Chapter 9: Green Rage, Ghostly Escape, PI on the Trail

The world, having just barely recovered from the Iron Man saga, was about to be introduced to a new kind of green. And no, it wasn't a new eco-friendly initiative. It was the Hulk. Adam, sitting in his office, watching grainy news footage of a massive, green blur tearing through a bottling plant in Brazil, felt a familiar sense of dread mixed with his usual morbid curiosity.

"Ah, the Incredible Hulk. Or, as I like to call it, 'Bruce Banner's Really Bad Day.' Honestly, the man just wants to be left alone, and the military keeps poking him with sticks. It's like they've never seen a cautionary tale before."

General Ross. Emil Blonsky. The relentless pursuit. Adam knew the drill. Bruce Banner was a walking, talking, gamma-irradiated ticking time bomb, and the military was doing its best to make him explode.

"Alright, System," Adam muttered, leaning back in his squeaky chair. "Bruce Banner. Needs to escape. General Ross. Needs to be thoroughly annoyed. What's the best way to make a general chase his own tail?"

[Achievement Trigger: Witness a Plot (Hulk's rampage). Objective: Aid Bruce's escape. Achievement Trigger: Change a Plot (aiding Bruce's escape).]

He pulled up a map of Brazil, tracing Bruce Banner's known movements. The man was a ghost, but a very large, very angry ghost. Adam needed to get there.

He teleported to a small, dusty town near the last reported sighting of the Hulk. The air was humid, thick with the scent of tropical foliage and, faintly, ozone. He saw military vehicles, camouflaged and bristling with weaponry, swarming the area. General Ross was clearly not messing around.

Adam activated his Invisibility, melting into the humid air. He moved through the jungle, a silent observer, until he found a clearing. And there, amidst the shattered trees and overturned vehicles, was the evidence of the Hulk's passing. And the very frustrated General Ross, barking orders into a comms unit.

"He couldn't have just vanished!" Ross roared, his face a furious shade of red. "Find him! Every inch of this jungle!"

Adam grinned. "Oh, General, he can. And he will. Especially with a little help from yours truly."

He focused on a patch of dense jungle ahead of Ross's position. He pictured a massive, green figure, just for a fleeting second, crashing through the trees, heading in the opposite direction of Bruce's actual escape route.

[Illusions & Holograms activated. Target: Optic Nerves. Effect: Phantom Hulk.]

Suddenly, a distant roar echoed through the jungle, and a fleeting, blurry image of a massive green figure seemed to tear through the trees, heading deeper into the dense foliage.

"There! He went that way!" a soldier shouted, pointing.

Ross's head snapped up. "After him! All units, that direction! Do not lose him!"

The entire military contingent, like a pack of bloodhounds chasing a phantom scent, veered off, crashing through the jungle in pursuit of Adam's illusion.

Adam watched them go, a satisfied smirk on his face. "Phase one: The Wild Goose Chase. Always effective. Especially when the goose is imaginary and green."

He knew Bruce Banner was trying to lay low, trying to find a cure. He needed to help him stay hidden, to keep Ross off his trail. He saw a small, dilapidated shack in the distance, a perfect temporary hideout. He subtly used his Teleportation to clear a path, moving fallen logs and dense undergrowth, making it easier for Bruce to navigate, unseen.

He spent the next few hours, a silent guardian, subtly diverting Ross's forces, creating phantom noises, making their equipment malfunction with subtle illusions. He even made a particularly annoying military drone briefly turn into a giant, buzzing mosquito, sending the pilot into a frustrated frenzy.

"This is actually kind of relaxing. Like a very high-stakes game of hide-and-seek. And I'm the ultimate seeker, who's also helping the hider. Multi-tasking, baby."

He saw Bruce Banner, in his human form, finally stumble into the shack, exhausted but safe. Adam felt a strange sense of accomplishment. He'd helped. He'd changed the plot, just enough to give Bruce a fighting chance.

He knew his agency was growing. Matt Murdock was handling the legal stuff, but Adam needed more. He needed people who could help him navigate this increasingly bizarre world. People with specific skills. He needed a scientist. And a hacker.

He pulled out his phone, a modern smartphone he'd bought with the money from the Stark case. He started doing some discreet research. Jemma Simmons. Skye. Two names that sparked with potential. Two future allies who were probably feeling just as stifled in their current lives as he had been in his old one.

"Alright, Bruce," Adam murmured, looking at the distant shack. "You get some rest. I've got some recruiting to do. Because soon, you're going to need more than just a good hiding spot. You're going to need a team. And I know just the people."
