Chapter 3 - Kagerou's Kenjutsu

Kagerou spent a total of almost two hours creating his first vassal. He first vassal was an Uchiha clan member. Once Kagerou was done choosing the details of his first vassal and pressed [create] and a broad shouldered, 6 feet tall man appeared before him. He had long black hair that fell over his shoulders, and a cold expression settled on his face. A glowing red pattern adorned his irises, the mangekyou sharingan. Specifically, the same pattern that would form in Uchiha Obito's eyes in the future, for this man named Uchiha Kaizan wielded the very same ability as Obito would.

At the same time, Kagerou's System underwent a change.

It was a pretty simple panel. Kagerou figured that it would help him create his own faction in this world. His faction had no name yet, and Kagerou had no idea what to call it. He ultimately decided to hold off on naming it for now.

Kagerou then focused on Uchiha Kaizan's name, this caused a new panel to come up with detailed information about his new vassal.

[✧Faction Member Sub-Panel✧]

Name: Uchiha Kaizan

Age: 30

Identity: Chakrabound Vassal of Uchiha Kagerou

Traits: A tall, muscular man with long black hair and blue eyes. He has a scar on his left cheek and is very smart, gentle and charismatic.

Background: Kaizan Uchiha is the grandson of Uchiha Izuna, the younger brother of Madara Uchiha. He was orphaned at the age of five after his parents were killed by Amegakure shinobi during the Second Great Ninja War. With no remaining family to take him in, he spent a short time in an orphanage before moving into the house his parents had left behind. He has lived there alone ever since.

An only child, Kaizan grew up quietly and independently. His talent as a shinobi became clear early on, and by the age of twenty-three, he had risen to the rank of jōnin. Shortly after, he was recruited into the ANBU Black Ops, where he served for six years. During one of his missions, he suffered the loss of a close friend, a traumatic event that triggered the awakening of his Mangekyō Sharingan.

Since then, Kaizan has kept to himself, avoiding deep personal connections. He eventually left the ANBU after two separate incidents in which Danzō Shimura attempted to take his Mangekyō Sharingan. On both occasions, Danzo was protected from punishment by the Third Hokage, who chose not to pursue the matter further.

Currently, Kaizan does not align himself with either of the major factions within the Uchiha clan. He remains neutral, preferring to stay out of internal conflicts while continuing to live on the outskirts of both village and clan life.

Strength: Kage-level overall strength. He mainly uses fire and wind jutsus, and even has several S-rank fire jutsu in his arsenal.

Kekkai Genkai: Mangekyou Sharingan. Both eyes' ability – Kamui

Kagerou was very pleased with the panel in front of him. The system had allowed him adjust every single detail about Kaizan, from his background to what ability his mangekyou would have – the only restriction being that Kaizan had to be at the Kage level, not the super-kage or six-paths levels after.

This meant Kagerou could write whatever he wanted in the "background" section, and the system would make it seem like his vassal had always existed, and everyone would know him as he has a whole past in Konoha. But this was just according to the system.

Kagerou decided to hold off on creating his second vassal and just observe how well Kaizan's integration into the clan would be, and if anyone would question who he was.

-break-

After a while Kagerou decided to go out and buy some supplies like shurikens, kunai, chakra pills. He was completely out of supplies since his predecessor had just been living off of the support he received from his father for the past few months, so he didn't need to do any missions. Now that his brother had become patriarch and the financial support had stopped, Kagerou needed to earn his own money to get by.

He exited his house through the window like a true shinobi and jumped onto the road in front. He lived in a simple 2 story house on the edge of the Uchiha clan lands, near a forest. The house was the only thing his parents had given him as a gift. Now that he thought about it, it seemed more like a severance, so Kagerou wouldn't expect anything else from the inheritance.

The Uchiha clan hadn't yet been forced to relocate to the edge of the village, so right now their clan district was in the centre of the village. This showed the authority the Uchiha had, as one of the two founders of Konoha.

After walking a while Kagerou exited the Uchiha district and went to the main commercial district of Konoha. Immediately, he could tell that the atmosphere was heavy with tension, evidently many villagers were afraid of the war that had started. Most of the adults had already experienced the second shinobi war, and obviously didn't want a repeat.

Of course, the residents of Konoha were extremely lucky as the war would never actually reach the village. Most of the conflict took place in minor nations in between 2 of the major villages. Even if one village managed to push into the territory of a major nation, it was very unlikely for them to ever reach another major village and fight. The 5 kages themselves were huge deterrents to this.

In this case, the third shinobi war was basically about resources. The land of fire has the best, most fertile land. Therefore the other nations want a part of it.

The reason for the gloomy atmosphere in the village was because many of the villagers had friends or family that were shinobi, taking part in the war. Quite a few had also received news of the death of loved ones. As such, a gloomy atmosphere was inevitable.

Kagerou kept his head down and quickly scuttled into a nearby ninja tools shop. Even before the night of the kyuubi massacre, the distrust towards the Uchiha in the village was high. It had been growing ever since the reign of Tobirama.

He scanned the shelves of the weapons shop with mild curiosity. He had come for the basics: some shuriken, a few kunai, maybe a short sword to replace his current one, which had taken a beating on his last mission. But the store carried far more than just the essentials. Chakra blades, fuma shuriken, barrier tags, smoke bombs – tools he had not even seen in his past life. Tempting, but out of reach. His savings from previous missions amounted to a modest sum, not enough for a shopping spree. For all the danger shinobi faced, the pay was underwhelming. Civilians often earned more running food stalls than ninja did risking their lives. Kagerou could not help but wonder why anyone still signed up, but then again, the "Will of Fire" propaganda ran deep in Konoha. It kept people loyal, obedient and blind.

The jingle of a bead curtain signaled the shopkeeper's approach from the back room. A stout man in his fifties emerged, wiping his hands on a grease-stained cloth. His eyes lit up with the reflexive enthusiasm of someone who hadn't had many customers that day.

"Welcome! Looking for something special? I just got a shipment of se—"

He stopped mid-sentence. His gaze had drifted downward to the fan-shaped crest on Kagerou's sleeve.

The shift in atmosphere was immediate.

His smile vanished, replaced by a flat expression. His cheerful tone gave way to one of tight civility, laced with something sharper.

"…What do you want?" he asked, voice clipped and suddenly devoid of warmth.

Kagerou blinked once, unbothered. He'd seen this sort of reaction before. It wasn't new, and it wasn't subtle. People tried to hide it more often, though.

"I need a few standard tools. Kunai, shuriken. A short blade if you have one balanced for right-handed use," Kagerou replied evenly, his tone polite but neutral.

The shopkeeper gave a short nod, motioning toward one of the side shelves. "Over there. Standard issue stock."

No offer of assistance. No upselling. Just cold efficiency. As if the elderly man was trying to get rid of him as soon as possible

Kagerou walked over without another word, already used to the way people's expressions turned when they saw the Uchiha crest. If anything, he was grateful for the silence.

He quickly gathered up some essentials, including a new short sword. He would've liked to get a chakra conductive one, but those were far too expensive.

Speaking of swords, he now had the time to consider something he saw earlier before he got distracted with the newbie gift box. Kagerou's predecessor was very skilled with the sword. Even more so than he was with fire and lightning release. His Kenjutsu skill was at A-rank, in other words, he was a kage-level swordsman. Someone who could fight a Kage with a sword.

Of course, it was unknown if he could take on someone like the third hokage and win, but he could definitely put up a fight. In other words, Kagerou was also a Kage-level shinobi. But the system was showing his level to be that of a special jounin. There could be two reasons for this. Firstly, because Kagerou was not officially known to be at the Kage-Level. Secondly because the original Kagerou himself did not know he was at the Kage-level.

Kagerou was quite surprised, when he looked through the memories of his predecessor. The original Kagerou had never revealed his strength with a sword. The Uchiha clan was a clan that predominantly practiced shurikenjutsu and fire release. Kenjutsu was frowned upon within the clan, but not heavily discouraged. After all, in the future both Itachi and Sasuke would use swords.

That being said, the original Kagerou, who craved approval from his parents, and the clan, had decided to keep his talent in kenjutsu a secret. He would practice with the sword only when he was by himself, and he stored it in a sealing scroll to ensure people wouldn't see it.

Since he barely used the sword during missions or training sessions with his teammates or clansmen, he never actually realised how skilled he had gotten with it. He ended up not even knowing that he was able to fight at the Kage-level with a sword. However, the current Kagerou, who had seen the Naruto anime could very easily tell the real strength in his predecessor's kenjutsu. This sort of monstrous talent had gone unnoticed due to an unneeded inferiority complex!

He decided to check the [✦Host Information Panel✦] again. And as he opened it up, there it was, his updated real level of strength.
