Sometime later, the train is parked outside as the survivors rest. Margaret patches up Caleb's wound while Kyle is looking out into the wasteland with his binoculars.
Kyle: Why the quiet?
Rocky: Well, we're at crossroads, dude.
Cassandra: Plus, we're all wondering; "where to go? What do we do?"
Kyle: More or less from what I was expecting, but you all get the picture.
Sarah, Jenny and Shawn enter the bridge of the train.
Kyle: Anything?
Sarah: Nothing, but waste up ahead. Shawn and Jenny have studied the railroad.
James: And?
Jenny: Well, it looks like the railroad we're on is set to travel all across the post-apocalyptic wasteland of America.
Marcus: No shit.
Margaret: So, what? We just travel all across America until we find somewhere to start over? Is that seriously the best plan, Kyle?
Kyle: No....but it's the only option we got; most of the cities have been destroyed by the nuclear blasts, the rest of the country is probably under enemy territory. Y'all remember that when we took down Kronos, the gangs took over. The really bad ones.
James: I'm still trying to wonder how the hell the Takers used a military grade jammer to block out any communication.
Cassandra: They must've gotten that from Kronos....it's the only option that makes sense....I mean, all their technology and all their advanced weapons, gear....it's all out in the wasteland....who knows who else got their hands on that gear? Blood Hogs? Bandits? Raiders?
Caleb: Maybe we should've kept some of that gear for ourselves.....
Kyle: Yeah, I thought I was giving the people of the wasteland a chance, but somehow I made the gangs more powerful with Kronos shit.....fuck...
Joseph: Kyle, we can't go back to Taker city....maybe we should advance and move on.
Kyle: We could....
Kyle turns to James.
Kyle: Hey, James...you were trying to find that signal. So, check the airwaves. We should be our of the jamming range by now, so give it your best try.
James gets on the radio and begins to turn the dial.
Shawn: Well, we definitely can't go back to Taker city. That is not an option.
Joseph: Maybe we could negotiate with the Takers....
Kyle: How, Joseph? We shut down a jamming station, shot up their boys, killed their leader and blew up a train escaping the city. There's no way back....which means we have to consider moving on...
As the survivors are speaking, James continues turning the dial, eventually reaching a frequency where a voice is heard.
Radio: Attention! Attention! This is the Restoration Committee speaking from the Noah's Ark base!
James: Kyle! I got something!
Kyle turns to the radio and listens in. Kyle looks at Shawn, before Shawn addresses the other survivors.
Shawn: Guys! Quiet! Listen!
The survivors listen to the radio.
Radio: Everyone who can hear me, everyone who is still alive! We are rebuilding the country peace, by peace! Rally point location is code 1988-86, area 19-6. Come to the Sanctuary! I repeat, the Sanctuary.
Shawn takes the paper map and looks it over, putting it below the driver's helm.
Jenny: All right.
Kyle joins Shawn.
Kyle: Where is it?
Shawn pinpoints the map.
Shawn: Got it! So, it is somewhere around here...
Jenny: the Glen Canyon Dam in Colorado!
Kyle: So the route should go...like this.
James: This is it! If they're rebuilding, guys, we should take it! This is our goal!
Cassandra: So...is this what you were hoping for, James?
James: Yeah, people! Good people! Rebuilding! Restoring the world back to what it was before any of us here were born! We might never have to kill anyone to rebuild again! Everything is going to change! Everything! Don't you guys see that?! A new life is going to start for all the survivors of the apocalypse!
Shawn: I don't know, man.
James: What do you mean, you don't know?
Jenny: It sounds too easy. Like really "way too easy".
Joseph: I mean, I support it. You gotta have a little faith in your brother's idea for this, Shawn.
Shawn: I have faith, but I'm also a realist.
Caleb: Well, I'm in, too....especially if this rebuilding place has anything like say single women.
The survivors laugh while Abigail rolls her eyes.
Kyle: Well, it's considered for now....James, you came through and I think this calls for....
Kyle turns to Rocky.
Kyle: Rocky?
Rocky raises an eyebrow.
Rocky: What?
Kyle: Bring it out!
Rocky: Bring what out?
Kyle: That thing that's been slushing in your canteen for a few months now.
Rocky's eyes widen.
Rocky: Oh, that! Just a moment...I thought my ears were fucking with me!
Rocky pours out some alcohol from his canteen into separate coffee cups for each and every survivor.
Kyle: It's not a short trip to where we're going and we're going to be on this train for a while...
Shawn: So, why don't make ourselves at home, I guess....let's name the fucking train!
Jenny: It's about damn time!
Caleb: How about we call her the Desipich?
Kyle: Fuck no.
The survivors laugh.
Joseph: I got it. Bob!
Sarah: Oh, come on!
James: How about the Myrmidon?
Marcus: The what?
James: The Myrmidon? The Greek Army that was lead by Achilles to take over Troy.
The survivors look amongst each other.
Cassandra: Not a bad name.
Caleb: Not bad!
Margaret: I like it!
Abigail: A beautiful name....
Kyle: Looks like it's decided....
The survivors raise their glasses and toast
Kyle: Let's toast to the Myrmidon!
Survivors: To the Myrmidon!
Cassandra: Hey, Kyle, we should take a look at that map!
Kyle: All right, we had a round, that should be enough....James, full steam ahead!
James: Got it!
James walks up to the front of the train controls and pulls on the brakes.
James: Full steam ahead!
The train begins to move forward as the survivors disperse into different groups.
Marcus: I'm gonna go get some of that fresh air, I guess....
Rocky: I'm gonna join you there, brother.
Kyle, Shawn, Sarah and Rachel look over the map.
Sarah: Wow, that's some distance....
Rachel: Yeah, I wonder how long it's going to take us...
Kyle, Shawn, Sarah and Rachel disperse, before Sarah sits down with Caleb.
Sarah: Caleb....how are you feeling?
Caleb: Agh.....like shit.....I got a bullet from one ugly motherfucker and now I'm down for the count....again.....seem to be taking wounds for us a lot.
Sarah: Hey, that's not fair. We've all taken bad wounds.
Caleb: Yeah, well at least I now have an attractive scar...made for that one woman meant for me.
Sarah: You're starting to have the feeling you'll find the one out here?
Caleb: Well, yeah....I mean, hell I've been lucky as far as not getting killed. Maybe we'll get lucky during our journey and find a good community that has beautiful women. I mean, we have beautiful women in our group, but they're all taken. You're with Kyle, James has Cassandra, Shawn has Jenny and Margaret has Joseph.
Sarah: Well, you remember that Kyle and I are just now getting back into the habit of being a married couple after two years of being divorced. Plus, Marcus...
Caleb: Yeah....I heard he lost Vivian during the hydroelectrical fight.
Sarah: It's gotta be hard for him.
Caleb: Yeah....well, maybe once we reach a good community or this Glen Canyon Dam place. We'll have some luck.
At the front of the train, Joseph and Margaret are looking out, holding hands.
Margaret: Okay...uh...wet socks.
Joseph: Easy. Cold feet.
Margaret: Bee sting.
Joseph: A bee sting is a reminder you're still breathing.
Margaret: Bad people or infected around the corner.
Joseph: Never a dull moment in the wasteland.
Margaret: The hot sun beating down on you.
Joseph: Seriously? Free tan.
Margaret laughs.
Joseph: I said it and I meant it and I'm sticking to it.
Margaret bites her lip.
Margaret: Public.
Joseph: Captive audience.
Joseph then kisses Margaret.
Margaret: Mmm....you're getting better at that, you know?
Kyle walks in and clears his throat, causing the two to turn to him.
Joseph: Shit....
Margaret: Oh! Hey, Kyle. What's up?
Kyle: Nothing....just wanting to get some fresh air. Hope I'm not interrupting something.
Margaret: No. No.....uh....I'm gonna go chat with Marcus.
Margaret leaves as Kyle joins Joseph as he looks out at the wasteland in front of him.
Kyle: So, what do you think?
Joseph: I think.....James has a good plan and this Glen Canyon Dam community that's rebuilding. It sounds legit.....sounds like a fresh start. We push ourselves to let things go then we let more hurt go, more pain go and soon we have nothing left to gain. Things we can't hold onto if we tried. This Glen Canyon Dam's gonna happen, Kyle.
Kyle: I don't know.
Joseph: It's cool you don't know....but you've been out there in the world....you were a soldier....you've survived a lot...we're gonna get there and see that even though we've suffered a lot, God always finds a way to bring back the good in things. You're gonna find yourself in a place where it was before some of us were born....you let yourself get accustomed to the apocalypse along the way, it'll be the same for you.
Kyle: It's good you're religious, cause I used to be. Was raised in a Christian orphanage. Tried to live by their word, but....the apocalypse has taken too much from me....
Joseph: I know...it's taken a lot from all of us....but you need let that go, cause the real world is coming.
Kyle scoffs.
Kyle: This is the real world we live in, Joseph.
Joseph: This? Nah. This is just a nightmare and this is purgatory, but through God, you will find salvation.....God brought Sarah back into your life after being separated from you for a year....maybe he'll give you another clean slate to start a family....try again....being anew...
On the side of the church, Shawn, Rocky and Marcus are having a cigarette together.
Marcus: You gotta admit. Your brother's came through for us....after we all doubted him.
Shawn: Yeah....I still don't buy it, though....I mean, we've never came across a place that's promised false hope, but...still....Kronos did and look what happened.
Marcus nods.
Marcus: I get it....
Shawn sighs.
Shawn: I get it, though....why you don't talk about Vivian....or Selene....but we get another chance, Marcus...all of us together... I mean, there's shit that we should've died from a long fucking time ago, but we're still alive.
Marcus scoffs.
Marcus: Sounds like you're starting to believe your brother. Cause of Jenny, I assume.
Shawn: It is cause of Jenny and I want better for both of us, but...I still think it's a bad plan, but.....it's the best plan we got.
Rocky: I don't know what to say, brothers....but I think I'm tired of shitting in a hole every now and then....I'd just love my own toilet to crap in, you know? And if this plan James has gets us that toilet, I'm on board.
Shawn and Marcus give a disgusted but understanding look. Rocky tosses his cigarette away.
Rocky: I'm gonna go take a piss.
Rocky walks back into the train.
Marcus: Is he always like that?
Shawn: More or less.
On the back of the train, Abigail is sitting, looking out before Rachel joins her.
Rachel: What are you thinking about?
Abigail: Just this place....that James is talking about....could be a good place for a fresh start....for me in particular.
Rachel: Both of us.
Abigail: Not you....Rachel, I've ran with people who killed tortured, raped and killed by innocent people.....I just definitely need this fresh start....
Rachel: It's still getting to you, isn't you?
Abigail: Of course it is, Rachel.....my people were murderers....I was there when Lynn butchered Maya....you've seen the way that Cassandra looks at me.
Rachel: Well, you've seen my baggage.....my Dad was a bastard.....he beat me.....almost killed me and I killed him.....you're with us....you're our people now, Abigail.
Abigail looks at Rachel and smiles.
Abigail: Thanks, Rachel.
James is driving the train just as Cassandra walks up and takes James' hand.
James: So....
Cassandra sighs.
Cassandra: You were right and I was wrong.
James: That's not what I want to hear...
Cassandra: But it's true, James. I never believed you and I'm sorry.....also, I'm sorry about the way I've been acting...it's just....
James: I know.....I get why you killed Lynn.....I wanted to kill her, too.....I wanted her dead after what she did....I get Kyle killed her brother....but she killed father and took control of his gang all for revenge....
Cassandra: I just needed to know that Lynn was dead....It didn't feel good, James.
James: Killing someone in a horrific manner....it never feels good.
Cassandra: When I was hacking her, my mind went straight back to when she was cutting my sister's head off....
James nods.
James: Well....maybe when we get to where we're going, we can start a new...we get to try.....we get a chance.
Cassandra smiles.
Cassandra: You're the only family I have left.
James: I know....
James leans in and kisses Cassandra passionately.
Cassandra: Shouldn't you be focusing on driving the train?
James: It's a straight road ahead....I think we'll be fine.
Cassandra: Okay, but if we crash, I'm blaming you.
