Chapter 44 - CHAPTER -42: The Storm Breaks

By the time the afternoon bell rang, the rumor had already taken a life of its own.

Some claimed they saw Kairo cornering Ayan in the council room.

Others swore Ayan smirked like he had the Alpha wrapped around his finger.

A few whispered something more daring — that the cold Omega and the golden Alpha weren't enemies at all.

That they were something else.

The cafeteria buzzed with it. Tables leaned in, heads close, glances darting toward the two boys as though waiting for a show.

Ayan entered first, shoulders straight, expression unreadable. His tray clinked softly as he placed it down. Not once did he falter under the weight of every pair of eyes.

Then came Kairo. Loud. Casual. Every step of his drew attention like gravity itself. He didn't hesitate, didn't even look for his usual table.

Instead, he walked straight toward Ayan's.

The whispers turned electric.

He stopped in front of him, close enough that Ayan had to look up.

"You've been busy, Omega," Kairo said, his tone sharp enough to cut through the silence. "Spreading little stories to keep yourself entertained?"

Ayan's fork stilled mid-air. He placed it down, deliberately slow, and met Kairo's eyes. His voice was calm, steady, dangerous.

"Not everyone needs my help to talk about you, Alpha. You do a fine job of that on your own."

A laugh broke out from somewhere across the room. Nervous, eager, like fuel to the fire.

Kairo leaned in, hands braced on the table. Their faces were a breath apart now, the tension so thick it made the entire cafeteria hold its breath.

"You think you can turn this into a game," Kairo murmured low, only for Ayan — but everyone felt it.

"Careful, Omega. I don't play games I don't win."

Ayan's lips curved — not soft, not sweet, but sharp and challenging.

"Then maybe it's time you learned how it feels to lose."

The cafeteria erupted. Gasps. Whispers. Laughter. It was chaos, and the center of it all was them.

The Alpha and the Omega.

Not rumors anymore. A wildfire.

And neither of them looked away.
