Chapter 148: A Plan Within a Plan
By dawn, the Konoha Hundred had already set a large number of traps in the forest, but the Mist ninjas still hadn't arrived. It was obvious they had been delayed along the way, burning, killing, and looting. Unlike the Sunagakure ninjas, who at least understood sustainable development, the Mist ninjas were much more cruel. Disguised as pirates, they unleashed their repressed nature, enjoying killing for fun.
When they finally detected the movements of the Konoha Hundred, their relaxed state changed. They executed all the villagers they were using for entertainment, even the women. A bloody, iron-hard aura engulfed them.
Sasuke, watching them from Shirotaka's back, couldn't help but take a deep breath. The discipline of Kirigakure ninjas was, without a doubt, the best in the world. These more than two hundred men were a much greater threat than Ebizo's three-hundred-puppet army, especially with the Seven Ninja Swordsmen among them.
He saw that their commander belonged to the Kaguya clan. 'This is really difficult,' he thought. The Kaguya were war fanatics; negotiating peace would be impossible.
Still, he tried. "I am Umino Sasuke. Kirigakure Commander, can you approach to talk?"
"Bone Lance!" was the only reply.
The Kaguya commander launched a bone lance from the ground. Shirotaka easily dodged it.
"Kaguya Baizhan, you're not very good," sneered Kuriarare Kushimaru, one of the Seven Swordsmen. "Watch my tricks!"
He threw his long sword, Nuibari, towards the hawk. Shirotaka dodged it, but the needle-sword, controlled by a steel wire, arced and attacked again. Sasuke released his own chakra threads, changing the blade's trajectory and saving his mount.
"Since we can't negotiate, let's fight."
The Kaguya commander sent his air force to pursue them. After a long aerial battle in which Umino Sasuke and Uchiha Shun shot down most of them, they finally retreated.
The Kirigakure ninjas, after eliminating the stragglers, found the Konoha Hundred's trail and pursued them to a valley with a dam.
"Ao, the White Blood Demon really set a trap for you," the Kaguya commander said to his perception ninja, a young man with an eye patch named Ao.
Sasuke, from the sky, feigned sadness and performed the Tiger hand seal. "Explode!"
The detonating talisman hidden in the dam exploded. The retaining wall broke, and a small, harmless flood poured out.
"White Blood Demon, you can't escape!" the Kaguya commander laughed, believing he had uncovered the trick.
After crossing the river, the Kirigakure army continued the pursuit.
"Hahaha! The White Blood Demon has run out of tricks," the commander guffawed, seeing that the Konoha Hundred had escaped into the forest. It was early morning, and a dense mist covered the terrain. 'Escaping into a misty forest to fight Kirigakure ninjas... he has dug his own grave.'
