Even though Amari had spoken only a few simple words, the tension in the room was so heavy that the six people around her could feel it pressing against their chests.
Everyone turned to stare at Amari in disbelief. Was this really the former Mrs. Clavel? She was nothing like the woman the rumors painted her to be. There was something different about the way she carried herself—too poised, too dignified, too untouchable.
Mandy's face twisted, ugly with jealousy and pride. Though fear was clear in her trembling hands, she still forced herself to sneer.
"Me? Afraid of you?!" Mandy spat. "Please. I'm just speaking the truth!"
But Amari only gave her a small, calm smile. Without saying another word, she walked past them and headed into the office, her heels clicking confidently against the floor.
