Chapter 15: The Gang Boss Johnny
The moment Jayem left, Kael and Lawrence swiftly started preparing the computers that the latter brought.
"What about your miscellaneous stuff?" Lawrence called out.
"Just leave it outside for now!" Kael responded, not caring much about the items. He could always replace them. Inwardly, he blamed the butterfly effect. He knew all too well that it was because of him that Jayem was doing something this dangerous.
As soon as Kael and Lawrence finished turning on the computers, they immediately opened the portal, and just when they were about to jump in, they suddenly heard a knock on their door.
"It should be Manager Drex…" Lawrence slightly panicked.
"Do you trust me?" Kael asked as he looked at the portal and the door as if thinking of something.
"At this moment, yes!" Lawrence nodded.
"Then I'll leave Manager Drex to you while I go assist Jayem." Kael proposed.
"That…" Lawrence started contemplating. On one hand, having the two of them was better than just one since they could easily handle the gang boss and whoever else he came along with. But on the other hand, Kael was right, it shouldn't be that hard to eliminate disoriented people. Moreover, they also have to take care of the matter involving Manager Drex.
"Alright!" Lawrence finally agreed.
With Lawrence's agreement, Kael immediately carried his computer upstairs, allowing Lawrence and Manager Drex to handle the contract without the distraction of a nearby portal.
Kael knew that Lawrence had plenty of experience in business. In fact, back in the Cabal of Cards, it was Lawrence who handled the majority of the paperwork, so signing a lease agreement shouldn't be that big of a problem. And if there are any other matters to attend to, he trusts that Lawrence can handle them.
"Just follow me once you are done!" Kael added before finally going to his room and jumping into the portal.
…..
After a brief moment of disorientation, Kael immediately took out his compass to determine the location he had to travel.
Unlike his first arrival in Avalon, this time he respawned at the exact location where he had left off. Only first-time entrants were teleported to random locations. From then on, players would always return to the spot where they last exited.
"Go deeper south!" Kael muttered as he started traversing the forest.
He was already extremely familiar with the forest of Sylvaris Kingdom, considering this was also where he used to conduct the majority of his adventures in his first life. Moreover, he is more knowledgeable right now than anyone in the world when it comes to determining the spawn point of new players in correlation to the location of the portal they entered from Noverra.
Jayem could only make a rough estimation. On the other hand, he could determine the exact location. He simply stayed silent earlier because he wanted them to learn on their own. Of course, it would still be better to have one who has more skill to share one's knowledge, but if they have the idea already, he might as well let them explore and find out the answer themselves instead of constantly involving himself in their process of learning. Anyways, he could always just interrupt if they're wrong.
"If I go a few tens of meters south, then assuming Jayem did put their computers somewhere inside the junk shop, then they'll most likely spawn around here!" Kael finally stopped. "This is even better."
In front of him was a wide open area. Meaning, as soon as the gang boss teleports to Avalon, he'd immediately be able to spot him.
Grabbing his knife and taking out a rope he had prepared, Kael started setting up multiple traps that he could use later on.
…..
Meanwhile, Jayem was already in the process of distracting the gang boss and his other two trusted henchmen using the document Nexus had provided. He had already finished making them watch the video that Kael had made them watch last night, which further ignited their interest in the world of Avalon.
The gang boss, whose name is Johnny, as in Johnny's Junk Shop, looked at Jayem.
"No wonder they returned with plenty of riches," Johnny's eyes lit with greed.
"You two!" Johnny called out to his two loyal henchmen.
Johnny's right-hand man's name was Mick, and his left-hand man's name was Torn.
Jayem already had a rough idea of the skill of Johnny's two loyal henchmen, and he was confident his group could easily take care of them as long as everything went according to plan. And based on the progress so far, it seems highly likely to be the case.
"Yes, boss?!"
Mick and Torn respectfully muttered in response while showing a soldier's stand. The reason for this is that Johnny has a peculiar preference where he wants to be treated like a high-ranking official in the army, which is why whenever they respond, they must stand straight, with their chest out and their chin tucked in. This case only applies, though, to those who swore loyalty to Johnny. As for the others…
Mick and Torn glimpse at Arnold. That man over there doesn't have to, since Johnny didn't even know he existed until today.
Jayem is acting right now as Arnold.
"Is everything ready?"
"Yes, boss!"
Mick and Torn nodded their head respectfully.
"If this turns out to be a scam," Johnny looked at Jayem coldly. "I suggest you start digging your grave once we leave."
Jayem didn't utter a single sound. He already noticed that only people whom Johnny had specifically chosen had the right to utter a sound in front of the latter. Anyone else could only answer when asked; otherwise, they'd get beaten.
"Let's enter!" Johnny decided to go first.
*Whoosh!
Before entering, Mick and Torn threw out threats to Jayem.
"Remember Johnn's words, Arnold!"
"Start praying to the Old Gods and the New Gods!"
*Whoosh! *Whoosh!
"It should be you three that need to pray for your lives!" Jayem started walking to the back.
In the next moment, Jayem removed a piece of cloth that hid a fourth computer.
"Kael told me before that once I entered Avalon, I could enter it again from any computer and would still spawn at my previous exit point."
It's because when one enters Avalon, they don't enter it and get another body. They enter with their own body. And a computer only acts as a portal, not another console where one can create another avatar.
If Kael's words are true, then he should be able to spawn near Johnny's group.
What everyone doesn't know is that he already scouted the location Johnny and his group would spawn earlier. To be exact, it was right after he finished looking for the computers.
A while ago, he decided to rest in Avalon for a brief moment since the quality of air in that world was refreshing and soothing to the body compared to Noverra, which he noticed could also heal the damage to the body a lot quicker. This was proven by Lawrence last night, since the latter was no longer feeling any pain, only soreness after entering Avalon, considering he had just been tortured not so long ago.
"I'll make sure this matter is done within Avalon!" Jayem activated the portal. He might have rested earlier, but that doesn't change the fact that his injured. If Johnny and his henchmen got away from Kael and Lawrence, then he'll have to deal with them on his side. That would just make his situation even more dangerous than it is.
Entering the portal, Jayem was soon transported to a familiar location.
…..
After finishing setting his trap, Keal turned to his watch. "They should be arriving soon."
Although during the process, he noticed that someone had been here before. He isn't sure if this factor will affect the outcome of this operation.
*Whoosh!
In the next moment, bluish particles of light appeared a few tens of meters in front of him as a figure slowly started materializing out of thin air.
"They're here!" Kael immediately rushes forward. He doesn't care if this player wasn't their target; the goal was to eliminate whoever appears in this location.
Kael already got some information before about who the members of that gang are and who he should watch out for after a bit of research on the internet.
As soon as the particles finished forming, he instantly recognized it was Mick, the right-hand man of Johnny.
*Whoosh!
A dagger swiftly passed through Mic's neck and cut his throat.
While in a state of disorientation, Mick couldn't understand how exactly he died.
Things simply happened very fast.
Surveying his surroundings, Kael soon noticed another particle of light that had just finished forming a short distance away from him.
This time, it was Torn.
*Whoosh!
Just like Mick, Torn also died without understanding how or seeing who killed him.
This time, Kael briefly paused to pick up an L-shaped weapon. He didn't bother looking closely and inserted it into a pocket on his waist as he could already guess what it was—a gun.
Despite the easy two kills, Kael still couldn't help but be disappointed.
"Where's Johnny?" Kael started running around the place as his eyes actively started searching for other figures nearby.
