Chapter 3 - The Plan

After discussing arranged marriages yesterday, Antonio is currently out of town, as usual, for business trips. Meanwhile, Justus's condition has improved; he can now walk normally and even accompanies little Gaizel in reading books in the garden with his daughter, Augusta. It's truly harmonious, isn't it?

Two days later, in the capital city of Bizzarian, a vassal working for the Maurius family named Titus is taking the Maurius family's heir, Gaizel, on a stroll through the city.

They're walking through the bustling streets, admiring the city's advanced infrastructure and magnificent buildings, including the market, palace, and city hall. Geustania is renowned for its impressive infrastructure and beautiful architecture.

As they pass by the city hall, they notice a large crowd gathered in front of the building. Little Gaizel is fascinated by the scene, seemingly witnessing something extraordinary. It turns out that the crowd is watching a group of philosophers and scholars from neighboring countries and within the nation, who have gathered to observe a prominent philosopher named Desmond.

As an aristocrat, Gaizel rarely gets to experience such events, having been confined to the mansion and living a sheltered life.

Gaizel is overjoyed, thrilled to see the outside world in all its beauty for the first time.

"Young Master, are you enjoying yourself?" Titus asks Gaizel, whose eyes are wide with wonder.

"Yes, Titus... can you bring me out like this again sometime?"

"Of course, as long as Master Justus approves."

As they head back home, passing through vast wheat fields, Gaizel notices many farmers hard at work.

"Titus, do farmers always work this hard?"

"Yes, they are hardworking individuals and unsung heroes of the nation. Without them, the bread we take for granted wouldn't exist. Simple things like this often go unnoticed by the wealthy and greedy. They are the backbone of our society, often underappreciated. The world is vast, Young Master; it's not just about one thing. It revolves and benefits all living creatures."

"Truly, words of meaning," Titus, a loyal vassal to his lord, said with a broad perspective on the world. He embodied the definition of a true man who never underestimated small things.

"You're right, Titus. I thought they were free people, and I hope one day I can be like them," Gaizel said.

Titus smiled, looking at Gaizel and then gazing at the sky, a truly beautiful moment.

After returning from a journey, Gaizel was reading a book in his room.

Knock! Knock! Knock!

Someone knocked on Gaizel's door, and it was Justus, who wanted to talk to Gaizel. Justus seemed different now, no longer solely focused on his manuscript and more attentive to his surroundings.

"Gaizel, aren't you asleep yet?"

"Not yet, Father. I'm reading a book. Oh, Father, did you know? When I went to the capital with Titus, we saw a group of people learning and seemed very interested in listening to someone speak."

"Oh, who was it?"

"Desmond. Titus told me he's a philosopher. By the way, what's a philosopher?"

"Hmm, a philosopher? A philosopher is someone who studies the meaning or purpose of life. They're considered both crazy and intelligent. According to Father, they're a group of people who know their true selves."

"Hmm, Titus also said that-"

"Wait, if you already know, why are you asking Father?"

"You little scamp."

They continued to bond like father and son, a truly heartwarming moment to behold.

Meanwhile, Octavius, who had previously done business with the Maurius family and had a dispute over land sales, still seemed upset.

He was the type of person who wouldn't hesitate to lash out if his demands were rejected.

Octavius was meeting with an unexpected guest, Artorius, to discuss something. Artorius's visit was at Octavius's invitation, and it seemed there was something they wanted to discuss.

"Artorius, son of the renowned Duke Lucius De Castus. It's nice to meet you, and I'm glad you accepted my invitation."

"Ah, it's no trouble. My visit is also to discuss something with you, and—"

"Really? Oh, how lucky I am!"

"Ahem, it seems impolite to interrupt someone's conversation."

"Hmm... Alright, let's get to the point. Have you ever heard of someone named Desmond?"

"Yes, of course. A philosopher, right?"

"Exactly. Yesterday, when I went to the city hall, I heard that he was murdered, and rumor has it that he was killed by the king's henchmen."

"The reason might be because he and his followers spread teachings that were considered heretical by the king, even contradicting the religion."

After hearing the news, Artorius and Octavius looked at each other, and it seemed that there was something connecting their thoughts.

"So that's what you meant. Haha, I like your plan," Artorius said.

"True! Besides, they were the ones who wanted this to happen," Octavius replied.

Their conversation continued, but the specifics of their plan were still unknown.

Two weeks later, the entire Maurius family gathered in the garden to celebrate Antonio's birthday. The atmosphere was joyful, with servants busy cooking in the kitchen and the Maurius family seated at a large table with a breathtaking view of the vast fields.

"Happy birthday, Grandfather!" The congratulations were shouted loudly, adding to the sense of togetherness, laughter, and happiness.

"Happy birthday, Father! Sorry we're saying it directly; we should have waited until the food was served."

Antonio paused for a moment, then put his hand on his son's shoulder. "Justus, forgive me, Father, for treating you harshly all these years."

"It's okay, Father. I know it was for my own good, as your heir."

This was a touching moment; Antonio shed tears, and it was the first time Justus had seen him cry.

"Happy birthday, Mr. Antonio!" It seemed that the loyal servants also gave their congratulations.

"Once again, happy birthday, Mr. Antonio! We hope you remain healthy and continue to guide our family," said Mrs. Cornelia, the most loyal servant in the family.

"Thank you, everyone... You're my only family."

Everyone cheered, and finally, the delicious food that had been waiting on the table was about to be enjoyed by the whole family.
