Chapter 26 - Chapter 25: joined rehearsals.

Ben and Mark sat across each other in class, exchanging amused glances as they recalled the previous day's events. Ben leaned in, a hint of a smile on his face.

"Hey, I'm still laughing about yesterday," Ben said, his voice barely above a whisper. "We totally zonked out on that bed of yours."

Mark chuckled, shaking his head. "I know, right? I had no idea we'd fall asleep like that. What time did we wake up?"

Ben checked his phone. "I think it was around 11am. We totally lost track of time."

Mark's eyes widened. "No way! I'm surprised we didn't get questions of today's class."

Their conversation was interrupted by the professor, who began lecturing on the day's topic. Ben and Mark settled in, taking notes and occasionally exchanging whispered comments.

As the class progressed, Ben couldn't help but steal glances at Mark, who was intently focused on the lecture. He felt a flutter in his chest, enjoying the quiet moments they shared together.

When the class ended, Ben turned to Mark. "Hey, wanna grab lunch together? I'm starving."

Mark smiled, gathering his belongings. "Definitely. Let's go."

As they walked out of the classroom, Ben felt a sense of excitement, looking forward to spending more time with Mark. Little did they know, their late-night escapade was only the beginning of their adventures together.

Ben and Mark walked into the bustling university cafeteria, the aroma of various cuisines filling the air. They joined the line, scanning the options before deciding on their meals. Ben opted for a chicken sandwich and salad, while Mark chose a hearty bowl of pasta.

As they paid for their food, Ben nodded towards a quiet corner of the cafeteria. "Let's grab that table by the window. It's a bit more chill."

Mark followed Ben's gaze and nodded in agreement. They made their way to the table, sliding into the seats across from each other. The sunlight streaming through the window highlighted the features of their faces as they began to eat.

Ben took a bite of his sandwich, savoring the flavors. "Mmm, this is actually pretty good."

Mark twirled his pasta around his fork. "Yeah, I know, right? I'm surprised by how much I like the pasta here."

As they ate, they chatted about their classes, sharing stories about their professors and coursework. Their conversation flowed easily, and they found themselves laughing and joking together.

Ben noticed the way Mark's eyes crinkled at the corners when he smiled, and he felt a warmth in his chest. He looked away, focusing on his food, but couldn't help sneaking glances at Mark throughout their meal.

As they finished their lunch, Ben leaned back in his chair, feeling content. "Thanks for grabbing lunch with me, Mark. It's always been fun eating with you."

Mark smiled, gathering his trash. "No problem, Ben. I'm glad we could hang out. Maybe we can study together later this week?"

Ben nodded enthusiastically. "Definitely. I'll send you a text later, and we can figure out a time that works for both of us so we could practice the formulas and the equations."

With their trash disposed of, they walked out of the cafeteria together, enjoying the warm sunshine and each other's company.

Ben and Mark walked to the university library, intent on borrowing the notes and materials from the classes they had missed the previous day. As they strolled through the quiet halls, they chatted about their plans for the rest of the day.

"I'm so glad we decided to catch up on our notes," Ben said, nodding towards the library entrance. "I don't want to fall behind in any of my classes."

Mark nodded in agreement. "Definitely. Let's see if anyone took good notes yesterday. Maybe we can even study together later and go over the material."

Upon entering the library, they made their way to the reserve section, where they inquired about borrowing the notes from the previous day's classes. After checking with the librarian, they were able to access the materials they needed.

As they sat down at a table, Ben pulled out his notebook and began to compare his notes to the ones they had borrowed. "Okay, so it looks like we missed a lecture on...," he said, scanning the notes.

Mark leaned in, his eyes scanning the pages. "Yeah, and it looks like the professor covered some important topics. Let's make sure to update our notes and study them thoroughly."

Together, they worked on updating their notes, asking each other questions and clarifying any points they didn't understand. The quiet atmosphere of the library provided a conducive environment for focused studying.

As they worked, Ben couldn't help but appreciate the way Mark's eyes lit up when he grasped a complex concept. He felt a sense of camaraderie with Mark, enjoying the collaborative effort of catching up on their studies.

After a productive study session, they packed up their belongings, feeling more confident about their grasp of the material. "Thanks for helping me catch up, Mark," Ben said, smiling.

Mark smiled back. "No problem, Ben I also benefited from you too. Let's do it again soon – maybe before our next exams."

Ben nodded, already looking forward to their next study session together.

Ben's phone buzzed with an instant message from Ms. Thompson. He glanced at the screen, his eyes widening as he read the urgent message.

"Mark, it's Ms. Thompson," Ben said, showing Mark his phone. "She's messaging all members of the drama committee and crew to get to the auditorium ASAP. Apparently, the other university drama crew is here."

Mark's eyes lit up with excitement as he checked his phone for the message. "Whoa, they came today? I totally drilled. Let's go!"

Ben quickly typed out a response to Ms. Thompson, confirming they'd be there soon. As they hastily gathered their belongings, Mark grinned.

"This is going to be epic! Let's get moving, we don't want to miss anything."

Ben chuckled, feeling the same excitement. "Yeah, and we don't want to keep Ms. Thompson waiting. She's already stressed enough with the event coming up."

The two of them rushed out of the library, hurrying towards the auditorium. As they walked, they speculated about the visiting drama crew and what the event might entail.

"I heard they're really good," Mark said. "Maybe we can pick up some tips for our own production."

Ben nodded enthusiastically. "Definitely. This could be a great opportunity for us to learn and get inspired."

As they approached the auditorium, they could hear the buzz of activity and chatter. Ben and Mark exchanged a look, both of them eager to dive into the drama event and see what the day had in store.

Ben and Mark quickly found seats in the auditorium, their eyes scanning the room as they settled in. Ms. Thompson stood at the front, surveying the group before beginning to speak.

"Alright, everyone, let's get started," Ms. Thompson said, her voice carrying across the room. "I'm sure you're all aware that we're hosting a collaboration with the drama crew from the other university. They're here to share their expertise and work with us on a joint project."

The room erupted into murmurs of excitement and anticipation. Ms. Thompson smiled, nodding towards the doorway.

"Without further ado, I'd like to introduce Anthony, the coordinator from the other university's drama crew. Anthony, please come forward."

Anthony, a tall, charismatic figure with a warm smile, walked into the room, shaking hands with Ms. Thompson. He took the microphone from her and began to greet the group.

"Hello, everyone! It's great to be here, and I'm looking forward to working with all of you. We're excited to share our experiences and learn from each other."

As Anthony spoke, Ben leaned over to Mark and whispered, "He seems really cool. I hope we get to learn some new things from them."

Mark nodded in agreement, his eyes fixed on Anthony. "Definitely. I'm excited to see what they have planned."

The room fell silent as Anthony continued to speak, outlining the plans for the collaboration and the projects they would be working on together. Ben and Mark listened intently, their enthusiasm growing as they realized the potential for creative growth and new experiences.

Anthony concluded his speech, his words met with nods of agreement and enthusiasm from the group. "So, let's get down to business," he said with a smile. "We came here to see who we're working with, and to agree on a specific date for our first rehearsal together."

He glanced at Ms. Thompson, who nodded in agreement. "We'll be working on a joint production, and we want to make sure everyone is on the same page. Let's discuss the logistics and finalize the details."

The room erupted into a flurry of discussion and questions, with members from both universities exchanging ideas and suggestions. Ben and Mark joined in, asking questions and sharing their thoughts on the project.

As the discussion progressed, Anthony and Ms. Thompson worked together to finalize the details, including the date and time of the first rehearsal. After some deliberation, they agreed on a date and time that worked for everyone.

"Alright, it's settled then," Anthony said, smiling. "Our first rehearsal will be next Saturday at 2 pm. Let's make sure to bring our A-game and work together to create something amazing."

The room filled with excitement and anticipation as the group began to disperse, all eager to start working on the joint production. Ben turned to Mark, grinning.

"Can't wait to get started on this project. It's going to be epic!"

Mark nodded in agreement, already thinking about the possibilities. "Definitely. Let's make sure to be prepared and bring our best to the rehearsal."

As Anthony and his crew were making their way out of the auditorium, he caught sight of Ben sitting in the crowd, still engrossed in conversation with Mark. But what caught his attention was Ben's wonderful smile and face, radiant with enthusiasm and excitement.

Anthony couldn't help but notice the way Ben's eyes sparkled when he laughed, or the way his smile lit up his entire face. He felt a sudden pause, his footsteps slowing as he took in the sight of Ben's joyful expression.

For a moment, Anthony forgot about his crew and the plans they had discussed, his gaze fixed on Ben's captivating smile. He felt drawn to the warmth and energy that emanated from Ben, and he couldn't help but wonder what it would be like to see that smile more often.

As he stood there, frozen in admiration, Anthony's crew members began to notice his distraction. They slowed down, following his gaze to see what had caught his attention. But Anthony didn't notice; he was too caught up in the sight of Ben's radiant smile.

One of Anthony's crew members, noticing his distraction, approached him with a concerned expression. "Hey, Anthony, everything okay?" she asked, her voice low and inquiring.

Anthony quickly snapped out of his reverie, turning to face his crew member with a forced smile. "Yeah, everything's fine. Let's go," he said, his tone a bit brusquer than usual.

The crew member raised an eyebrow, sensing that something was off, but she didn't press the issue. Instead, she nodded and fell into step beside Anthony as they continued towards the exit.

As they walked, Anthony couldn't shake off the feeling that he'd been caught off guard. He quickened his pace, his mind still lingering on the image of Ben's smile. He pushed the thought aside, focusing on the task at hand – working with the other university's drama crew to create an unforgettable production.

The group exited the auditorium, chatting and laughing as they made their way out into the bright sunlight. Anthony joined in, playing the role of the confident and charismatic leader, but his mind kept wandering back to the captivating smile he'd seen just moments before.

Ben and Mark walked out of the auditorium, their conversation still flowing as they discussed the meeting they'd just attended. As they strolled through the hallway, they fell into a comfortable rhythm, their hands brushing together before intertwining in a gentle hold.

Their fingers touched, and Ben felt a spark of electricity run through his body. He glanced over at Mark, who was smiling at him, and Ben's heart skipped a beat. They'd held hands before, but this time felt different, more significant.

As they walked, they continued to talk about the joint production, their voices filled with excitement and anticipation. Ben couldn't help but notice how it stills natural it felt to have Mark's hand in his. He squeezed it gently, feeling a sense of connection and camaraderie.

Mark, sensing Ben's gaze, turned to him and smiled. "What?" he asked, his eyes sparkling with amusement.

Ben smiled back, feeling a flutter in his chest. "Just happy to be working on this project with you," he said, his voice sincere.

Mark's smile grew wider, and he squeezed Ben's hand in response. "Me too," he said, his voice filled with warmth.

As they continued down the hallway, Ben and Mark walked hand in hand, their conversation flowing easily, their connection growing stronger with every step.

Ben and Mark walked to Miss Rena's office, their footsteps in sync as they chatted about their recent meeting with the drama crew. As they approached the office, they quickened their pace, eager to submit their assignment and get it out of the way.

"Hey, I'm glad we're getting this done early," Mark said, holding up their joint assignment on ancient science and languages. "I don't want to have to worry about it during rehearsals."

Ben nodded in agreement. "Definitely. Let's just get it submitted and breathe a sigh of relief."

They reached Miss Rena's office and knocked on the door. "Come in!" her voice called out from inside.

Ben and Mark exchanged a smile and entered the office. Miss Rena looked up from her desk, a warm smile on her face. "Ah, Ben and Mark! What brings you here today?"

"We wanted to submit our assignment on ancient science and languages," Ben explained, holding out their work. "We know it's due later, but with the rehearsals starting soon, we wanted to get it out of the way."

Miss Rena's eyes lit up with appreciation. "That's very responsible of you both. Thank you for submitting it early. I'll make sure to review it and give you feedback soon."

Ben and Mark smiled, feeling a sense of relief wash over them. They'd gotten the assignment out of the way, and now they could focus on the rehearsals and the joint production.

As Ben and Mark were about to leave Miss Rena's office, she called out to Mark. "Mark, could you stay back for a minute? I just need to discuss something with you about your assignment."

Mark nodded and turned to Ben. "Hey, I'll be right back. Just wait for me at the class entrance, okay? I'll be there in time for our next class."

Ben smiled and nodded, understanding. "Alright, I'll wait for you there. Take your time."

Mark smiled back and watched as Ben left the office. He turned his attention back to Miss Rena, who was waiting to discuss the finer points of their assignment.

"What did you want to talk to me about, Miss Rena?" Mark asked, taking a seat in front of her desk.

Miss Rena leaned forward, a thoughtful expression on her face. "I just wanted to commend you both on your excellent work. Your research on ancient science and languages was impressive, and I appreciate the effort you put into it."

Miss Rena's expression turned serious, and she leaned forward, her voice taking on a more personal tone. "Mark, that's not why I told you to stay behind. There's something else I wanted to talk to you about."

Mark's curiosity was piqued, and he leaned forward, his eyes locked on Miss Rena's. "What is it, Miss Rena?"

Miss Rena's gaze was piercing, but her tone was gentle. "What's going on with you and Ben lately? You two seem more than just friends now. To me, it looks like you're more than just classmates or friends. You're...lovers, aren't you?"

Mark's eyes widened slightly, taken aback by the directness of the question. He felt a flush rise to his cheeks, but he tried to maintain his composure. "Miss Rena, I...uh...I don't know what you're talking about," he stammered, trying to play it cool.

But Miss Rena's knowing gaze told him she wasn't buying it. She smiled warmly, her expression softening. "Mark, I'm not judging you. I just want to make sure you're both okay. You're two of my brightest students, and I care about you both."

Mark took a deep breath and decided to open up to Miss Rena. "Okay, Miss Rena, I'll be honest with you. Ben and I...we're together. We're in a relationship."

Miss Rena nodded, her expression understanding. "I kind of figured as much. But what's interesting is that you seemed hesitant to admit it. Why's that?"

Mark smiled wryly. "To be honest, we didn't want the lecturers to know. But it's not like it's a secret among the students. Everyone knows about us. We've been pretty open about it with our friends."

Miss Rena raised an eyebrow. "Everyone knows, but not the lecturers? That's interesting. But what about your families? How do they feel about your relationship?"

Mark's expression softened. "Actually, my parents know about Ben and our relationship. They're really cool with it. And Ben's eldest sister and her family know about me too. They're all very supportive."

Miss Rena smiled, looking pleased. "That's wonderful to hear. It's great that you both have such understanding families. I'm glad you felt comfortable enough to be honest with me, Mark."

Miss Rena's expression turned warm and gentle. "That's all I wanted to ask about, Mark. You can go now. Don't keep Ben waiting."

As Mark stood up to leave, Miss Rena softly laughed, a warm and knowing sound. Mark couldn't help but smile, feeling a sense of relief and gratitude towards her.

"Thank you, Miss Rena," Mark said, his voice sincere. "I appreciate your understanding."

Miss Rena smiled and nodded. "You're welcome, Mark. Go on, I'll see you both in class."

Mark nodded and left the office, feeling a sense of freedom and happiness. He walked out to the class entrance, where Ben was waiting for him, looking relaxed and happy.

"Hey, sorry about that," Mark said, falling into step beside Ben. "What did Miss Rena want?"

Ben raised an eyebrow. "You didn't tell me?"

Mark grinned. "Let's just say it's between me and Miss Rena for now."

Ben chuckled and wrapped his arm around Mark's shoulders. "Okay, I won't pry. Let's just get to class."

Mark looked at Ben with a curious expression. "Hey, why didn't you wait for me at the class entrance like I asked? You ended up waiting here instead."

Ben smiled and leaned in, his voice taking on a gentle tone. "I felt like waiting here for you, okay? I didn't feel like walking all the way to the entrance. Besides, I like waiting for you, wherever it might be."

Mark's expression softened, and he felt a warmth in his chest. "Aww, that's sweet," he said, his voice filled with affection.

Ben chuckled and pulled Mark closer, his eyes sparkling with amusement. "I'm just happy to see you, that's all."

Mark smiled and wrapped his arms around Ben, feeling happy and content in his arms. "I'm happy to see you too," he said, his voice muffled against Ben's shoulder.

Miss Rena stood at the door of her office, watching Mark and Ben as they walked hand in hand, their faces lit up with happiness. She couldn't help but smile as she observed the affectionate display.

"Ah, their relationship with each other is a unique one," she said to herself, her voice barely above a whisper. "Look at Ben, who was the quiet person, now he is like a bird flying so high with its kind."

As she watched them, Miss Rena's expression turned thoughtful, her eyes filled with a mix of warmth and concern. "I wish nothing bad will happen to their relationship," she said, her voice filled with sincerity. "They deserve to be happy, to love and be loved in return."

With a gentle sigh, Miss Rena stepped back into her office, her mind still on the young couple. She hoped that Mark and Ben would be able to navigate the challenges that came with their relationship, and that their love for each other would continue to grow stronger with each passing day.

But what they don't know was that the joined rehearsal the duo were looking forward to was coming with another challenge to their relationship.

Cause deep in the heart of another he has completely fallen in love with Ben at first sight.
