My eyes settled on Landon the moment I entered the bar. Adrian had just scurried out, his face pale, movements frantic like a guilty man running from something he didn't want anyone to see. I should have focused on him, but instead my gaze locked on Landon.
Why Adrian? Why had it become him of all people? They had been circling each other too closely lately, the kind of closeness that stank of secrets. I cut off the thought before it could twist itself into the truth I didn't want to name.
Landon was striding toward the exit when he slammed into me.
"Lance?" His voice was sharp with surprise. Like I was the last person he expected to see here.
"Landon," I returned evenly, though my eyes betrayed me, darting downward and catching the unmistakable bulge straining his pants.
He paced, restless, before finally approaching. His face was stone, but the tension in his movements betrayed him.
