Chapter 9 - Kenbōshō

Door' to the elevator open with a soft hum, as it reaches its intended destination, 'Level 8' shows on the display on both sides of the elevators door' .

Once the elevator stops moving completely, Helen glides out of it, using her hover shoes, she glides all the way to the end of the hallway.....of floor no 8, a place where all the most critical patients are kept.

Helen glides her way to room no 17, where the recent 3 special cases have been kept for 24/7 surveillance. Not because the Facilities staff suspected these patients to wreak havoc but to make sure, they are always ready for any eventuality, in case of emergencies....

The entire place was designed by Dr. Ren. So that she never had to lose a patient, just because nobody was paying attention.

When Helen entered the room, she was greeted by medical care bot's and 3 nurses, respectively each being was busy at their given duty, the care bots were given the task of cleaning after the patients and maintaining the rooms, the nurses were in-charge of administering the medicine and vital checks, together these two sets made sure the patients spent their time in as much comfort as possible while being in the best environment possible.

As Helen moved towards special case patients, the bots and the nurses moved to make way, as they did, Helen checked their vitals, food, and meds chart to make sure they were getting everything they needed. While in this condition nither the staff nor the doctors knew what would become of special case patients, since their body chemistries were altered by the radiation of the ray, nobody could gauge the appropriate resting time for these special case patients their bodies and their respective chemistries were being classified as non human, as they were exposed to the rays radiation the longest.

Each patient could take as long as years to recover from their current state, so regular check-up' were mandatory for the Facilities staff. Even with all this the doctors who treated the patients were the only ones allowed to check and make any sort of changes to the special case patients schedules or anything else.

"How are the patients?" Asked Helen sounding a little worried, it had already been 3 whole days and almost every other patient was already up from their metamorphosis stages, and yet the special 3 were still not responding to any form of stimulus...

In cases like the special 3, it was usually deemed that the patients were already beyond repair and were left off to rot on level 13, a place they used as a makeshift holding place for non responsive cases, left for dead, noone visits this level not even staff, and the patients usually who are transfered to this level, are considered dead, hence the nickname 'morgue'.

Don't get mistaken there was an official morgue in the facility for disposal of the dead, but level 13 wasn't like the other levels where all the patients had their own designated rooms, in order to isolate and contain the radiation, if the patients had been kept together the radiation would have gone through the roof, putting everyone in danger and making the area uninhabitable for anything. And that is exactly what had happened on level 13, no separate rooms, not even close to the surface, level 13 was rumoured to be 500 feet deep within the earth, the Facility was built like a building but upside down, there were a total of 20 floors and level 13 was at the very bottom or top of the building depending on your perspective, so technically its level 1 or level 20, but the staff of Facility had tokend it level 13 since it being there meant you had rotten luck....

Once Helen was done checking their vitals, she decided to give the patients a total of 5 more days, after that, they would be shifted to the morgue, a place both Helen and Dr. Ren detested very much, but nonetheless they had to follow orders no matter how they felt on the matter.

"Keep their old diet consistent, no changes there, tip back on the morphine, the pain might just bring them back to our world" Helen said with a pained expression on her face, holding back her sorrow for her patients' fates.

Making use of the glide function in her shoes, Helen glides back to deliver the report to Dr.Ren who she knows won't like it. Throughout their childhoods, Ren was the compassionate one, while Helen was the risk taker and the wall that did her best to shield Ren from the world.

Helen didn't really want to join the Facilities private army, but had to since Dr. Ren wished to, and ofcourse Helen had to be there... or at least that was her excuse for being stuck in this place and being miserable about it too

Now i wasn't in the picture for at least 7 more days since my consciousness couldn't decide where to go... so during this week a lot of things transpired, i'm not really sure of the timeline of these events but i'll do my best to tell you all about them, but remember these recollections are based on the rumours and hearsay i picked up from the staff and the other patients.

So day 3 after the surgery and after Helen's visit to our ward, the nurses cleared out and soon after so did the bots. Once the room was empty and lights were cut out, there was a shift in the shadows which surrounded us, as if something sentient had entered them, and was attempting to move towards us, reasons unknown, it kept moving forward but never really reached any of us. Once the sentience in the shadow had figured that it cannot reach us, the shadows just disappeared, leaving the room cold and nearly dead of any warmth.

When this incident was noticed by the guard, the news spread like wildfire reaching Helen, Dr. Ren and Senior Han within the hour of the incident.

They all steadily shuffled in for inspection by afternoon, finding nothing but an energy surge within, which according to Dr. Ren could have been a sign of one of us waking from Metamorphosis, but that didn't explain the shadows movementum because to be able to do such a thing the person responsible would have to be conscious, able to use their abilities to an extent and understand them as well, which is nearly impossible, since only one person so far has done it, and that person's abilities didn't have anything to do with shadows.

A few days passed from the incident, the staff was too spooked to approach our room, they claim whatever it was, hasn't left the room and still keeps approaching the special 3 every nightfall.

Some did attempt to approach us during one of the nights but were found unconcious the next dawn, reason? they were completely drained of energy the moment they stepped inside the room, Dr. Ren's explanation? 'Radiation in the room has increased unexpectedly' i mean who says something like that? when they don't have a clue of what's going on around them!

Once Senior Han learned what Dr. Ren thought on the matter he declared us radioactive and dangerous to be dealt with by regular staff, and so we the special 3 were banished to the most radioactive place in this entire establishment.

And now this is where you will come to know me..... and my tragedy? life? i don't know what to call it, but i guess for you it is a journey, and so i welcome you, to my world of beauty, peace, and misery.
