Chapter 6 - Teaching a Hand to Run

The young ant's shaking stopped at the sight of his would-be savior, though he was still plenty disoriented.

"Huh? Oh, uh, I'm... I'm alright, I guess."

"That's great! Let's get you stood up, huh?"

Nis grabbed the young ant under the arm and started to pull him up.

'It's still pretty unpleasant to touch them. Why so they have to feel so cold?'

Now, with a new companion,n the ant's limbs started to function, and he was able to stand up. Just as he had stood up, the ground shook again. The Hand was flailing around violently, looking to kill whatever creature had tried to harm it.

Nis started to laugh.

"Haha, look at the bastard! He doesn't even know what's going on. He can flail all he wants, but he's powerless against us!"

"Uh, yeah. Wait! No, this is no laughing matter, bother."

"Oh? Look who got his sanity back. Good!"

"Yes, and now both of us are stuck. What are we going to do?!"

"We... will do nothing together. You, this time, are going to listen to me when I tell you to run, got it? Oh, actually, you can also get me a piece of blast. We'll count that as your act of heroism for today."

After a short time spent collecting a piece of blast, Nis was ready with his blade in his right hand and the piece of blast in his left. He took a glance at the young ant.

"I'll say it again. When I say run, you run. No more paralyzed in fear nonsense."

"I said I was sorry about that! But yes, I understand."

"Nice! I'll see you later then."

With that, Nis started walking back towards the Hand slowly. It had calmed down some and was now slowly trying to find its prey.

'It's actually really fortunate for me. The big bastard can't see anything, and I am free to hurt him in any way I please. This is the best situation I could ask for. I hope all my fights go this way.'

Nis dashed forward directly at the middle of the hand; he had to get closer to have enough time for his plan to work. Before Nis had moved as close as he wanted, the Hand quickly lurched his way. Nis seeing this immediately killed his speed and planted his feet. Using the inertia, he raised his right hand and threw his blade towards the wrist of the giant hand.

The blade spun in the air until it stopped abruptly. It stopped by getting stuck and burying itself into its flesh. The Hand reeled. Pulling itself higher up into the breach. The moment the sword left Nis's hand, he had already started sprinting to the wall that had been carved up by the Hand.

As Nis reached the wall, he jumped. He was jumping at one of the lights attached to the wall. At the peak of his jump, Nis grabbed onto the light and tore it off the wall. Nis landed on the ground and brought his hands together. He placed the piece of blast into the opening at the top of the light, but did not push it in yet. He held both in his right hand and got into an athletic stance.

Nis, now looking up, back toward the hand, saw his fate. The hand was flying directly toward Nis. A small smile appeared on his face.

'It's unfortunate. If the hand was facing a less talented person, it might actually kill them. Truly, my heart breaks for you, you big bastard.'

With that thought, Nis threw the light, the piece of blast being pushed further into the light. The light flew through the air, toward the edge of the breach, right at the part of the arm that peeked out. The light made contact with the mass of black fur. It bounced ever so slightly off the arm and then released a mass of light and noise. The light was blinding, and the amount of force was honestly too much for something that small. Even Nis was surprised at its strength. It was enough to make him fly back and hit the wall because he was too close.

The breach cracked and started to fall apart. Large pieces of rock fell and hit the Hand's fingers, bloodying them.

After a short amount of time, the light and smoke cleared. Nis looked up to see his handiwork. He already knew it was effective since he was still alive. The arm was flailing slightly with a hole in it. Its flesh was blown away. Some parts even show white shining bones. There was less blood than one would expect, because the flesh that was left was cauterized from the blast. An ear-piercing scream boomed from what seemed like too far away. The hand flailed around and quickly pulled itself backwards up the hole at an amazing speed.

With all that happened, Nis was stunned for a bit but quickly snapped out of it. Nis screamed with all his might.

"Now! Run!"

The young bug was less stunned than Nis, probably due to having experience with the explosive. The young ant ran directly beneath the breach, taking the shortest path to the other side.

Taking a few seconds of rest, Nis stood up. The ant had already reached the group, but the hand hadn't come back down. Something that sounded like groans was still resounding from above the breach.

Looking towards the breach, Nis saw his sword lying on the ground. Trying to walk, Nis noticed how much his body hurt, and his vision was a little blurry.

'Yeah, makes sense. I didn't know that stuff was so good at its job.'

Nis forced himself upright and shook his head a little. He had to look alright if things were going to go the way he thought. He slowly walked under the breach. Light poured down on him from above, but he didn't look into it. Reaching for his sword, he bent down and picked it up. He inspected the blade for a couple of seconds.

'Good, it didn't break. It's the only weapon I have, so I need it... Also, it's my only memento of the Crazy Bastard. It would be rude to lose it like that.'

While thinking, the light bathing him was slowly replaced by shadow. Noticing this, Nis put a confident smile on his face and looked up. What Nis saw was a bulging bloodshot eyeball surrounded by a pure void.

A deep voice sounded from the breach.

"I! KILL! YOU!"

Nis giggled a little.

"Oh Yeah. Good Luck with that.

"A word of warning, though."

As Nis said that he pointed his blade toward the eye.

"You put your hand back down this hole, and you won't be getting it back."

A loud, angry roar barreled down the breach.

Nis simply looked away and slowly walked towards the crowd. As if nothing in the world mattered.
