My heart pounded as Paula stepped between us, her eyes darting nervously between me and Lorenzo. The rain outside grew heavier, drumming against the café's glass windows like a warning.
"Laura, please," Paula said, her voice softer now. "You need to see this before you walk away again."
I folded my arms, refusing to sit. "I don't need to see anything, Paula. What's done is done. Lorenzo made his choice five years ago."
"Laura—" Lorenzo's voice cracked slightly, and he took a hesitant step closer. "You deserve the truth."
I scoffed. "The truth? You mean the truth you should've told me five years ago before you humiliated me in front of everyone? Before you filed those papers and had Victoria move into our home?"
He sighed heavily, rubbing his temples. "I never wanted to hurt you."
I laughed bitterly. "Oh, so you just accidentally ended up in bed with your secretary and handed me divorce papers on the day of our anniversary?"
His jaw clenched. "That's not what happened."
