Chapter 206: Defeating the Sky Overlord!
Author: Samsung Charmander
BOOM!!
Ancient Power erupted!!
*Kcha!*
In less than half a second, the sound of shattering glass rang out of thin air.
The cyan shield from Protect finally shattered, unable to withstand the overwhelming pressure. Alakazam's body was completely exposed. At this moment, it had no way to dodge and had to take the full force of this terrifying Ancient Power head-on.
Given how much of a glass cannon each Pokémon was, it was impossible for either to withstand this nigh-invincible impact alone!
BOOM!!
Aerodactyl's Ancient Power slammed into Alakazam's abdomen without any resistance. The immense force was unleashed wantonly, instantly caving in the latter's stomach. Its eyes nearly rolled back in their sockets.
"Alakazam, hold on!!!"
Gary's low shout was like a rejuvenating roar, snapping Alakazam back to its senses. Its super-high intelligence meant its willpower was also far from weak.
But it was still tottering on the brink under the attack, struggling on the verge of death.
"Chah-roooar!!"
The Aerodactyl, still in the middle of its Rock Impact, sneered in disdain. So what if its opponent had regained clarity for a moment? Its attack had only just begun. *Let's see how much longer you can hold out.*
At this moment, its entire body glowed fiery red. Its dark brown, stone-like body was stained a vicious crimson, a hue completely different from the power of flame, as if it were bathed in a sky full of blood-red light.
It was impossible for anyone to block its attack at its peak!
With the dual power boost from Hone Claws and Ancient Power, coupled with the explosive enhancement from its own prehistoric bloodline, this attack could be considered an all-out strike even back in the Prehistoric World!
As he felt the shift in the power of the Ancient Power, Gary's eyes were wide open, despite the rising smoke and dust that obscured his vision. He stared intently at the movements and auras of the two Pokémon at the point of impact, not even blinking as hot grit stung his eyes, not daring to take a single breath.
Suddenly, his eyes lit up as if he had discovered some critical point. He immediately roared:
"Now, Alakazam!"
"Wuhu!!"
Alakazam's silver spoon had already reached its limit, several cracks marring its surface. Its consciousness was on the verge of succumbing to darkness; it couldn't endure for even another second. It immediately activated its move.
*Swoosh!*
Amidst the malevolent light filling the air, its figure suddenly vanished. The space directly in the path of Aerodactyl's Rock Impact was now empty.
*Swoosh!*
The next second, a portly, purple-black figure appeared in that very spot, taking Alakazam's place to receive the unstoppable Ancient Power head-on.
Alakazam had used Ally Switch!
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!!
The immense force of the Ancient Power continued its rampage, slamming Gengar backward. Its purple-black form trembled as it was instantly thrown into an extremely weakened state, yet its blood-red eyes remained wide open, gritting its teeth and enduring!
One couldn't block it?
Then two would take half the damage each!
RUMBLE!!!
By combining their resilience, they finally withstood the seemingly unblockable attack.
Some readers might be asking: since it could use Ally Switch, why didn't Alakazam just use Teleport to escape? Was it deliberately screwing over Ash's Gengar?
"Gen...gar..."
The terrifying Ancient Power finally subsided. Gengar, still in mid-air, was frowning and panting, letting out a wail of pain.
From that single blow, it was already like a candle in the wind.
Likewise, the Alakazam behind it was also like a candle in the wind.
If either of them had endured it for a moment longer, they would have instantly lost their ability to battle.
But now, a dark orb of energy was churning in Gengar's chubby palms. The dense energy had already been concentrated to its absolute limit.
Keep in mind, it was Alakazam who had been tanking the attack, and Alakazam who had used Ally Switch. Gengar had been slacking off and staying hidden the whole time.
And thanks to Ally Switch, the distance between Gengar and Aerodactyl was now almost zero.
Ash finally bared his fangs. He pointed and shouted:
"Now, Gengar, use Hypnosis!!"
Exeggutor's Hypnosis hadn't worked before, so they would try this: a point-blank Hypnosis, fully charged with energy!!
"Gengar!!"
Before the smoke and dust had even settled, Gengar pushed out both palms. The black energy pulsed out from them as an orb, enveloping the target. Ripples of powerful, strange energy spread out, completely shrouding Aerodactyl before it had time to dodge.
"Chah... roar..."
Aerodactyl's eyes immediately narrowed, but it fought hard to remain conscious.
Even this long-planned, perfectly-timed Hypnosis didn't seem to be completely effective.
Just then, a hand landed on Ash's shoulder, and a low voice shouted.
"Alakazam, use Hypnosis too!!"
After using Ally Switch to swap places with Gengar, Alakazam had immediately stopped analyzing the situation, entrusting the flow of battle entirely to Gengar. From the rear, it had focused with all its being on concentrating its own Hypnosis.
This was trust. This was unspoken chemistry.
That's right. Gary had predicted it again—Ash's perfectly-timed Hypnosis might not be enough on its own.
So, they'd add another one!
Unnoticed, Alakazam had already moved to Gengar's side. Dragging its wound-covered body, it raised its nearly shattered silver spoon and pushed with its palm.
The next second, an equally dense wave of hypnotic power enveloped Aerodactyl.
*Bwo... bwo... bwo...*
A double, perfect Hypnosis!!
"Chah...ao..."
This time, an overwhelmingly powerful drowsiness washed over it. No matter how strong its willpower, the Aerodactyl finally succumbed. It closed its bloodshot eyes and, with a thud, collapsed onto the ground.
A smile tugged at the corner of Ash's mouth. He could feel that the ceiling above would be completely smashed through in less than a minute, but the earlier anxiety in his eyes was long gone.
He exchanged a smile with Gary, then slowly turned his gaze to their target.
The two commanded in unison:
"It's over! Use the final Dream Eater!!"
"Gengar!"
"Wuhu!"
The two Pokémon simultaneously unleashed their final power. Two dark phantoms resembling them emerged from their bodies and pounced on the sleeping Aerodactyl like a pair of gluttonous demons, letting out a terrifying sound.
A double ultimate move, Dream Eater!!
...
The sleeping Aerodactyl let out a muffled groan, its tightly shut eyes finally turning into spirals.
Sky Overlord? As long as the two of them worked together, they would've charged even if Champion Lance himself had shown up today!
Meanwhile, Gengar and Alakazam, who had just been like candles in the wind, were bathed in a green light. Their faces glowed with renewed vitality, restored to a healthy, green-blooded state.
"Gary, our teamwork just now was absolutely perfect!"
Watching the once-arrogant Aerodactyl collapse before him, Ash's face was flushed with excitement. He panted heavily, feeling an urge to roar at the sky.
The enemy's aura... it felt even stronger than when they faced Koga!
"Hmph. Ash, I'll temporarily acknowledge you as my rival. But only for today."
Gary was panting heavily, one hand on his aching back, but his eyes also held a hint of joy.
From pushing their limits to share the damage, to the double Hypnosis with Ally Switch for cover, to the double Dream Eater—none of it was coordinated with words. It was all done with just a look.
Perhaps there really is some kind of bond unique to Pallet Town...
The two looked at each other and smiled. They raised their hands and, with a *slap*, clasped them together. This was the first time since leaving Pallet Town that they had truly acknowledged each other's strength.
It was as if they had found their way back to their childhood, back to the carefree days of playing and roughhousing on the back mountain of Pallet Town... blowing up Tauros dung together.
