Chapter 17 - The Mirror That Sees Those Who See You

"**

The night was unnervingly still.

Adam, who had never feared solitude, now found that the very isolation had become his enemy. He sat in the far corner of the room, watching Zira sleep peacefully near a faint fire, as if its glow were trying to ward off something creeping, unseen.

He could feel it—*not see it*—something moving behind the walls, not walking but breathing in silence within the hollow of the place.

He whispered to himself:

*"I'm starting to lose myself."*

But inside him was no longer fragile as before. After what had happened with Zira, and after what he had seen in his grandmother's journal—torn apart and then reshaped by his own hands—he realized that part of Nimora now lived within him. His blood was no longer what it used to be, and his eyes saw what human eyes could not.

And then…

A shadow exploded from the nearby mirror.

Adam stood abruptly, ready for anything, but what emerged was not a monster.

It was a girl.

Beautiful. Majestic. Her black hair fell like waves of the night. Her form made of light and darkness. She didn't smile, nor did she mourn... she simply watched.

Her voice, cold as ice, broke the silence:

— "You were not created to be a grandson... but a gate."

He stared at her, stunned.

— "Who are you?"

— "My name is Osira. I am the shadow of the truth your grandmother hid from you."

She stepped closer, her eyes glowing with a violet hue.

— "Zira may be the key to your heart, but I… am the key to your fate."

Adam faltered, his gaze shifting back to Zira, who had started waking up at the sound of their conversation.

Osira continued:

— "There's something you're hiding from yourself. Something that has yet to be unlocked. That's why you've been tested, why you were born here, in the wrong place, at the wrong time… to be the last reflection before the catastrophe."

She smiled, but it wasn't a smile of affection. It was the smile of someone who knew you were about to drown.

And then, she faded.

Zira looked at him, returning to her previous position, not having seen anything.

Adam remained silent. But he knew… something was changing within him. A power was igniting from within. Memories that didn't belong to him began surfacing in his mind: battles, decisions, love and betrayal, and death… his death.

**Analysis and Themes:**

This part dives deeper into the mystery of Adam's true nature, his connection to Nimora, and the unsettling forces working behind the scenes. The introduction of **Osira**, a being who represents the *shadow of truth*, adds another layer to the puzzle. Unlike Zira, who seems to represent a key to Adam's emotional side, Osira represents a darker, more inevitable force—*fate*. She reveals that Adam is not just a simple "grandson," but a *gate*, a pivotal point for something catastrophic.

The connection between Adam's past, Zira's role in his life, and the dark truth about his origins is becoming clearer, but it raises more questions about the larger forces at play—forces that Adam cannot yet fully understand.
