Chapter 33: Event-Limited

"Did you hear? This morning, All Might took down a villain that even Kamui Woods and Mt. Lady couldn't handle—with just one hand chop!"

"They say he coolly declared, 'It's all fine now. Why? Because I was just passing by on my way to work!'"

Izuku Midoriya and his classmates were buzzing about a news alert on their phones. On their way to school, All Might had already resolved multiple cases, like some omnipresent "friendly neighborhood Spider-Man."

After yesterday's chaos, Yoshikage Kira had a sudden urge to check the school's front gate. There, he saw Cementoss repairing the U.A. Barrier. Cementoss's Quirk let him freely manipulate cement, softening or hardening it at will.

Watching Cementoss work, Kira felt a chill.

His earlier guess was wrong. The gate wasn't breached from the inside—someone had destroyed it from the outside. The U.A. Barrier was incredibly dense; even All Might would need multiple punches to break it, and that would draw attention from the noise.

To silently destroy the barrier? In Kira's mind, not even the top heroes on the rankings could pull that off.

U.A. was being targeted—that was the only explanation.

Despite knowing this, Kira couldn't do anything. He just went to school as usual, reassuring himself that the teachers were aware and had defenses in place.

In the afternoon, Hero Basics class.

"Today's Hero Basics lesson will be supervised by me, All Might, and another teacher," Shota Aizawa said, holding up a sign reading "Rescue." "The theme is rescue training for disasters like floods and other emergencies."

So the school's response is more teachers… Kira felt a bit let down, but it was probably the best call without knowing the enemy's moves. U.A.'s teachers were all pro heroes with vast experience—more than enough to handle petty threats.

Pushing down his unease, Kira listened as Aizawa continued.

"You can choose your gear based on your judgment. There should be event-limited outfits available. The training ground's a bit far, so meet at the school building's entrance. We'll take a bus. Get ready."

Rescue training was a core part of being a pro hero—and one of the most critical. Not every moment involved fighting robbers. Everyday disasters like fires and floods were what pros dealt with most often.

Heck, even All Might helped grannies cross the street… though he did it by carrying them straight to the other side.

In short, pro heroes were like China's firefighters, handling daily community tasks. Being approachable was part of the hero metric, after all.

So… what should I wear?

Kira's Chaldea combat suit was mobile and defensive, but it was designed for battle, not disasters. It lacked cooling or heating features. In a fire, he'd probably roast.

With that in mind, Kira waited for others to pick their gear and headed to the event-limited costume section.

As a Master, he had zero resistance to anything labeled "event-limited"…

Snicker, snicker…

Even with her hands over her mouth, the laughter was unmistakable.

Kira turned, flipping up his mask, and said calmly, "Ashido, if you want to laugh, just laugh. No need to hide it."

"Hahaha… sorry!" Mina Ashido dropped her hands, wiping tears of laughter. "I just didn't expect you, our class president, to wear a full-on firefighter suit, haha!"

"What's wrong with it?"

Kira inspected himself: helmet, mask, fireproof suit, gloves, breathing gear, fire-resistant boots, and a fireproof rope at his waist. He was completely encased in the slightly bulky suit. If the equipment room had a fire axe or radio, he'd have grabbed those too.

"Nothing's wrong… it's just a bit too serious?" Ochaco Uraraka said, smiling wryly at Kira's gear. "Compared to us…"

Uraraka wore her tight combat suit, with oversized leg gear for mid-air balance. Ashido sported a flashy, low-cut outfit with a fur shawl, looking like a delinquent street girl—a style Kira couldn't quite stomach.

"Iida, isn't that combat suit hot?"

Tenya Iida, ever the dutiful vice-president, stood beside Kira in his knight-like gear.

"Firefighter suits may look hot, but they're well-insulated. They're just a bit stuffy. Your suit looks way hotter," Kira said.

"No worries!" Iida removed his helmet, flashing a thumbs-up with a grin. "This suit's made by the same company as my brother's. It's designed to work with my Engine Quirk, venting heat through the exhaust pipes."

"No problem! Iida's brother is…" Uraraka glanced at Iida, continuing after his nod, "the Turbo Hero, Ingenium!"

Ingenium was a popular hero with dozens of sidekicks, employed by a Tokyo agency. Not the strongest, but his fierce sense of justice and hatred of evil made him widely loved.

"Oh," Kira said flatly.

"Huh? That's it? He's a pro hero!" Uraraka pouted, annoyed at Kira's calm reaction.

What's there to say? Kira glanced at Shoto Todoroki. The son of the No. 2 hero, Endeavor, was right here in their class.

Todoroki sat on a planter, not in his usual SEAL-like combat suit but in casual athletic wear, revealing the half of his face usually covered by ice.

Midoriya was also in athletic wear, his combat suit tattered from battle and sent to the support company for repairs.

Katsuki Bakugo strutted over in his ferocious-looking combat suit, bursting into laughter. "Hahaha, what's wrong with your brain, wearing that stupid outfit?"

"This outfit's worth way more than your cheap gear. In a disaster, are you trying to save people or blow them up?" Kira shot back.

Aizawa walked over, glancing at Kira's outfit with surprise, rubbing his eyes as if he'd seen wrong.

"The bus is here," Iida announced, stepping up as vice-president and pulling out a whistle.

"Class 1-A, assemble! To board orderly, line up in two rows by student number."

Kira looked at Iida, impressed. Having someone else take charge without him saying a word? This feels great…

Iida, you're too useful.
