Alexei stared at the table as if Elijah had conjured it out of thin air.
What was supposed to be a quick bite before bed had turned into a small feast.
There was stir‑fried beef glistening with garlic, sauteed zucchini and bell peppers still steaming, a golden mound of garlic‑butter rice, and a neat little plate of soy‑marinated eggs.
Elijah slipped a bowl of rice toward him, "Eat up before it gets cold."
"Wow... So, you not only know how to fight with ghosts but can cook too. What are you trying to achieve? Haven't I asked you on a date already?"
Elijah found everything about Alexei funny. The way he was trying so hard to bring that canceled date, while he had no real intention of dating.
What an amusing fool.
Elijah was born a little broken from the inside. And he was well aware his personality was rather unapproachable, steely. Oftentimes, it even came off as uncaring.
So, he knew he wasn't a lovable person. Nor was he someone who could just attract anyone's attention.
