By Saturday morning, the world still didn't feel real.

Somehow, Ronan had convinced Alpha Alexander and the Beta to let me stay at his mother's house instead of being locked up in that cold room with chains on the wall.

I didn't know what kind of argument he had made, but I wasn't going to complain.

The warmth of Calla's home was a stark contrast to the sharp, cold tension that hung everywhere else in this pack territory.

I'd spent the entire day there, mostly curled up on the couch, my thoughts running in frantic circles.

Calla moved around the kitchen, humming softly. She had the kind of energy that felt like sunlight peeking through clouds, and I needed that. Badly.

"You're awfully quiet today," she said, setting down a plate of warm cornbread between us. "You didn't sleep well, did you?"

I shook my head, my fingers playing with the hem of my borrowed T-shirt. "I kept… seeing his face. Elias. I can't get the image out of my head. Has there been any change?"
