Chapter 73 - Chapter 73: Noose and What’s Going On!

"I can't believe it! I really can't believe it! They actually succeeded!"

Nosuo's expression twisted with manic joy. It wasn't just excitement—it was ecstasy, genuine and from the depths of his ancient soul. The final form he had long pursued might finally be realized in this new era's King of Curses.

He was so overwhelmed that he even opened his skull, revealing a pulsating white brain, and began crying tears of joy.

Suddenly, a burly man passed by, grabbed the rope at Nosuo's feet, and yanked it. Nosuo's body was sent flying backward, smashing through several buildings in a crash of splintering wood and stone.

"Get out of the way."

Fushiguro Jinji didn't care if you were man, woman, or something in between. The concept of holding back didn't exist in his world. He was indifferent to everything and everyone—rightly earning him the title of a true tyrant.

Besides, whatever Nosuo was, it certainly didn't count as human. Who in their right mind opened their skull just to express happiness?

Amid the ruins, Nosuo's skull closed with a faint click. Using both hands, he shoved aside the debris and rose from the rubble. His eyes narrowed as they landed on Fushiguro Jinji.

He hadn't sensed Jinji at all earlier. Was this the infamous Heavenly Restriction?

Nosuo stared hard. As someone who had lived for over a thousand years, he naturally knew of Jinji's existence—born with overwhelming physical strength but no cursed energy. A monster among men.

Fighting him here was pointless. It would only attract James's attention. And once James showed up, getting close to the cursed fetus would be impossible.

Nosuo wasn't reckless. He took one last look at Jinji, then turned to retreat.

Jinji didn't give chase. To him, Nosuo was just another cursed spirit—odd-looking and strong, sure, but not worth the effort.

Meanwhile, both were unknowingly moving toward the same destination.

James sat silently beneath the cursed fetus, his long sword stabbed into the earth beside him.

Suspended above, the cursed fetus floated like an unborn child in amniotic fluid—its tiny body curled tightly, radiating an oppressive aura. James had tried approaching it earlier but found himself unable to make contact.

"This... is this the realm of life itself?"

Should he wait for it to be born? Or should he force its birth?

James mulled over the questions. When Mei Mei had pulled him toward Kyushu Island, he had sensed a powerful presence calling to him—something deeply connected to his existence.

Was it this cursed fetus? Did it have something to do with him?

For centuries, Jujutsu sorcerers and cursed spirits had maintained a precarious balance. A mysterious force ensured their powers remained equal, keeping the scales of fate from tipping too far in either direction.

But over a decade ago, Gojo Satoru was born—an anomaly. His overwhelming strength disrupted the balance, causing sorcerers to gain the upper hand. In response, the world began amplifying the power of curses to restore equilibrium. Thus, modern cursed spirits grew increasingly formidable.

That was also the moment the fetus began losing its energy—its power siphoned away to feed other cursed spirits. To the force of balance, an unborn curse held less value than one already active in the world.

Then, one year ago, James arrived in this world.

Once again, the balance tilted—this time in favor of the Jujutsu sorcerers. To compensate, fate once again selected a cursed spirit to restore the scales.

Just like it once chose Sukuna...

"So... should I just call Gojo and Geto here to double-team it?" James muttered, stroking his chin thoughtfully.

"Open status panel."

Every stat had improved since the last battle. As expected, fighting was the best way to level up.

Just as James pondered his options, a subtle ripple stirred the air. Instantly, Transparent World activated.

Two presences.

To be precise—one cursed aura and one… human?

Fushiguro Shigeru. The man had no cursed energy at all and had mastered such extreme body control that his presence was virtually undetectable.

Even so, the Six Eyes and Transparent World could still locate him. That alone made him dangerous.

Outside the courtyard, Shigeru crouched quietly behind a wall. His instincts told him James was nearby—and so was something else worth investigating.

Meanwhile, hidden behind the rooftop eaves, Nosuo peered hungrily at the cursed fetus.

The aura was so immense that anyone with even a hint of spiritual sense could detect its location.

James, sensing both presences, slowly rose to his feet and pulled his sword free from the earth.

"James," Shigeru muttered from the shadows. He had been watching James from the start. His mission was clear—find the target, assess any weaknesses, and collect critical information.

Nosuo, on the other hand, felt the situation growing increasingly tense. If James was guarding the cursed fetus personally, getting close was almost impossible. Showing himself now might mean instant death.

Who makes the first move?

In the next second, James vanished.

What!?

Nosuo was immediately overwhelmed by a sense of impending doom. He dove and rolled away without hesitation.

BOOM!

The ground exploded, shaking violently as a shockwave tore through the courtyard. A cloud of dust and shattered wood filled the air.

James stood calmly, gazing at Nosuo, who was now climbing to his feet. His eyes narrowed slightly at the obvious stitch marks across her forehead.

Nosuo brushed off the dust and smirked.

"Well now, my friend over there," she called out loudly, "you can see the situation clearly. Why not step in and fight by my side? If I lose, he certainly won't let you go, either."

She was talking to Shigeru, though she couldn't sense him. Still, it was a calculated gamble—anyone arriving here was likely after James.

James's cold, ice-blue eyes turned toward the massive figure stepping out from behind the wall.

Fushiguro Shigeru had been discovered.

He knew Nosuo couldn't actually detect him—it was just a bluff. But James clearly had, which meant stealth was no longer an option.

In that case, brute force was the only solution.

Those eyes… so similar to the Six Eyes… Shigeru frowned. What a pain.

James now stood face-to-face with two of the most dangerous individuals alive.

Gojo Satoru's teacher had finally entered the battlefield.

Fushiguro Megumi's father…

That family dynamic was interesting. According to the "Jujutsu rule of screen time," the more often a character appeared, the more comedic they became. Ironically, the father was stronger than the son.

But what was Fushiguro Shigeru doing here?

Shouldn't he have been on the mission to assassinate the Astral Plasma?

Without him, could Gojo ever master the Reversal Technique?

The plotlines were starting to unravel. The graceful flutter of one butterfly's wings—perhaps a Kochou—was stirring a storm across the entire world.

James raised an eyebrow. "How about the two of you fight each other? I could use some entertainment."

Nosuo vs. Fushiguro Shigeru—now that was a matchup James had never imagined seeing. But it could be fun to watch.

Neither responded.

James sighed and slowly raised a single finger.

"Fine then. Come at me together."
