Chapter 44 - LIGHT-HEARTED

Atlas took his time looking around the kitchen, opening cabinets and pulling drawers, just to familiarise himself with the position of everything he needed.

He grabbed two pans and a spatula, and returned to the counter.

"You haven't told me what you like, Aveline," he said.

"Sorry, I'm still stuck on the fact you want to cook for me. Do you even know how to cook?"

He chortled. "Me? I can do everything. Do you know how to cook?"

"A little." She gestured with her hand.

"That usually means you can't." He walked over to the refrigerator, and began to pull out everything useful he could find.

"Yeah, you're right," she admitted in earnest. "But, I know how to bake. That counts right?" She looked up enthusiastically, as if waiting for a pat on the shoulder.

"I guess it does." He shrugged.

It wasn't fully a compliment, still it was enough to get her to smile. She couldn't be more grateful to Theo for whatever he said to Atlas.
