Chapter 8 - Rivals and First Lecture (2)

Should I try attracting more attention to gain more game points?

Kael Vi-rel rested his chin on his hand, half-listening as the classroom buzzed around him. His thoughts drifted.

If I do that, I won't be able to stay low-key anymore… and I'm not that strong yet.

He sighed quietly to himself.

"No… I shouldn't," he muttered. "I need to increase my stats first especially my physical stats. Just need to endure a bit more."

Kael Vi-rel shake his head and sigh!.

From afar, that simple sigh and head shake caught unwanted attention.

"Did you see that?" someone whispered. "He shook his head and sighed again. He is so arrogant!"

" Who is the hell is he just because he finished first during the practical exam.

" We can't denied it but why is he doing as if he his better than all of us here in this class.

"Right? Like, why is he acting like some elite when he looks like a goblin?"

"Maybe he's ignoring all of us on purpose."

Kael Vi-rel twitched. Those are some wild misunderstandings you've got there…

He could already feel the tension in the room. Most of them still didn't know how to categorize him. Some thought he was a genius, others a joke. And of course, there was always the one hero expected to dominate the country, drawing attention like a black hole.

We're supposed to be allies… friends even. But how can I survive if I just ignore everyone and become a background character again?

Creak! Creak!

The classroom door opened, and all eyes turned to look at the one making the entrance.

A woman with short, flowing green hair and robes lined with glowing runes stepped inside. Her presence demanded attention, and it was clear she was no ordinary instructor.

"Whoa…" someone muttered. "Is that really her?"

"I-is it okay to take pictures of her?"

"I don't know, but she's gorgeous."

She smiled gently and spoke, her voice calm but commanding.

"Hello, cadets. I am Magician Seraphina Dusk, and I will be in charge of teaching you the Basics of Magic. I look forward to your kind cooperation."

Kael Vi-rel perked up a bit.

Seraphina Dusk. A mage whom specializes in Fire magic. Skilled, popular, and beautiful. She was a fan-favorite in the game… and most players missed just how important she was.

The hidden pieces in this game aren't with the students… they're with the teachers and members.

He narrowed his eyes slightly.

I'll need to play my cards right if I want to survive.

Seraphina Dusk moved into a brief introduction of mana principles, channeling, and magical flow circuits. But for many students, it might as well have been an alien language.

"Ughh… I don't get it at all…" a guy groaned.

"Magic is so hard… why are we even learning it"

"That why I always tell you to read books about magic, Elric Vales replied.

"Try thinking about it in simpler terms," Seraphina Dusk encouraged. "Like breathing mana must flow, not be forced."

Kael Vi-rel glanced ahead. Sitting right in front of him were Damon Reid and Elric Vales.

Right. Elric Vales is supposed to be a magic prodigy. Comes from a family of renowned mages. But Damon Reid… he focuses purely on physical ability. That's probably why he's struggling right now.

His eyes flicked between them.

I'm curious now. Let's see just how strong they really are.

Kael Vi-rel's eyes widened slightly.

Amazing. Even without seeing all the ??? stats, Damon is clearly top-tier. Definitely main character material.

Suddenly, his gaze caught a familiar name from the game.

Wait. Isn't that… Clara Winslet?

He focused on the girl sitting a few rows across. She had light yellow hair tied back, her brows furrowed as she stared down at her magic notes, confused.

Clara Winslet… she didn't even show up until the second half of the game. Most players ignored her completely. But one user started building her up as an extra-turned-heroine, and she ended up becoming insanely powerful. She also got promoted from A class to S class.

That guy farmed treasures, points, even achievements just by building a team with 'extras'...

I don't need to go that far, but… if I can build a few smart alliances, it might help me survive.

Kael Vi-rel nearly choked on his breath.

Divine Punishment… an SS-grade skill. In the game, it allowed her to erase entire monsters from existence with a single cast. She could burn armies. But right now… she's still just a beginner.

He looked again. Clara Winslet was scribbling something down, then sighing, clearly overwhelmed by the topics Seraphina Dusk was teaching.

This is it. A golden chance. I can help her now, and earn her trust. Later, she could become one of my greatest allies.

Gaining one or two companions is not bad.

He stood slightly.

Then paused.

Wait… if I have to approach her, I need to talk to her. And to talk to her, I need to…

He glanced at his stat screen.

[Charm: 3]

"…Ah, crap."

That means I'd have to raise my charm stat first… I don't have time for that now!

A cold sweat trickled down his back.

I'm doomed.

Kael Vi-rel slumped back into his seat, struck by a new and unexpected crisis of social interaction.
