Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: The Captain Called Goblin

Just as Ian looked closer, he realized the man's appearance matched the description he had once heard — the new captain of the Iron Empire's forces, known only by one infamous name: Goblin.

In the Survival Tournament, each of the five nations selects a team of eight — one captain and seven regular members. Usually, it's the captain who chooses the rest.

This man was Goblin. The mysterious captain who had seemingly appeared from nowhere. Nobody knew where he came from or why he had been chosen, but one thing was certain — he was here, now, in this remote village.

As Ian was lost in thought, Goblin continued speaking in his raspy tone.

"I heard there's a survivor of an ancient clan in this village. I got curious... wanted to see what he looked like.

But I have to say, you're more ordinary than I imagined."

Ian clenched his fists, irritated and hurt by the remark, but said nothing.

Goblin went on, "Yeah, I'm Goblin — you've probably figured that out already. But I didn't come here to chat. I came here to find people who'll join me."

Ian's eyes widened — part excitement, part confusion. Why would someone like him be considered?

As if reading his mind, Goblin said, "Don't get ahead of yourself, kid. I'm only offering you a spot in the trial. Whether you make the final team or not... that's up to you."

"A trial?" Ian asked, confused. "Aren't the participants chosen directly by the captain?"

"Usually, yes," Goblin replied. "In the past, captains would handpick warriors from noble families or elite units.

But not me. I'm giving everyone a chance — anyone who thinks they're strong enough can take the test. No status. No family name. Only results."

Goblin's eyes narrowed.

"I'm offering you that chance. But be warned — this trial will last two years, and the risk of death is very real.

Think carefully before you answer."

Ian didn't hesitate. His voice was steady and clear.

"I'm ready. I'll face any danger if it means becoming one of the chosen."

Goblin smirked.

"I like your fire. But before anything else...

I need to see if you really carry the blood of that old clan."
