Chapter 12: Beast's Capture, Hulk's Escape, Agency's Success

The Harlem battle was reaching its crescendo. Abomination, enraged and regenerating, was a relentless engine of destruction. Hulk, for all his power, was being pushed to his limits. Adam, moving like a blur through the chaos, knew it was time for the final act.

"Alright, big green. Time to go home. And you, ugly grey brute, time for a time-out. A very, very long time-out. And maybe a little something extra to remember me by."

He saw General Ross's forces, still disoriented by Skye's comms jamming, attempting to encircle Abomination. They were too slow, too uncoordinated. Adam needed to ensure Abomination's capture, but more importantly, he needed to ensure Bruce Banner's escape.

He focused on a military officer, barking orders into a sputtering radio. Adam pictured himself. Not as Adam Stiels, PI. But as a high-ranking, very authoritative military general.

[Shapeshifting activated. Target: Self. Effect: Military Officer Impersonation.]

With a subtle shimmer, Adam's form blurred, then solidified. He was taller, broader, his face stern and weathered, a general's uniform fitting him perfectly. He strode confidently towards the confused soldiers.

"What are you doing, soldiers?! You're letting him escape!" Adam-as-General bellowed, his voice booming with authority. "Focus fire! On the grey one! The green one is… a distraction! Get him contained!"

The soldiers, disoriented and desperate for clear orders, immediately shifted their focus, unleashing a volley of tranquilizer darts and net-cannons on Abomination. The creature roared, caught off guard by the sudden, concentrated attack.

"Adam, I'm getting a massive power surge from Blonsky!" Jemma's voice crackled in his ear. "He's trying to break free!"

"Skye, open a clear path for Banner, now!" Adam-as-General ordered, then subtly used his Teleportation to move a heavy piece of debris, creating a narrow, unnoticed escape route for Bruce.

Hulk, seeing the shift in focus, and the sudden opening, let out a final, triumphant roar, slamming Abomination with a devastating blow that sent the creature crashing into the ground, unconscious. Bruce Banner, now in his human form, seized the opportunity, slipping through the newly created path, vanishing into the shadows.

"He's gone, General!" a soldier shouted.

"Let him go!" Adam-as-General roared, pointing at the prone form of Abomination. "Secure this one! He's the real threat! And make sure he's… thoroughly humiliated."

He focused on Abomination, a final, mischievous thought forming.

[Illusions & Holograms activated. Target: Optic Nerves. Effect: Tiny Tutu.]

As the soldiers began to secure Abomination, the massive, grotesque creature shimmered. For a fleeting moment, visible only to the military and any bewildered onlookers, Abomination appeared to be wearing a tiny, frilly pink tutu. It was gone in an instant, but the image was seared into the minds of those who saw it.

Adam-as-General smirked, then subtly activated his Shapeshifting again, blurring back into his original form, and then his Teleportation, vanishing from the scene.

[Achievement Unlocked: Prison a Villain (Abomination). Reward: 200 System Points. Achievement Unlocked: Witness a Main Character Defeating a Villain (Hulk defeats Abomination). Reward: 100 System Points. Achievement Unlocked: Change a Plot (Hulk's escape). Reward: 200 System Points. New Ability Unlocked: Shapeshifting ("Polymorph").]

"Shapeshifting, huh? This is going to be so much fun," Adam thought, feeling the new power settle in. "The possibilities for pranks alone… endless."

He teleported to a nearby rooftop, watching the cleanup. He saw a sleek, black SUV pull up, and a familiar, red-haired woman step out. Natasha Romanoff. Black Widow. She surveyed the scene, her eyes sharp, assessing the damage, the military's confusion, the subtle, almost imperceptible anomalies. Her gaze lingered on the spot where Abomination had briefly worn his phantom tutu. A faint, almost imperceptible flicker of intrigue crossed her face.

"Well, hello there, Black Widow. You noticed, didn't you? Good. Because soon, you and I are going to have a very interesting conversation. And maybe, just maybe, I'll get you to laugh. That's a challenge I'm willing to take."

Adam watched her for a moment, a new kind of interest sparking within him. She was beautiful, dangerous, and clearly, highly observant. He knew their paths would cross again. And he looked forward to it.
