Chapter 31 - Fear that cooked me whole

As soon as Kai's voice whispered "Run" in her ears, Wren felt an inexplicable jolt of adrenaline coursing through her veins. She couldn't quite discern whether it was Kai or Kuro who spoke, but the urgency in the tone was unmistakable. Without hesitation, she turned and sprinted down the corridor, her footsteps echoing off the walls.

The darkness seemed to close in around her, making it difficult to navigate the twisting corridors. Wren's heart pounded in her chest as she ran, her senses heightened. She could feel Kai's eyes on her, burning with an intensity that made her skin crawl.

As she glanced back, she caught a glimpse of Kai's face, his eyes glowing with a murderous intent that made her blood run cold. In that moment, Wren knew she was no match for him, not even with her skills and training. The look in his eyes was inhuman, almost demonic, and it sent a shiver down her spine.

Wren's breath came in ragged gasps as she ran, her mind racing with thoughts of escape. She knew the library was too far, and the darkness made it impossible to navigate. The dormitory was her only hope, but she was unsure if she'd make it there safely. The corridors seemed to stretch on forever, and Wren felt like she was being herded towards some unknown fate.

Her legs pumped furiously as she ran, her heart pounding in her chest. She could feel Kai's presence closing in around her, his eyes fixed on her like a predator stalking its prey. Wren knew she had to keep moving, had to find a safe place to hide. But where could she hide from someone like Kai, someone with eyes that seemed to burn with an inner fire?

...

Exhaustion hit Wren like a tidal wave, her legs trembling beneath her as she stopped to catch her breath. The heist and endless studying had taken its toll, leaving her drained of energy and sleep-deprived. Leaning against the cold wall, she slowly inhaled air, feeling it soothe her tense muscles. But her respite was short-lived, as she sensed Kai's shadow closing in.

In a blur of movement, Kai stood before her, his eyes blazing with a murderous intensity that made her heart skip a beat. The air around him seemed to vibrate with a killing aura, making Wren's skin crawl. But what sent a chill down her spine was the way he took deliberate steps towards her, his movements slow and calculated, as if warning her to run.

Wren's eyes darted frantically around her, searching for an escape route, but Kai had her cornered. The walls seemed to close in around her, trapping her in a prison of her own fear. She felt like a trapped animal, her heart racing with panic as she realized she was at Kai's mercy.

The silence between them was oppressive, heavy with unspoken threats. Wren's breath came in short gasps, her mind racing with thoughts of escape. But her legs felt like lead, refusing to budge as Kai's eyes seemed to bore into her very soul. She was frozen in place, unable to move or look away, as Kai's presence enveloped her like a dark shroud.
