I froze in my steps the moment I heard it. I wanted so badly to shrug it off, to convince myself I had heard wrong, but my body refused to move. My heart pounded as though to confirm that every word was true.
What was I even doing here? My father had already dismissed me from the family company. I had no business at Carter Holdings.
It shouldn't have been a big deal as I am Adrian's wife, after all. The only son and heir of this empire belongs to me and that means I should be free to walk in and out of this building whenever I wish. But that's exactly where the problem lies. Our families.
Despite all the effort I'd put into assisting his father these past weeks, he still hadn't found a place for me here.
