Chapter 1 - ??? 297

Li Yi and Wei An hurriedly took it, holding the rain shelter on either side above the high platform. At the corner of Chu Han's mother's mouth still lingered blood of a strange color. Her emaciated, skeletal body showed no trace of the slightly plump figure she had had three months ago. The deep strap marks on her wrists and ankles made anyone's heart ache at the sight.

Mother's eyes were closed, her breathing faint and intermittent, growing weaker by the second. She was still conscious, but she didn't even have the strength to open her eyes. Only a single tear slowly slid down from the corner of her eye, where faint crow's feet had already formed.

She still had things she wanted to say—and worries for her son.

Chu Han reached out and gently wiped the tear from the corner of her eye. He didn't say any final words to her because he refused to let this moment become a memory. It would haunt him with such regret that he would rather die.

Whoosh!

He suddenly turned around and strode forward. In an instant, his aura erupted to its peak. A chilling, murderous intent swirled around him, causing the surrounding air to crack and pop with strange explosive sounds.

Slaughter every last one of these scum. Leave none alive!

Ahead lay a long, dimly lit street. The sky was growing darker and darker, making it nearly impossible to see anything beyond ten meters. The entire street was packed densely with zombies, crowded together in this narrow space alongside those mutants and researchers mixed among them. They were still ridiculously shouting things like "Hand over Yuan Xiye!"

Chu Han's footsteps were heavy, each step leaving a deep imprint. His breathing was rapid, the muscles on both arms bulging violently, and his fingers trembled uncontrollably. It was the instinctive reaction of unrestrained killing intent.

Boom!

Another thunderclap and lightning flashed. The sudden burst of light caused the researchers, who had been shouting nonstop, to fall eerily silent all at once. It wasn't the loudness of the thunder that stopped them—it was the expression on Chu Han's face as he walked toward them. Their silence was unnaturally uniform, as if they had coordinated it beforehand.

After the flash, the sky plunged back into darkness, growing even gloomier. In an instant, they could no longer clearly see Chu Han's expression. Although they had only caught a glimpse during that split second of lightning, it sent a chill straight into their bones. Their bodies began trembling uncontrollably as fear surged over them like a tidal wave.

On the pitch-black road, a single figure stood out starkly. Chu Han's body was exceptionally conspicuous on the empty street. Facing a massive horde of enemies, he walked straight toward them without the slightest hesitation. On the entire street, only he was moving against the flow—relentless and fearless.

His eyes were blood-red, his face twisted into a ferocious snarl!

His body wasn't particularly tall or muscular, yet it brought overwhelming shock and oppressive pressure to everyone opposite him. It was as if he weren't an ordinary human at all, but a savage beast powerful enough to make everyone instinctively retreat.

Before the crowd could recover from their terror—

Boom!

Another thunderclap and lightning suddenly erupted. This time,e the lightning was even brighter, allowing the scum on the opposite side to see Chu Han once more. But this time, he was already less than ten meters away from them, moving at a terrifying speed.

And at some unknown point, a huge axe had mysteriously appeared in Chu Han's hand. It hadn't been there a moment ago, but in the next instant, it suddenly materialized without any warning!

It was a massive, heavy axe, pitch black from top to bottom. The blade, even darker than the night itself, didn't reflect any light. Yet the moment anyone saw this axe, an instinctive terror filled their hearts, making them want to turn and flee immediately.

Big. Black. Heavy!

It radiated intense aggression and murderous intent!

After the lightning faded, the street grew even darker. Light was rapidly vanishing. The crowd could no longer see where Chu Han was. All that remained was the sound of approaching footsteps echoing in their ears—like the Grim Reaper marching forward to harvest countless lives.

Ding Siyao, hidden by the roadside with a sniper rifle raised, wore a face full of shock. He had assumed Chu Han had left the axe somewhere and wasn't carrying it. But how had it suddenly appeared just now? Before he could think or get a clear look, the light disappeared again. The street ahead was pitch black, completely stripping away any advantage his sniper rifle might have offered.

He couldn't see anything. How was he supposed to shoot?

At this moment, he deeply regretted not getting himself a weapon—even a steel pipe would have been better. But with it this dark, even hand-to-hand combat would be extremely dangerous. There were so many zombies and an entire group of mutants. Could Chu Han really handle this?
