Johnson felt the pain; his head was throbbing, as if the hit had suddenly given him a headache.
But that wasn't even the end of this nightmare.
Johnson for some time now had been trying by all means to escape from Keal's grip, but it was impossible. Something wasn't right.
'Damn it, my powers, I can't use them, they are not working,' he thought. 'Could this be his doing, but how? How is that even possible?'
Johnson felt his heart sink into his stomach as the crushing reality of his situation sank in.
He was unable to use his mutation ability, the ability that had helped him numerous times, he was unable to use it now, why was that? He didn't know.
There were so many types of mutations and mutation pills all around the world, resulting in countless types of mutants.
For years, the only way a human could become a mutant was by absorbing a mutation pill.
There were two types of such pills. First, the Certain Mutation Pill, which could only be created after extensive study of a specific mutant or mutant core.
All the information gathered through the study would then be used to create a pill that would grant the consumer the exact ability for which the pill was made.
Most guilds, due to their immense resources, would sponsor the creation of a certain pill of their choice.
And from there they would give the pills to unmutated humans who joined their cause, thereby increasing the power of the guild and the faction.
An example was the Black Tigers Guild, owned by the military.
They had chosen the earth type mutation, and had sponsored the production, and now they were handing it to students for free, at least that's what the students thought.
In reality, the military had only given such pills to the students because they were in possession of every single information about the pill and the mutation.
Meaning, the military knew the earth mutation to their best ability; the tip of their fingers, techniques, ways to increase the strength of attacks, also the most important: how to increase the core stage.
If a person wanted such information they would have to be loyal to the military and they would have it easily.
Although some people with earth mutation didn't comply with the military and set on to move on their own.
Unfortunately, they would not be able to go so far, and even their technique would always pale in comparison to that of the military.
And then, there was the Random Mutation Pill, a pill that granted any random ability and mutation to the individual who consumed it.
The type of mutation one could get was unpredictable; it could literally be anything, ranging from well-known elemental mutations to unknown ones.
It was due to the random mutation pill that so many mutations existed worldwide, to the point that scientists couldn't even keep a record of every new mutation discovered.
Right now, Keal's mutation ability could be described as one of these unrecorded and unique mutant abilities. And what more could it do? Johnson had yet to find out.
Listening to the instructions from their leader, Brime, Prime, and Leo could be seen moving toward Fai's direction.
Large, evil grins stretched across their faces.
At that precise moment, Fai received a notification from his system.

Fai couldn't help but smile; the screen in front of him had just given him a quest, and it was an additional one, bringing him to a total of two ongoing quests.
Although the instructions weren't entirely clear, he was determined to do his best to complete it.
However, the quest itself wasn't the sole reason for his happiness.
Normally, even in video games, quests are given only if the game... or... system is certain of a victory, one way or another.
So, the fact that the system was giving him such a quest meant that it considered him strong enough to take them out.
Now, he had a concrete reason to fight. He had fought against this group before, but last time, he was merely fighting to survive. This time, it would be different.
He would fight not just to survive, but to win, to gain his rewards, and to level up as quickly as possible.
Leo quickly dashed forward, wasting no time. He was the first to charge, activating his mutation ability, channeling his energy toward his feet to boost his speed.
With that, he seemingly bounced off the ground and across the maze, heading straight for Fai, his hands outstretched.
He was building up momentum for his strike, channeling a little bit of his energy toward his fist.
His plan was to take out Fai in one hit, and for that, he had to deliver his strongest hit yet.
Fai could see Leo coming toward him in full force.
At such a speed, Fai wouldn't be fast enough to shift to the side in time, so all he could do was put his two hands in front of his face as he braced himself.
With that, the hit collided.
A cracking sound could be heard in the air as Fai's hands could be seen bending inward.
The hit had no mercy.
[-7 HP]
[HP: 13/20]
The system notified him of a huge loss of health points.
The strength from the attack was so powerful that it sent Fai flying backward. He flew through the maze until he landed on the wall.
