Chapter 44 - Hehe! I maybe be nine but I am 100 years smarter and ahead of you

As Wren emerged from the cave, she was met with an eerie silence. The air was thick with tension, and she could sense that something was off. Suddenly, she was surrounded by men in black, their faces obscured by masks. They were dressed in tactical gear, and their eyes seemed to bore into her very soul.

Wren's instincts kicked in, and she reached for her grappling hook, ready to defend herself. But the men didn't seem to be hostile, at least not yet. They surrounded her, forming a tight circle around her.

"Who are you?" Wren demanded, trying to keep her voice steady.

One of the men stepped forward, his mask glinting in the sunlight. "We're from a...private organization," he said, his voice low and gravelly. "We've been watching you, Wren. We're interested in the minerals you collected."

Wren's eyes narrowed. "What do you want with them?"

The man smiled, a cold, calculating smile. "Let's just say that we're willing to make it worth your while. We're prepared to offer you a substantial amount of money for the minerals. More than you could ever hope to get from selling them on the open market."

Wren's mind was racing. Who were these men, and what did they want with the minerals? She didn't trust them, but the offer was tempting. She could use the money to fund for her laptop and maybe even get ahead in the academy.

But something didn't feel right. Wren's instincts were screaming at her to be cautious. She decided to play it cool, to see what the men would do next.

"I'm not sure," Wren said, trying to sound nonchalant. "I'll need to think about it."

The man's smile grew wider. "I don't think that's an option, Wren. You see, we're not really asking. We're more...demanding."

Wren's heart sank. She knew she was in trouble.

Suddenly Wren's eyes flashed with determination as she assessed the situation. She knew she couldn't take on all the men at once, but she wasn't one to back down from a fight. She subtly shifted her weight, preparing to make a move.

"I think I'll have to decline your offer," Wren said, her voice firm. "I'm not interested in doing business with people who don't respect my autonomy."

The man's smile faltered for a moment, and Wren saw a glimmer of surprise in his eyes. But he quickly regained his composure.

"I think you'll find that you don't have a choice," he said, his voice dripping with menace. "You'll do what we say, or...well, let's just say that you won't be leaving this place alive."

Wren snorted, a fierce glint in her eye. "You think you can intimidate me? I've faced worse odds and come out on top. I'm not afraid of you."

The man's eyes narrowed, and he took a step closer to Wren. "We'll see about that," he sneered.

Without warning, Wren sprang into action. She used her grappling hook to swing herself up and over the men, landing behind them. She quickly dispatched a few of them with her agility and quick reflexes, but there were too many of them. She knew she couldn't keep this up for much longer.

Just as she was starting to get overwhelmed, Wren remembered the minerals in her bag. She had a sudden idea. With a swift motion, she reached into her bag and grabbed a handful of the minerals. She threw them at the men, creating a cloud of sparkling dust that temporarily blinded them.

Seizing the opportunity, Wren made a run for it. She sprinted across the landscape, the men hot on her heels. But Wren was a skilled runner, and she knew the terrain. She dodged rocks and leapt over crevices, her agility and quick thinking allowing her to stay one step ahead of her pursuers.

As she ran, Wren's heart pounded in her chest. She knew she couldn't keep this up for much longer. She needed a plan, and fast. But for now, she just focused on putting as much distance between herself and the men as possible.
