The cell block was back to having most of its occupants again. After attempting to break out most of them were locked in their cells. Rico and Lex Luthor were the only ones who were out at the tables.
Rico was reading up on thermodynamics. Apparently the prison had quite a diverse library. But it was probably because of the person across from him who was reading a business magazine. Probably catching up on what was going on in the world of business. It had only been a few days but it was clear he was meeting with his former assistant and discussing business.
But it appears he was limited by the lack of communication and being stuck in prison. But from the news it was looking like he was gearing up for a return to the life of a free man. He was probably playing some hand to get out of jail.
So usually it was him who got the visitor announcement. But today as they were sitting at the table Rico's collar beeped. "Prisoner, Rico Bell. You have a visitor, move to the blue door." His collar informed him.
Rico stood up and set his book on the table before walking to the door. As he walked to the door it slid open and he walked through. It slammed closed behind him and he walked to the chair while checking out his guest.
The reporters from the Daily Planet had not come back after that first visit. But this time it was a woman in a pants suit. She had a leather bag and was holding up a device to the corner of the room. She walked back a second later and sat across from him.
"Hello, I am Dahl from Dahl and Willowtree. I am possibly your new lawyer. But I need to hear if I should take this job first. So explain from the top what happened? Why are you in prison?" Dahl asked as she pulled out some files. Rico recognized them as his file. It was quite thin for a criminal because there were only observations and side reports from cases. Nothing he was directly involved in.
"I can give you a general idea but I do not feel like discussing the case fully. But I am curious how much that the police put in the file that is false." Rico requested as he nodded at the file.
Dahl looked at him for a moment before shaking her head, "I have not looked at it yet. I wanted to get an untainted account from you first." Dahl confessed as she set the file to the side. "We will look over it later after we talk. So start from the top."
Rico nodded, "okay, the morning of my arrest I willingly went with the police when they showed me the warrant for my arrest. But I stopped them from forcing their way into my place of residence since the warrant was only for my arrest."
"What about the night before? When did the crime you were charged with occur?" Dahl asked.
Rico shook his head, "I do not have an alibi for the time of the murders. But an hour after them I was with two individuals who are unreliable witnesses. So there is no point in dragging them into this when that would not help."
"But before them?" Dahl asked as she began writing some notes.
Rico shook his head, "doing a job that I was hired for." Rico glanced at the camera in the corner of the room. "It was just some light mercenary work, but I am not going to compromise working relationships because of police corruption."
Dahl nodded, "okay. No way to get a reliable alibi." She then motioned for him to wait for a moment. "Identities of the women you were with? Do not worry about the cameras. I disabled them."
Rico raised an eyebrow then he shrugged, "Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy. Those were the pair of women I was with. From what I understand, Ivy is still staying with my mercenary group."
"Okay. Now at the police station what happened when you were taken there?" Dahl asked.
"I was put in the interrogation room and then told what they had and Detective Bullock slammed my head into the table when I asked for a lawyer. Then less than an hour later I was on the bus to Blackgate. Where I was tossed in a cell? I was never formally charged or anything else." Rico informed her.
Dahl stopped writing and looked up at him. "That is unusual for even the most corrupt of Gotham officers. You said they had something?"
"Yes, a video of someone who looked like me that was killing the victim in question. Who happens to work as an information broker in Gotham City. After I confirmed that I had my people watching and protecting their family until the police managed to figure out that much." Rico shrugged when she gave him a confused look. "We have shapeshifters in Gotham. It is not usual for raw footage to be wrong. But they are not able to duplicate genetic material and the police said they managed to get a separate bit of DNA from the scene."
Dahl stopped for a moment and held up a hand as she quickly wrote on a note pad. After a few minutes she nodded. "Okay, I have an idea to get you free. But from what I understand we should also be able to get reparations from the state. So let's start with what happened when you went to Blackgate."
Rico raised an eyebrow. "Well in that case I suppose I should start with the prison yard."
