Chapter 4 - Awaken

Ever wake up and say to yourself, damn that dream was fun. Not that it was fun actually but it gave me goosebumps, I give it that. Then I toss around and …. Well my happiness is short lived. Besides noticing a diary beside my cellphone, comes the final downpour upon me that yep, yesterday was real.

Get this straight, it was intriguing and I was yet to believe that everything that lady, what was her name again? Anyways it'll come back later its not like it matters. Well at that moment I assured myself that it was just a prank , get it maybe someone who knew I've lost my 2 Dads in a span of five years decided to play a prank on me.A lot of names entered my head as I tried to guess who and I ended up letting it slip.

So I got up and ignored the diary right up. Well the only thing that was letting me from burning all the letters and diaries, anyways just anything with David's with handwriting was I knew I'll be able to salvage a handful of stories worth writing.

Even now, nothing refreshes me like a morning cup of coffee and that's what I did right then, drowned myself in coffee. I had nothing better to do, being the son of someone who left me a big inheritance and truthfully I'd be lying to say I had any idea how much it was but it was enough, not necessarily my words, the attorney had said so.

The talk with Mara was still fresh in my head then, just that I didn't believe it. I was already trying to create an arc around it to write a story, well of course it's what writers do and trust me, then I was a writer not this.

So I got in my car and hit the road. I was planning on getting some groceries and besides living alone had its demerits, I was also trying to see people. The only think I like about this home is David had chosen a peri-urban society, free from city noise but now that I was alone, I realised how much I needed just even a few unfriendly faces to see.

The part of shopping don't matter except that of course there was a child who wandered off and so I was caught in the mall for a full two hours before we were allowed to go out.

I tried calling my guys but like I said, noone had a knack to visit me, my home was just far and truthfully that day even an idea to sell the house came. I even wrote it on my TO-DO list that I had to get the house appraised.

The only thing worse than seeing a ghost in your home is seeing a live person and trust me, I nearly wet my pants that day. I got well and unlocked the door and dropped everything in the kitchen. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary. Truthfully, I never bothered to check but trust me, the door was locked as I had left it. So here's a guy who was delayed by two hours in a mall, without even anything to do. I was bored, the day wasn't even going well and the only appealing then was to drown myself in David's handwriting. Just imagine the shock when I entered David's office to see a guy sitting in my seat. I don't know if it was the fact that he said,"Hi Adrian" or the fact that he was reading one of the my novels that I had not even planned to publish.

You may wander how I acted but I stayed at the door. To his greeting, I only nodded. Just imagine, a stranger, in my house, in my office, reading my novel and worse he was waiting for me. Seeing no abrupt movement on his side, it was up to me to break the silence.

"To whom do I owe the pleasure"

He put the book down and laughed, "Well classic greeting I see, anyways a nice piece of writing it is." He did not answer but instead stared at me and added, " Hope you don't mind a smoke. Do you?"

"Only if you open the window"

"I see…." He got up and went to open the window and I took that chance to go round and sit on the vacated chair. I thought being in my chair would give me a sense of authority and being the host.

He did two puffs then put it in the ashtray. He looked at me closely and it got into my nerves because now the whole issue of The Order and Mara came to me. He had to be part of The Order. " So the whole window thing was about me getting out of the chair? You have a very polite way of saying it"

"What can I say, my office, my chair, my house and an uninvited guest, not my guest. I just wanted to be closer the revolver in the desk" I patted the top of the desk.

He grinned at me, then pulled out two guns and put them on the desk. Mind you, that was the very first time I was seeing a gun up close." David never kept guns and I doubt you do…" he paused and stared out the window, but I'm pretty sure when he had mentioned this about David there was a subtle tone of hurt in his voice. He turned back at me then continued, " …allow me to introduce myself and I hope you forgive me for entering your house without permission. But surely, all will be revealed in the fullness of time. And don't worry, I haven't forgotten your first question"
