Chapter 43 - 886, that my number

As Wren gazed at the glowing minerals, her frustration grew. The rope had reached its limit, and she was still a few feet away from the precious minerals. She examined the wall, searching for any handholds or footholds that could help her descend further. The cold, damp air clung to her skin, and the pungent smell made her stomach churn.

"Bilharzia, can you suggest any solutions?" Wren asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

The system responded promptly, "Master, I can suggest a few options. You can use your grappling hook to swing down to the mineral, or try to find another route down. However, be cautious, as the cave is unstable, and any wrong move could trigger a collapse."

Wren's eyes lit up as she considered the options. She had a grappling hook in her equipment, and it might just do the trick. She carefully retrieved the hook from her backpack and prepared to use it.

As she swung the hook down, it latched onto a rocky outcropping, and Wren pulled herself down, her heart racing with excitement and fear. She finally reached the minerals, and her eyes widened as she gazed at their beauty.

But as she reached out to collect the minerals, she heard a faint rumbling sound. The ground began to shake, and Wren's heart sank. She had triggered a collapse.

The rumbling sound grew louder, and the ground shook more violently. Wren's heart was racing as she quickly assessed the situation. She knew she had to act fast if she wanted to survive. The minerals, which had seemed so precious just moments before, were now a secondary concern. Her priority was getting out of the cave alive.

With a surge of adrenaline, Wren grabbed the minerals and stuffed them into her bag. She didn't have time to examine them further, but she knew she had to get out of there before the cave collapsed completely.

As she pulled herself up using the grappling hook, the shaking intensified. Rocks and debris began to fall from the ceiling, and Wren ducked to avoid being hit. She pulled herself up as fast as she could, her muscles straining with the effort.

Finally, she reached the top of the hole and pulled herself to safety just as the cave behind her collapsed in a cloud of dust and debris. Wren coughed, covering her mouth with her shirt. She stumbled away from the hole, her eyes scanning the area to make sure she was safe.

As the dust settled, Wren looked down at her bag, her heart still racing from the close call. She had gotten the minerals, but at what cost? The cave was now impassable, and she had narrowly escaped with her life.

"Bilharzia, can you assess the minerals I collected?" Wren asked, her voice still shaking slightly.

The system responded, "Master, the minerals you collected are of high value. They are a rare type of crystal that can be used in advanced technology and magic. You should be able to sell them for a significant amount of points or cash."

Wren's eyes lit up as she considered the possibilities. She had taken a huge risk, but it seemed like it might just pay off. Now, she just had to get out of the cave and back to the academy without any further mishaps.

...

As Wren emerged from the cave, she was met with an eerie silence. The air was thick with tension, and she could sense that something was off. Suddenly, she was surrounded by men in black, their faces obscured by masks. They were dressed in tactical gear, and their eyes seemed to bore into her very soul.

Wren's instincts kicked in, and she reached for her grappling hook, ready to defend herself. But the men didn't seem to be hostile, at least not yet. They surrounded her, forming a tight circle around her.

"Who are you?" Wren demanded, trying to keep her voice steady.

One of the men stepped forward, his mask glinting in the sunlight. "We're from a...private organization," he said, his voice low and gravelly. "We've been watching you, Wren. We're interested in the minerals you collected."

Wren's eyes narrowed. "What do you want with them?"

The man smiled, a cold, calculating smile. "Let's just say that we're willing to make it worth your while. We're prepared to offer you a substantial amount of money for the minerals. More than you could ever hope to get from selling them on the open market."

Wren's mind was racing. Who were these men, and what did they want with the minerals? She didn't trust them, but the offer was tempting. She could use the money to fund her studies and maybe even get ahead in the academy.

But something didn't feel right. Wren's instincts were screaming at her to be cautious. She decided to play it cool, to see what the men would do next.

"I'm not sure," Wren said, trying to sound nonchalant. "I'll need to think about it."

The man's smile grew wider. "I don't think that's an option, Wren. You see, we're not really asking. We're more...demanding."

Wren's heart sank. She knew she was in trouble.
