BANG
Ethan saw streaks of light hit a number of beasts. It was spectacular, the way the exterminators were handling the situation. Even though large hordes of mutant beasts came out from the underground, they still handled it pretty fairly.
Ethan just sat atop a skyscraper as he continued to observe. He wanted to see how other awakened handled the situation. This was just the mutant beast horde; the second and third wave would surely have sacred beasts coming.
It was in some occasions that Ascended or Apex realm warriors usually chipped in—most times it was the Awakened.
Ethan saw drones hovering above the battlefield. By this time everywhere was in a mess—guts, blood, and bones of colossal beasts scattered everywhere. Most of the beasts were huge so it was tougher for the exterminators to handle it.
This planet is a lower-tier planet, and awakened were common, but Ascended, Apex, and Suppressors were quite rare. If not for the power and technology the Brotherhood Guild wielded, this planet could have turned into a chaos planet.
And to be exact, the Brotherhood are last in the rankings.
"Damn, who would have thought these assholes had this much to show," Ethan chuckled as he saw the exterminators being overwhelmed.
"Eh, so much to show… too bad when I want to wipe you out, all this can't even leave a scratch." Ethan smirked. He really meant the Brotherhood Guild, but right now he was too weak. Their head of the guild should be at the level of Supreme, which are capable of wiping out a whole horde of heavenly beasts single-handedly.
*All awakened report to battlefield, the exterminators aren't holding on for too long. The loudspeakers boomed in the air.*
Flying to the highest skyscraper and stretching his eyes, Ethan could see that the military had barricaded the whole area. A large dome covered the entirety of the sky, meant to keep the beasts from getting out. By now the whole of Palm View was flooded with beasts. The defensive line of the exterminators was crumbling.
Zing
Ethan sensed something—the aura of a sacred beast.
"Isshh, this city is about to be doomed," he sighed. He could have jumped in but he arrived way too early. The others may start to wonder how he was this fast when he is not an Ascended. Normally Ethan could go head-on with an early Ascended.
Bang bang
Immediately Ethan saw a group of about 30 rush into the dome. They were the awakened. Flashes of mana rang out as they confronted the mutant beasts.
Most of them were doing good; they formed teams and were able to easily confront the colossal mutant beasts with ease.
Ethan saw about 5 awakened grouping against a colossal mutant beast. The beast's body was jagged and emitted radiant light at the ending, and it was 2 stories tall. The 5 awakened were struggling to land a fatal blow on it.
Bang! Shriiieeek!
The beast trashed nearby buildings and the awakened were having a hard time dodging the flying debris. Although the exterminators could have reached out, they were holed up and rounded up by many small mutant beasts.
"Uh, I gotta help all those awakened—the sacred beast hordes will soon come out now," Ethan said. Putting on a black mask and pulling out his rank 1 sword, he jumped into the building, running up the flight of stairs.
Bang!
He flew out from a glass window, entering another building. He could have jumped straight out from the skyscraper and landed on the ground, but the cameras were everywhere—he wouldn't want any attention.
Bang bang
With speed he burst out from building to building before reaching the ground. He landed on a rock, looking ahead. 2 females and 3 males were slicing at the colossal mutant beast. A female girl was also among those slicing the beast. Ethan could guess that she was at peak state of awakened—her attributes should have already reached 50.
To be an Ascended one would need their attributes to be more than 100.
"Pretty good for an awakened at this age," Ethan was impressed. This time the system was quiet—seems this beast was a piece of cake for Ethan.
Brandishing his rank 1 sword, Ethan slowed his speed and dashed to the group. "Time to test my skills, let's see," Ethan thought.
[Void Step — Skill Level 1: Move through distorted space, bypassing obstacles or attacks. Mana cost: 5]
"Hmmm, the new space skill," Ethan thought. With this new space-time skill he should be able to practice Star Sword Technique Level 2.
"Hey, who are you?" one of the female awakened asked in a loud voice.
"I am the backup," Ethan said with a calm tone.
"Well you better get in line and don't slow the team down," she said.
The girl at the front looked at Ethan. "Hmph," she snorted. "You better stay out of my way," she snapped at Ethan.
Ethan just looked at her and didn't say anything.
"Hmph, you are in a dire situation and you dare be arrogant? What a foolish kid," Ethan chuckled as he dashed for the beast.
"What are you doing, idiot?! You are not even wearing armor and you are wielding a rank 1 weapon!" a medium-sized guy with yellow hair shouted.
"Damn, this guy," the arrogant girl rushed in.
Boom! Bang!
The beast swung its jagged tail as it crushed toward Ethan and the girl. The girl flew up, dodging it, but when she looked down she saw Ethan on the other side—unhurt. His rank 1 sword was glowing brightly.
Slice! Spuurtsss!
The beast's tail detached from its body, blood spraying everywhere.
"What? How come… how did he dodge it?" the girl was shocked. "Not even a rank 2 weapon could cut that big."
"Hmmm, that was close. This Void Step skill is good," Ethan was surprised. This void technique was like Space Skip, only that his body turns incorporeal and teleports in a complex manner. It was more of a technique than a skill. As he performed Void Step, he also performed Star Sword Technique Level 1, inputting mana.
"Too bad I can't show all my skills—I could have killed this thing in a second," Ethan thought while running with half of his speed. He flew to the back of the beast and stabbed it hard, dragging the sword upward. The beast's intestines gutted out. Large chunks of guts fell, bathing the street with blood.
Boom!
The beast's body landed flat on the ground.
"What—" all the awakened were shocked. Before they could blink, Ethan had already disappeared.
"Where did he go? Is he an Ascended in disguise?" a man asked.
"No way. Ascended are popular on New Eden—I could count all of them with my two hands," the arrogant girl said.
"Maybe he is a new Ascended," the first girl speculated.
"Quick, let's move to the next street—mutant beasts are rampaging everywhere," the guy with yellow hair said.
Ethan stood atop the building looking at the awakened.
"Eh, Ascended? I am just an early awakened according to my system," Ethan laughed.
*Attention awakened: A humanoid sacred beast has been sighted, please proceed to the hole to stop the beast from moving further. The speaker boomed again.*
Ethan flew from building to building looking for his next target. "A humanoid sacred beast? Good, I could sell its sacred core for a good price," Ethan said, sliding down and dodging flying debris.
"That was rude," Ethan said as he saw a 6-armed sacred beast climb up the side of a building and hurling debris at him.
"Get out," Ethan grunted as he performed Space Skip and First Dragon Subduing Palm.
Boom!
The wall shifted as the beast was smudged all over the wall.
[Sacred Beast — Six-Armed Webbed Insect, Level 9 killed]
[20 exp gained]
[Rank: Awakened Level 10 — 220/20000 exp]
"Damn, that was a surprise. So only sacred beasts can give me exp now," Ethan said.
Boom boom boom
Ethan performed Space Skip as he saw a group fighting a dozen ant mutant beasts, all headed by an ant-type sacred beast.
Boom!
A huge hole appeared on top of the ant's head as it slumped to the ground.
"What was that?!" all the awakened looked in shock, but they didn't find any source.
"Forget that—let's get rid of these beasts," a girl said.
[Sacred Beast — Soldier Ant Beast King, Level 9 killed]
[20 exp gained]
Ethan appeared in an office building as he adjusted his balance.
"Damn, I need to minimize the way I use my powers—it costs so much mana."
Now his mana was cut by 20; he only had 30 left, and it would take him an hour to recover to peak.
Tadadadadada—
Ethan ran on a hospital building, dodging obstacles with his top speed. He was moving with dead precision.
Booooooommm!
An explosion sounded on the third floor of the hospital building. He saw an awakened battling a sacred beast alone.
"Gods, this guy is strong," Ethan was amazed. The sacred beast was huge and bulky, with 3 arms and 1 eye.
The guy had brown hair and red eyes. He was brandishing a spear in his hands and was fighting with a Rank A technique, if Ethan's memory served him right.
Bang bang bang!
The beast and man entered a rough fight. The beast was brutish and was using formidable strength to weigh down the guy.
Slap! Booooom!
The guy received a slap on his chest as he coughed blood and crashed into a canteen.
Ethan wanted to jump in but he sensed something.
Brackk!
The guy jumped out.
"No way… a Rank 3 armor? This guy must be rich." Ethan smelt money.
