Landon's POV
I hadn't noticed the footsteps that slipped into the office, nor the door that creaked open. My mind had been swallowed by the weight of what I had just uncovered. I only snapped back when a voice sliced through the silence, sharp and trembling.
"Landon?"
The sound jolted me. My grip loosened and the stack of papers in my hand scattered in the air before tumbling to the ground.
I didn't move to gather them. My hands shook, my chest tight. Instead, I turned.
Adrian stood there. His voice called my name again, softer this time, trailing off as his eyes darted downward to the papers littering the floor.
His shoulders stiffened. His fingers twitched at his side before curling into fists, then loosening again as though he couldn't decide whether to reach forward or retreat. I saw his throat bob but no words came.
He looked… terrified. Not just shocked at my intrusion, but rattled. He didn't look like a man caught but a man who had been exposed against his will.
