Kai
Celeste scoffed, but I could hear the pain behind the sound. "Same here, Mom. I wish you were never my mother. You're an evil, vile woman who wants to control everything. You're the reason why Kai cannot be with his mate. You're not a good mother and you never will be."
Without warning, Celeste thumped on the roof of the van with her fist, shouting at the top of her voice, "Stop this car now!"
I immediately reached toward the divider and tapped on it three times—our family's signal for an emergency stop. The car came to a halt so quickly that we all lurched forward slightly.
Before I could react, Celeste was opening the door and climbing out. I tried to reach for her hand to stop her, but she shook me off.
When I looked at her face, I saw the brightness in her eyes that she always got when she was fighting back tears—a look I remembered from our childhood when her and my mom had just had a face off.
