Chapter 22 - Chapter 22: Tunnels

"I scrub, I scrub, I scrub scrub scrub..."

In the cave, Levi poured a bucket of water and frowned as he placed the stick covered in patina into the water pit. He struggled to beat and knock it, then scrubbed vigorously, finally managing to remove most of the encrusted outer shell.

A moment later, when all the filth fell from the sword's body, he looked at this gleaming precious sword with uncontainable joy.

At this moment, the "Filth-Covered" modifier in front of this sword had disappeared, and the item ID officially became [Elven Ancient Sword].

Attack +9.

"Holy crap!"

Two points higher attack than a diamond sword!

Equivalent to a diamond sword with built-in Sharpness III enchantment.

This time he'd really struck treasure.

Diamond sword? What's that? Don't know it. Don't ruin my relationship with the elven ancient sword.

But this elven ancient sword... connected to elves and carrying the word "ancient" meant it truly had history. After all, elves had endless lifespans... what might be antiques passed down through several human generations probably weren't as old as their tableware.

This had to be from at least the previous or the one before that Age.

It had to be said that Middle-earth's forging techniques were truly magical. Some weapons wouldn't fade or decay even after thousands or tens of thousands of years.

After washing the sword, Levi glanced at the water pit with its murky surface still floating with some filth, then at the empty bucket in his backpack.

Forget it, this water was no good anymore.

Looking at the still-glowing precious sword in his backpack, he felt this trip had been truly worthwhile. The value of this one sword far exceeded all the gold and silver.

Wait.

Levi suddenly noticed something.

Was it constantly glowing?

Alarm bells rang in his mind. He immediately became alert, quickly left the cave, crouched low, and hid in the tree shadows while looking around.

Rustle rustle.

Before long, footsteps indeed sounded.

An orc almost passed right in front of Levi, running to an orc riding a warg and immediately reporting:

"Leader, I saw firelight in a cave in that direction."

"Don't worry about it. That's troll territory."

"Yes." The orc withdrew.

The warg beneath sniffed and looked around, seeming somewhat restless.

"Baby, what do you smell?"

Crimson eyes turned left and right, finally locking onto a patch of tree shadow.

Sometimes, Levi really finds these wargs annoying.

These creatures not only had noses more sensitive than dogs but could also climb walls and trees.

Following the orc passing before him with his gaze, he soon discovered an orc cavalry squad not far away.

A rough count suggested about twenty warg riders.

Stroking the precious sword in his hand, Levi weighed the difference in combat strength between enemy and self.

A bit tricky.

If he were wearing diamond armor, Levi would still have confidence in battle. Even if he couldn't win, diamond armor's full defense could support him in breaking through forcefully. But iron armor was ultimately lacking.

Honestly, his combat experience wasn't particularly rich, and his fighting techniques weren't brilliant either. Aside from dealing with trolls, most battles relied on trading health. Once enemy numbers exceeded ten, he'd feel somewhat overwhelmed.

Should he run?

No way. My newly acquired precious sword... could it suffer such indignity?

Must deal with them!

However...

Most Minecraft players wouldn't choose direct confrontation when facing a large group of enemies.

Seeing a warg heading in his direction, Levi quietly retreated, moving away from this location.

The warg burst into the bushes, finding only some lingering scent.

"Something was here?"

The orc squad leader asked.

The warg panted, which counted as a response.

"Stay alert."

On the other side.

After leaving, Levi directly pulled out his shovel.

He began digging tunnels nearby.

At this time, that warg cavalry squad was still advancing, while he, having finished digging, followed their trail again.

"This direction should be the Misty Mountains."

These orcs were probably planning to return to their nest.

However, they were destined not to have a smooth journey today.

Levi quietly drew his precious glowing elven sword, suddenly burst from the bushes, jumped up, and delivered a chopping blow.

Thud!

A heavy striking sound came, indicating this was a full critical hit. The orc rider at the very back was instantly killed with one sword strike, and the warg beneath couldn't escape death's fate either.

Perhaps the warg's fur wasn't particularly tough, or perhaps this sword was too sharp... under his forceful swing, he actually cut away the warg's rear half with one sword. This poor warg let out a wail and died on the spot.

"Enemy attack!"

The riders ahead suddenly reacted, roaring angrily and raising their cleavers to charge at Levi.

Instantly drawing his left-hand shield to block and repel the attacking orc, he didn't linger in battle. Taking advantage of the main force turning around, he had already run several steps away.

Of course, no matter how fast Levi ran, he couldn't outrun wargs. Even though he started fleeing early, the wargs still pressed closer step by step.

Just when they were about to catch up, he suddenly leaped into the bushes ahead, and the warg followed.

However, the next moment, it was dumbfounded. There wasn't a trace of the human on the clearing ahead, nor any signs of activity around.

It was as if he had vanished into thin air.

The main force arrived immediately after.

"Damn it, where did that scum go!"

The orc squad leader angrily looked around. The wargs lowered their heads to sniff but only smelled the fragrance of earth, as if it had been freshly turned.

Not far away, Levi dug away a block of earth and climbed up using it as a step.

"What's that sound?"

A scout went to investigate. After looking around, the biggest anomaly was a square patch of earth that seemed to have been freshly turned.

Could someone actually be farming in this place?

Just as the orc scout was puzzled, suddenly a white light flashed. The warg beneath him wailed and collapsed limply on the spot.

Then came the falling orc scout. The moment he hit the ground, he was run through the chest with a sword and executed on the spot.

"Damn it, he's over there!"

The killing commotion wasn't small, and an orc immediately spotted Levi.

However, when a group of riders angrily charged over, they found the person had disappeared again.

Thud.

Levi fell on his butt in the tunnel, hurriedly blocked the entrance, then headed toward another exit.

"Damn human!"

The squad leader growled angrily, unable to figure out how such a big person could suddenly disappear.

"Ah!"

Just then, screams came from the back of the formation again. Another rider had been ambushed and fallen.

"Over there!"

"Where is he!"

"Ah!"

In just the time it took to turn around, another flash of light passed through the chest of the last isolated orc.

"There's more than one enemy!"

Facing successive mysterious ambushes, the squad leader immediately realized the seriousness of the problem.

There was definitely more than one attacker... otherwise the ambush angles couldn't be so strange.

But there couldn't be too many attackers either. At least in direct combat, they definitely couldn't beat his cavalry squad, or they wouldn't resort to such ambush tactics.

"You scum, come out and fight if you dare!"

However, there was no response. Levi dug open the earth above his head, covered it, crouched in the bushes, found the right moment, drew his sword and struck...

"Found you!"

Whoosh...

A sound of something cutting through air passed by. He only felt pain in his chest... an arrow was already embedded in his body.

All things come in threes. After experiencing multiple ambushes, no matter how slow these orcs were, they should know to be on guard.

"Hahaha!"

The orc squad leader's mouth split into a grin, letting out a satisfied laugh.

"I'm going to gut you, eat your flesh, and drink your blood!" Before even catching Levi, the squad leader was already fantasizing.

However, he saw Levi simply cut down the orc in front of him while calmly pulling out the arrow and putting it in his backpack, saying, "Thanks."

Then, as if uninjured, he took off running.

Swoosh...

Halfway through running, Levi turned and leaped into the bushes. The squad leader immediately felt something was wrong.

When he led the main force charging into the bushes, he found that indeed, the person had disappeared again.

Staring at the flat ground, the orc squad leader was now filled with fear. These successive disappearances were too strange.

There were probably many traps in this area. Continuing to stay here would only result in losing all his soldiers.

This relatively bright orc squad leader immediately issued an order:

"We'll leave this place first... gah!"

Before he finished speaking, an arrow suddenly attacked without warning, instantly penetrating his armor and stabbing into the squad leader's shoulder, severely wounding him.

And the source of this arrow was actually right beneath his feet!

Looking at the one-meter-wide entrance and tunnel that had suddenly appeared beside his feet, at this moment, the squad leader understood everything.
