I died—no hero’s sacrifice, no tragic backstory. Just a traffic light, a careless step, and boom. I thought that was it. Until I woke up... in his world. This isn't your average reincarnation. This is Mushoku Tensei—a world that’s already twisted, brutal, and unforgiving. But I’m not Rudeus. I wasn’t even meant to be here. No cheats. No system. No chosen one prophecy. Just my memories, my fear, and a second chance that someone else was supposed to get. Now I’m walking a path that was never mine, rewriting a story I already know... but can’t predict.

Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Prologue

Night fell.

Distant lights flickered faintly.

A gentle night breeze brushed past the young man as he quietly gazed at the moon hanging far away.

The hazy moonlight spilled down, casting a soft glow over the street before him.

He took out his phone, somewhat troubled. It was newly bought not long ago, but now two lines of text stood out clearly on the screen:

[Do you want to understand the meaning of life? Do you want to truly live?][Yes / Yes]

The young man's name was Jiang Feng. Eighteen years old, from China.

He had just finished the college entrance exam and was waiting for his admission results. His family wasn't rich but lived comfortably his parents were alive and well, though often away for work.

Life, overall, was good.

And that's exactly why he didn't want to know the meaning of life. He wasn't interested in playing hero for some mysterious higher being.

Yet these two options on his phone screen left him both amused and speechless.

He himself likes surfing the Internet, and these two sentences have been widely used on certain Chinese websites.

He had imagined such scenarios before but now that it was really happening, he found himself hesitating.

He even wondered if it was some kind of hacker's virus waiting to bait a naïve teenager into clicking, just to steal their WeChat and bank account.

After hesitating over and over… he still didn't click.

No matter how you look at it, not clicking felt safer.

So the phone screen stayed lit like that since last night. Thanks to it, Jiang Feng hadn't used his phone all day.

He tried borrowing other people's phones but whenever he held one, the screen would go black and display the exact same two lines.

Jiang Feng fell into deep thought.

He pondered silently. Completely lost.

Once again, the question stared him down:

Should he click?

It really felt like something bad would happen if he did. Especially since the options were, yes and the other is yes, like signing some kind of soul-binding contract.

Without realizing it, he wandered along the quiet street beneath the night sky.

But in the next moment, he no longer had to worry.

A portal from another world disguised as a speeding vehicle rushed toward him at breakneck speed.

He barely had time to react.

The violent force of the impact shattered everything.

With a screech of metal and the sound of tearing air, Jiang Feng was hurled through the night sky like a kite with its string cut.

Pain surged instantly.

His consciousness was drowned in misery and then, he blacked out completely.

He never even saw where that "car" came from. It was like it appeared out of nowhere.

At that speed, something should've made noise in the still night but he hadn't heard a thing.

It had simply… emerged from the void.

When Jiang Feng opened his eyes again, the world was pure white.

He blinked in confusion.

Mist swirled around him thick, greyish-white fog that blurred everything beyond sight.

He checked his limbs everything seemed intact.

None of the horrible injuries you'd expect from a traffic accident.

Taking a cautious step forward, his foot touched the endless white, and ripples spread from beneath him.

Jiang Feng frowned, deep in thought. As expected…

He was probably dead.

How strange.

First, it was just a weird message on his phone. Now? A car from another world had practically come to pick him up.

Is this how easy transmigration is these days?

Are they so desperate now that they can't even wait for your consent? Do they have performance targets to hit for each soul they grab?

But seriously... what now?

He tried to speak, but no sound came out.

Well, he was speaking—but not a single sound could be heard. It was like… this whole place was a vacuum.

Jiang Feng glanced around, confused.

He waited. No mysterious higher being showed up, no goddess claiming to be Aqua either.

He was getting a little annoyed.

"You're the one who dragged me here, and now you can't even bother to show up? Not even one so-called senior to guide me?"

He grumbled inwardly.

In the end, he just gave up and started walking nowhere in particular.

The world was endless and blinding white.

He was the only one there.

No voices. No figures. Just himself. Walking alone through silence.

Time passed, or maybe it didn't. He didn't know how far he had walked or for how long.

And just when loneliness began to creep into his heart when silence turned to stillness, and stillness into fear. He kept walking, wordless.

Step by step.

There was no sound, no life.

Everything was white. Lifeless. Still. Colorless.

Just silence.

Was this… it?

Jiang Feng gave a tired little smile.

He had arrived. But there was no god, no message. Only this blank world stretching endlessly around him.

He felt drained. Worn out.

He just wanted to sit down.

So he did. The moment he sat, the white space beneath him rippled like water.

He looked around again.

Still white. Still quiet. Still empty.

It was like a blank canvas, waiting for the artist to splash color across it. Like a brand-new book, waiting for someone to write the first word.

A wild thought crossed his mind. There's no god. No goddess.

Could it be… he was the one meant to write this world into existence?

He began to remember. The night before the accident.

The city under the veil of night, glowing neon lights scattered across the darkness. The streets were quiet now, most people gone just a few drunk men stumbling along.Leaves rustled in the night breeze, whispering softly like secrets.

Tall buildings lit up like castles in the sky.Shops had closed for the day, only a few late-night stalls still open, filling the air with tempting smells of grilled food.

A stray cat padded out from a corner, silently sniffing around a trash bin. It licked something with a quiet "slurp."In the distance, a dog barked, shattering the silence of the night.

He had been walking quietly through it all.

The stars shimmered overhead, like diamonds scattered across a velvet sky.The moon peeked through the clouds, casting a soft glow.Somewhere, a nightingale sang, its song echoing through the cool air.

That city under the night sky… it felt like a mysterious world of its own so full of wonder and dreams. It made him feel calm… and a little bit lonely.

Then.. everything changed.

The white world shattered. He looked up.The blank sky had turned black, painted with the moon's soft silver light. The once-empty streets lit up with life.A black-and-white cat appeared at his feet.

And like ripples in water, the world around him began to bloom,Piece by piece, moment by moment And Jiang Feng just stood there, watching.

The loneliness faded.The fear vanished.

In its place… was curiosity.A deep, irresistible sense of wonder.
