Shiro:
Uhm, hey, listen up, guys.
Kaede looked into my eyes – somehow not as unmotivated as I'd expected.
I stared at him, confused.
Normally, he'd never come along, and now he's standing here with Ichigo, who suddenly wants to train?
I looked at him with mixed feelings.
My fingers clenched without me noticing.
Then I looked at Ichigo.
My heart started pounding faster – what an angel.
But wasn't Kaede just with her recently?
And now he's bringing her to training – the training he never attends?
My legs trembled.
I didn't know how to react.
This can't be happening.
I looked again at Ichigo's face – she smiled awkwardly and was tying her hair into a ponytail.
Right next to her stood Kaede.
I rubbed my eyes. A dream?
No, he's not seriously…
My eyes wandered to Yuna and Riku.
Riku looked just as confused as I was.
Now he was looking at me.
I quickly moved closer to him.
"Are you thinking what I'm thinking?"
"Yeah."
Okay, it's official:
If that idiot is thinking the same thing, then it has to be true.
But this is a nightmare.
I wasn't happy.
I didn't want to believe it and hoped it wasn't true.
My toes curled, and I couldn't look away.
Even my breathing got heavier.
Kaede:
Omg, that face Shiro is making – hilarious.
What's he thinking right now?
"Ohhh no, Kaede's with my crush."
Hahaha.
I grinned.
I'm happy if Shiro isn't.
Fact.
"Hey, Kaede…" Riku suddenly called out to the group.
What does that idiot want now?
"Are you and Ichigo a couple?"
Why the hell is he asking that so loudly in front of everyone?
I rolled my eyes in a full circle while fixing my hair with my hand.
Then I began:
"Of course not—"
Ow, what the hell was that?!
I looked annoyed into Ichigo's eyes – they told me she was planning something dumb.
Out of fear, I stepped back.
"Kaede, you don't have to hide the truth anymore. It's okay."
Shiro:
What's that supposed to mean?
Kaede:
Excuse me, what?!
Oh no, please, please, PLEASE don't!
I stepped back in shock again.
My defense stance now looked like a cornered cat. Reflex.
"It's time we told them.
Riku, you were right – Kaede and I are a couple."
WHAT?
I-I...
I saw Ichigo's eyes staring at me like the devil himself.
If I say anything now, I'm dead.
She'll pull her finisher move, and that's it.
There goes my peaceful life.
I'll end up enslaved in the military.
Ichigo pulled me close and whispered in my ear:
"You'll play along – or you know what happens."
My expression dropped.
Hope – well, what hope?
I knew this wasn't going to end well, but this...
this is too much.
Inside, I cried.
My soul left my body, waved at me one last time, and then fell off the ceiling after hitting it on the way down.
I want to die.
I looked at Ichigo one more time.
Maybe she'd show mercy. Maybe she changed her mind.
Nope, there it was again –
That "Say something and I'll kill you" look.
But don't worry, Ichigo –
I've got a feeling Shiro will handle that.
I glanced to my right –
AHH!
I flinched and stepped back into a defensive stance. Reflex.
Just as I thought.
Shiro's empty gaze pierced through me, and Riku shook his head in disappointment
as if he were the victim.
Sorry to disappoint, buddy:
I'm the victim here. ME!
A bead of sweat ran down my face.
How am I supposed to survive this?
And then there was Yuna, who – once again – couldn't hold back her laughter.
Great.
The only one who knows the truth is laughing her ass off.
I yanked at my hair in frustration.
What is this?!
What did I ever do to those two?
"Uhm... hmm, I think we should postpone training for another time," Riku cleared his throat nervously and gave a fake smile.
Shiro watched me like a ghost as he followed Riku out of the room.
Then suddenly, he grabbed me by the arm – so tight I couldn't shake him off.
My blood froze.
This was worse than a horror movie.
His face was blank. Emotionless.
"You, Shiro... it's fine. You've got it all wrong," I said with an unsure voice, trying to lighten the mood with a smile.
Shiro:
"Kaede…" he now whispered flatly,
"Don't think you'll be seeing daylight tomorrow.
You're dead. Got it?
Dead. After what you did to me."
Kaede:
It's fine, Shiro… I know.
Thanks to Ichigo.
About ten seconds passed – the longest of my life.
Then he let go of my hand.
I touched the spot where he'd held me.
Numb.
How strong is he?
Then I collapsed to my knees in desperation.
I needed those few seconds – and then I made my decision:
Yep. GG. I'm out.
I'm going home now and enjoying life before I get murdered.
At least I'll die well-rested.
"I'll be leaving too, Ichigo. Thanks for everything.
See you – let me think... NEVER AGAINNNNN."
Most people would think:
"Oh, he could just join the military – he'd be safe from Shiro there."
But no.
I'd rather die than go into the military.
Besides, the way I see it:
I'm dead anyway.
So why not chill a little longer?
I grinned and was just about to leave the room.
Aside from my suicidal thoughts, I was also extremely pissed because everything was so stressful.
Ichigo watched me with a confused expression.
Then she smiled and gave me a proud thumbs-up.
My jaw dropped in disbelief.
I give up.
Ichigo:
"What's wrong with him…?"
Kaede:
Before I go –
Why'd you do that?
Wasn't your plan...
No, never mind.
Actually, I don't even care anymore.
I'm done.
Or, in words you'll understand, psycho:
I'm breaking up.
Bye.
Ichigo:
But Kaede-dear, if you do that, the military will come.
Kaede:
Don't care.
Ichigo:
Are you sure?
Kaede:
Yes, you lunatic
