded, still a little lost. This was well beyond anything he could fully grasp.
He knew, though, that Dumbledore's mastery of Transfiguration was legendary. Without the headmaster's annotated notes, even reading The Theory of Transubstantial Transfiguration would have been a daunting task.
"So, just a bit of idle musing…" Dumbledore smiled warmly. "It's only my perspective, shaped by my knowledge, my experiences, and everything I've lived through."
"You and I are different. You possess a unique gift—one that will help you understand magic with half the effort and twice the result."
"A unique gift?" Wyzett pressed his lips together, uncertain.
"Yes!" Dumbledore nodded, eyes twinkling. "Your eyes… the Oculus Magicae. It's an ancient, exceedingly rare talent."
"Headmaster Dumbledore…" Wyzett's eyelid twitched. "Did Mr. Ollivander tell you?"
"He did. He wanted to ensure absolute secrecy, so he came to me." Dumbledore rolled up his sleeve to the elbow and clenched his fist.
As he did, three chain-like lines shimmered into view along his forearm, glowing with a firework-like brilliance.
Wyzett asked tentatively, "Headmaster Dumbledore, is that… a magical contract?"
"Exactly! Your knowledge is impressively broad—that's a good thing." Dumbledore gave him a look of genuine approval. "This is an Unbreakable Vow—one of the most powerful magical contracts in existence."
"Unbreakable Vow…" Wyzett echoed quietly.
He had guessed, from the talk of secrets, that some kind of contract was involved, but he hadn't known the details.
"So… does that mean this magical contract can't be broken?" he asked, following his principle of always asking when uncertain.
"In a sense, yes—it cannot be broken," Dumbledore confirmed. "If someone breaks the vow, they die."
Wyzett drew in a sharp breath. "That's a dangerous contract! But it's certainly safe."
"Headmaster Dumbledore, if it's not too much to ask… why did you make such a dangerous vow?"
"Because Ollivander treasures your gift above all else," Dumbledore explained. "When he told me about it, I was just as startled as you."
"To keep your secret from ever falling into the wrong hands, he made me swear the contract. The terms are simple: neither of us can reveal your Oculus Magicae to anyone else."
"Mr. Ollivander really… I…" Wyzett was deeply moved.
He'd only met Ollivander once, yet the wandmaker had gone to such extraordinary lengths for him.
Though he'd been studying wandlore, it had all remained theoretical—he hadn't yet dared to try any real crafting.
Dumbledore smiled, easily sensing the shift in Wyzett's emotions.
"Wandmaking isn't something you master overnight. It's an extension of alchemy, really. You need a vast foundation of knowledge before you can truly learn the craft."
"You should relax and enjoy life in the magical world. If you end up in the Hospital Wing again for overworking, Madam Pomfrey might come after me next."
Wyzett thought of The Theory of Transubstantial Transfiguration and couldn't help but smile. "Mr. Ollivander told me the very same thing."
"All right, enough worrying!" Dumbledore gave his shoulder a reassuring pat and produced two lemon drops.
He handed one to Wyzett, unwrapped the other for himself.
"I'm telling you all this because your eyes are truly special. And that reminded me—there's something I think would suit you perfectly…"
He reached into his robes and pulled out a well-worn notebook.
On the cover was a peculiar symbol: a circle enclosed within a triangle, a single straight line running from the apex of the triangle straight through the circle's center.
Wyzett accepted the notebook. Besides the symbol, two signatures stood out: Albus Dumbledore & Gellert Grindelwald.
He ran his fingers over the cover, unable to stop himself from asking, "This notebook… it belonged to you and Gellert Grindelwald?"
"Yes. It's my secret—one I hope you'll keep for me." Dumbledore winked, looking both solemn and generous.
Wyzett cleared his throat, trying to steady his racing thoughts.
The connection between Grindelwald and Dumbledore was legendary; even the Fantastic Beasts films hinted at something profound. But he'd never imagined the two had once shared a notebook—let alone collaborated on magical research.
Dumbledore gazed at the notebook, nostalgia in his eyes. "Grindelwald's eyes were remarkable. Not quite the Oculus Magicae, but a rare gift nonetheless."
"He possessed True Sight, making him a genuine seer… He could even use it to precisely anticipate his opponents' next move."
"Headmaster Dumbledore, am I right to think…" Wyzett felt his breath catch, "…this notebook could help me develop my Oculus Magicae?"
"Not exactly 'develop'," Dumbledore said gently, shaking his head. "But I do think it could serve as a reference. After all, the Oculus Magicae is even rarer than True Sight."
"In those days, Grindelwald and I were rather obsessed—fascinated with pushing the limits of True Sight, and we recorded a great deal of theory."
"We put all our findings in here," he said, patting the notebook, "and I've preserved every magical trace, every scrap of research."
"Isn't this… too precious?" Wyzett asked, a little worried. "And what about the names on the cover? How should I hide them?"
"Good lad!" Dumbledore's voice was as gentle as a father's. "I'll add a little extra protection for you…"
He took back the notebook, drew his wand, and traced intricate patterns over the cover as if writing invisible words.
A moment later, he closed the notebook and handed it back.
As soon as Wyzett touched it, a gentle warmth spread through his palm, and the notebook was enveloped in a soft, golden glow…
