The Shatter Point
That night, back home, Daniel didn't wait for questions.
"I didn't invite Ijeoma, my mother did, she's trying to prove something."
Favour stared at him. "And you just let her?"
"I couldn't stop it."
She looked away, so now what? I'm the joke?
"No," Daniel said quietly, but you have to understand my family is watching, they see what I'm afraid to admit."
Favour's voice broke. "That I'm not good enough?"
"That you lied."
She stood up, suddenly angry. "So what, Daniel? You want a maid or a wife?"
"I wanted the truth."
Silence.
And then he said something that hit her like ice: "Maybe we rushed this."
That night, Favour didn't sleep,she sat in the dark kitchen, staring at a pot she couldn't use, in a home that no longer felt like hers.
And for the first time, she whispered what she had never dared to say.
"I made a mistake."
