The cold night wind moved softly through the ruined walls of the castle.
Frank walked slowly toward the center of the courtyard, the beam of his flashlight cutting through the darkness as it moved across the old stone floor. The ruins were silent now. Only the distant sound of the desert wind could be heard brushing against the broken towers.
In the middle of the courtyard, the spiral was still there.
Frank stopped a few steps away from it.
The carved shape twisted inward across the stone floor, forming a perfect spiral that seemed strangely untouched by time. Even after everything that had happened there a year ago, the carving remained exactly the same.
He approached it cautiously.
Frank lowered his flashlight, directing the light toward the center of the spiral. There was a small circular opening carved at the very middle of the symbol.
A hole.
Frank leaned forward slightly and pointed the beam directly into it.
The light disappeared into darkness.
