Myrcella smiled as she saw Robb, his eyes shone brightly in the pale light. The green reflecting against his pale skin, his cheeks were slightly red from the cold. Myrcella touched her own cheeks and felt the cold. Winter was truly coming.
She pushed that thought to one side as she got to Robb's side. "Are you ready?" She asked.
They had decided to meet after the morning meal to venture back to that building. They wanted to see what was in there. She wasn't sure why, but something in her told her that whatever was in there was important.
"I am." Robb said. He held up an unlit torch. "I brought this as well so that we could see what was inside. I've got a light for it as well."
Myrcella nodded. "Let's proceed then."
She linked their arms together, feeling a slight flutter as she did so. They walked forward, passed a few servants who bowed as they passed them. Ser Arys was a silent shadow at their rear, whilst Greywind was their guardian in the front.
They went under an archway, and then passed the abandoned broken tower, down another slope and got to the building. They stopped at its entrance; the door was slightly ajar.
"Didn't you put the door back?" She asked.
"We did, Princess." Ser Arys said from behind them.
"It might be the hinge or something else." Robb said. "No matter, we'll go inside, see what's inside the building and then come out." He looked at her then and asked. "Agreed?"
Myrcella looked at her betrothed and saw concern and hope in his eyes. "Agreed." She replied.
Robb smiled, setting her heart aflutter again. Robb pushed the door and it opened completely, they stepped into the darkness. Though the darkness consumed them only momentarily, for Robb soon pulled his arm free of her embrace and used it to light the torch. The flame brought brightness in a flare.
Robb moved the torch one way and then another, illuminating the building, showing that there were what looked like drawings on the walls. Something caught Myrcella's eye on the right wall, prompting her to say. "Keep the light on this wall, Robb."
Robb complied and Myrcella moved to the right and stared at what she could see. It was a slightly confusing sight. On the wall there seemed to be some sort of gathering depicted. A horde of men flying banners, on the banners were what looked like direwolves. At the front of the scene was a man, he towered over everyone else. His hair was dark and brown, his eyes were a piercing grey. At his side was a direwolf that was as big as two horses. It was grey in colour.
The drawing ended there. She frowned.
"That must be one of the old Kings of Winter." Robb said.
Myrcella turned and looked at her betrothed. "What do you mean?"
Robb swallowed, were his eyes a different colour? She pushed that thought to the side when he answered. "There are stories that the very first Kings of Winter had direwolves as pets, or rather as trusted allies. These direwolves were as big as the one you see in that drawing. They were terrors of the night. But there was something about the Kings of Winter that made them friendly."
Greywind yipped in the silence that followed. Instinctively, Myrcella leaned down to stroke his fur, the beast purred.
"When did the Starks lose their direwolves?" She asked.
"Nobody is quite sure. There are rumours that Torrhen Stark had a direwolf. But nobody is sure. All Stark Lords statutes have direwolves as companions in the crypt though." Robb said.
Myrcella nodded, clearly there was something more to it, but she decided that that could wait for another time. "We should see what else is here."
Robb nodded and moved the light to the other wall, this time, it was somewhat clearer what was being shown.
A man, with fiery hair and blue eyes stood before an army. Banners flew in the air, Stark, Bolton, Umber, Tallhart and Karstark. Those were the ones she recognised but there were a dozen more. The man had a direwolf at this side. The beast had two fingers in its mouth, the fingers were bleeding and a giant stood by the beast, laughing.
"What the hell is this?" Robb whispered.
"The future?" Myrcella replied, wonderingly.
"Whose future?" Robb asked.
Myrcella did not know, but the man in this drawing looked like Robb. At least if the fiery hair was any indication. She glanced at her betrothed and this time she gasped.
"What is it, Myrcella?" Robb asked, looking at her with concern.
"Your eyes, they've changed colour." Myrcella said, barely believing what she was seeing.
"What?" Robb asked with concern.
"They were green but now, now they're blue." Myrcella said.
"My eyes were never green…they've always been blue." Robb said.
"No, they were green." Myrcella said.
"The Princess is right." Ser Arys said stepping forward then, Myrcella looked at her knight and saw that he was looking at Robb with suspicion.
Robb didn't answer, instead he moved the light toward the thing they had both distantly seen yesterday.
It was a small figure, its face was indistinct, but it held a dragon. Myrcella peered further and saw that the dragon had its mouth open and within the open mouth there was a lion, a direwolf and a stag. The three seemed to be looking for ways out of the dragon's mouth but they couldn't find a way out.
She wasn't sure what it was that prompted the urge, but she leaned forward and touched the figure and gasped.
She was stood before the broken tower, and she saw a young wolf climbing. That didn't make sense, direwolves couldn't climb, could they?
The wolf reached the top where there was a window, clearly the young pup saw something for he whimpered, but what it was he saw, she could not tell. She heard a caw and looked away from the wolf, and saw a raven flying near the wolf, the raven moved to the wolf and somehow pushed the wolf off the tower. The wolf fell to the ground and whimpered.
The image changed.
Now she was stood in a city, it stank and there were puppets staring at a platform. There a young lion roared, causing the puppets to cheer. A bird brought forth another wolf, this one was older, greyer. The young lion pointed and snarled at the wolf. The puppets cheered again. The lion smiled and ripped the head off the wolf. The puppets yelled and screamed.
The image changed a third time.
Now she saw a wheel, it was spinning furiously, a direwolf, a lion, a stag and a kraken were all in the wheel, running fiercely, some were sweating, others were yelling. A shadow came over the wheel and fire engulfed it, causing the wheel to break and for the creatures inside to scream.
Myrcella blinked, she looked at Robb and saw that he too had touched the figure.
"Did you see?" She asked.
"Yes." Robb said.
"What does it mean?" She asked.
Robb was about to reply but a loud crack caused them both to look at the figure, it was breaking into small pieces right before their eyes. It soon disintegrated into dust, leaving no sign that it had ever existed.
