Chapter 72 - Chapter 72: New King of Curses!

Walking the streets of Fukuoka City, James had just finished dealing with several nearby Jujutsu master families. He suspected they had sensed what was coming—most of their members had already fled.

But…

There hadn't been enough time to retrieve all the information from these families. Only then did James understand why they were so willing to fight him to the death.

The ice lotus in his eye rotated slowly as he looked up at the enormous shadow in the sky above Fukuoka City—a presence invisible to ordinary people. It loomed, blocking out the sun, and gradually spread, casting a veil over the entire city.

---

On a sunny beach, Gojo Satoru lay back in a colorful shirt, enjoying the sunlight. Suddenly, a shadow blocked his sun. He opened his eyes to find a pair of legs standing in front of him.

Xia Youjie threw several sheets of paper at him without a word, signaling him to read.

Gojo pulled down his sunglasses. His pale blue eyes scanned the pages quickly.

"As expected of James. He never fails to create a sensation."

Gojo tossed the papers aside and sat up abruptly, his gaze shifting toward Tenriko, who was happily playing in the water nearby.

"What worries me," he muttered, "is whether he'll become a Curse User in the end and just do whatever he pleases."

Xia Youjie shared that concern. The news was too overwhelming—one man had killed dozens of Jujutsu masters and wiped out over a dozen prestigious families. It was a massacre.

"Isn't this a sign of bloodlust?" he asked quietly.

"You overthink everything," Gojo waved his hand dismissively. "It's fine. We're here, aren't we? If something does go wrong… we'll deal with it."

Despite his relaxed demeanor, Gojo's sunglasses couldn't fully hide the calculating glint in his eyes. No one could guess what he was really thinking.

"Oh, and by the way," Xia Youjie added, "something strange is going on in Kyushu. The higher-ups warned us not to go near it."

Gojo chuckled. "If anything happens, James will handle it. He's strong—stronger than most."

That truth had already spread like wildfire across the Jujutsu world. And the proof? The lives of dozens of slain masters.

---

Inside her lab, Ieiri Shōko crumpled up a newspaper and tossed it in the trash.

"Isn't it obvious he's strong?" she muttered. "But still… I'm not sure if what I did was right or wrong."

Elsewhere, in a dimly lit classroom, Yaga Masamichi paused as he adjusted a cursed bear skeleton. He sighed.

"Looks like we won't be claiming that bounty after all."

Mei Mei had her own view. "What a waste," she said. "But I never bet against odds like that anyway."

In a quiet corner, Nanami Kento and Haibara Kuma sat reading the reports.

"Senior James is incredible," Haibara said in awe.

"As we expected," Nanami added. "He taught us well."

The Jujutsu world had gained another special-grade sorcerer. But everyone knew—that was merely a title. It wasn't James's limit.

The Jujutsu masters who were previously headed to Kyushu to claim his bounty were now quietly turning back. Those who had already arrived had simply vanished.

---

Outside Kyushu Island, a large man with jet-black hair sat on a massive boulder, holding James's bounty notice in his hand.

His eyes were chillingly blank—cold and indifferent, as though he had long ceased caring about anything.

Even Fushiguro, the tyrant of heaven, wasn't this emotionless.

He wiped dew off the paper and took out his flip phone to check his messages.

"This deal's a bust," he muttered.

Jiner had taken on two contracts: one from the Panxing Sect, the other of his own choosing.

The first mission was to kill Tengen Riko and deliver her corpse. The reward was hefty.

The second was James's bounty. Completing that mission would yield an even greater prize.

But neither job was simple.

The first involved dealing with two special-grade Jujutsu sorcerers—one of them being the infamous Six Eyes user with the Limitless Technique.

The second involved facing James, who had destroyed every Jujutsu clan in Kyushu and left no information behind. Jiner knew nothing concrete about his powers.

Originally, Jiner had only accepted the first mission. But when Gojo and the others delayed their departure for Hongxing Palace, he decided to take the second job as well.

He hadn't expected that, by the time he arrived, James would already be tearing through Kyushu like a force of nature.

If he continued, he'd likely lose money. If he gave up, the loss would still be great.

But there's a saying: Once you've come this far and invested so much, turning back with nothing is worse.

At the very least, if he could gather enough intel on James, he might be able to sell it for profit.

Decision made, Jiner stood and resumed his journey. A few kilometers east, another figure was slowly heading toward Fukuoka City—a woman with a beautiful face but a frightening stitched scar across her forehead.

Sensing something, Jiner quickened his pace, crossing the border of Kyushu Island in no time.

Unbeknownst to the outside world, Fukuoka City had become a terrifying convergence point.

And something far worse was awakening...

---

Long ago, the Jujutsu clans on Kyushu Island had dreamed of revolution. They wanted to tear down the old regime, kill off the incompetent higher-ups, and take control of the Jujutsu world themselves.

So, they hatched a plan.

They began spreading terrifying ghost stories across the island, instilling fear in the hearts of countless people. The goal? To focus all that fear and negative energy into creating a powerful Cursed Spirit.

Humans have limits. Most people simply don't have the potential to become elite Jujutsu masters.

But Cursed Spirits are different.

With enough hatred and fear, they can grow stronger quickly.

And so, the Cursed Fetus was born. But fearing an unstable foundation, the clans decided to slow its development.

Decades passed. Eventually, they believed the Cursed Spirit was ready.

Then disaster struck.

The spirit's energy began to decline rapidly. No matter what the clans tried, nothing worked. Their decades of cultivation began to crumble before their eyes.

Then came the year 2005.

That year, the situation suddenly reversed. The aura of the Cursed Fetus surged again, growing day by day. The clans were shocked, caught between fear and hope.

But by then, they had grown too complacent—accustomed to peace, wealth, and influence. They had abandoned their revolutionary dreams. They no longer wanted the power they once sought.

Still, it was too late. The Cursed Spirit had broken free of their control.

No clan on Kyushu could subdue it. In desperation, they turned to ancient, ancestral rituals to try and tame the monster.

Even if the odds were slim.

So, they united and sealed off Kyushu Island. No outsiders were allowed in—not even the Jujutsu sorcerers chasing James's bounty. Any who tried were eliminated in secret.

No one was allowed to enter Fukuoka City. No one could risk discovering the truth.

This stalemate dragged on…

Until one day, a man on an electric scooter crossed the border of Kyushu Island.

---

"So… James. Did you really defeat the Cursed Fetus?"

Those were the final words in a diary found on the body of an old sorcerer who practiced the Steel Wire Technique. The ink was still fresh.

James closed the book and looked up at the shadow stretching across the sky outside his window.

Maybe...

Just maybe...

A new King of Curses was about to be born.
