Chapter 8: Welcome to Avalon! Part 2
According to research on the topic of the races of Avalon, it was discovered that the planet was originally inhabited solely by the Human race.
However, due to the presence of mana, people gradually developed distinct traits that closely aligned with the type of magic they specialized in.
And over the years, as those people continued to master their craft, those distinct traits became increasingly apparent until eventually they became completely different from humans.
Naturally, with different beliefs, cultures, and races, war followed soon afterwards.
In that war, the continent of Regalorn was split into six different kingdoms, which are the kingdoms in the present moment.
Although, unlike in the past, when each race strongly didn't welcome the other races, today the six kingdoms now allow other races to visit their territory. Albeit with a lot of limitations, especially if the other race wanted to start living in their territory.
However, that wasn't Kael's intention right now.
"Are we going to go to this so-called Sylvaris Kingdom?" Lawrence interrupted the silence.
"No," Kael shook his head. "Remember that huge vein shown on the news earlier?"
"What about it?"
"We are going to find one of those."
"Eh?" Lawrence paused briefly.
"What's the matter?" Kael looked behind.
"Didn't you just see what happened to those soldiers?"
"That was staged," Kale chuckled.
Kael started explaining to the duo why it was staged.
Unbeknownst to everyone, the video showing a group of soldiers being slaughtered by an unknown beast was actually a staged performance.
If one were to observe closely throughout the entire video, they've never actually shown the appearance of the beast even once. As soon as the so-called beast appeared, the video instantly began shaking violently, and despite that, the camera didn't even show the slightest glimpse of the beast.
And when the soldier holding the camera supposedly died, as if some sort of power intervened, it actually landed to show with full and great emphasis the huge vein of mineral as if saying to everyone watching that they could have such riches for themselves.
After that, it ended, not even showing the people the so-called danger they warned them about.
"For real?"
"Yes!"
"Now that you mentioned that, why weren't they using guns? After all, we were able to bring weapons from Noverra to Avalon, so why didn't they bring such powerful weapons?"
"That's because even if they bring such weapons, it wouldn't work." Kael started explaining again.
It was still quite vivid for Kael when he used to believe that guns would work in Avalon. He was so excited to test it after saving a lot of money to buy guns, but turns out the beast living in this world has such a thick skin that bullets can't penetrate them. Moreover, the weapons and gears found in this world are so tough that they naturally have bulletproofing capabilities.
"How about a laser gun?"
"Would you still use that kind of weapon when you discover there's something even better?"
"What do you mean?"
After the invention of guns, people naturally stopped using bows and arrows. And this process continues for future creations. People would stop using weaker and less practical inventions.
"Let's say there's a simple wooden staff that spews all sorts of elements, can create a powerful shield, or do everything else with only your imagination being the limit, would you continue using a laser gun?"
"Well…"
Now that Kael mentioned it, they'll absolutely use that wooden staff without any question asked. A laser gun can only shoot lasers, but that staff can do a lot more great things, including shooting lasers.
Needless to say, even if one does actually use a wooden staff as a substitute for a laser gun or a conventional gun, such a crude and simple-minded attack can easily be countered by other types of magic that exist in Avalon.
"Not to mention, Noverra is running out of resources. Even if they start using materials from Avalon, it still wouldn't be practical to use weapons that can be easily countered by the weapons invented in this world. So, they adapted."
"And to top it all off, would you continue your crude method when you find out the people of this world have a practical way to make your body stronger? Like so strong that you can practically destroy a spaceship with a single punch?"
There exist only three types of people in Avalon: the ordinary people, the Mages, and the Magic Knights.
Mages use the mana around Avalon to create anything, with their imagination being the only limit.
On the other hand, Magic Knights use the mana to temper their bodies and make them reach a strength above superhuman.
Lastly, the ordinary people, who are people who didn't or can't practice mana.
The people of Noverra are akin to ordinary people.
"Are you serious?"
Lawrence and Jayem looked at each other.
"If that's the case, wouldn't this world be in a much worse condition than Noverra? After all, they only need their bodies to destroy their world!"
"It's because of the existence of Mana," Kael explained.
The existence of mana in Avalon is the huge determining factor in why everything in this world is better than Noverra. Everything practically possesses great capabilities and a certain level of toughness through the tempering or absorption of mana.
The environment in Avalon isn't easily destroyed. To put it simply, a rock in Avalon is stronger than the toughest rock in Noverra. If Noverra blasted a rocket in this world, it would barely bring about the same destruction it could bring if it were blasted in Noverra. That's precisely why the world itself can withstand the presence of powerful beings.
In addition to that, in Noverra, they have to craft a spaceship, a machine that shoots dozens of rockets, or another type of weapon that can kill people. But in Avalon, a Mage only has to train and study hard, and they can pull the same stunt.
Although they do get exhausted, considering they are people as well, unlike machines, they can fix that with a simple intake of a potion or even the drugs Noverra invented. And there's always going to be more people than machines. Not to mention, different races bring about different potential.
In other words, their potential is a lot higher and greater than a mere rocket that explodes. The latter's explosion level only becomes stronger and more devastating. On the other hand, the former can achieve various different feats other than just attacking and killing people.
"How on Noverra do you know all of this information?"
"I've been here before," Kael didn't bother explaining more. Now, if his memory was correct, somewhere close to them is a vein.
"Mind telling us why we are looking for a vein instead of, you know, the first thing to do in surviving, finding a shelter?" Lawrence interrupted once more.
"First and foremost, we have shelter, that's my apartment. And secondly, that's exactly why we need the vein, to survive."
"I don't get it," Lawrence said, still confused. He looks at Jayem, hoping the latter would know since he has been quiet.
"Don't ask me, even I don't know," Jayem defended.
"If we go back to Noverra now, where do you think we will appear?"
"Right inside your apartment,"
"Now, suppose we offended someone and that someone just happened to know where we live,"
"Oh,"
Lawrence and Jayem finally understood.
Simply put, one's enemy could just wait at their portal to kill them.
In the past, other than the issue with teleporting randomly, there was also the issue called spawn camping, which is when someone, mostly one's enemy, waits at the portal where their target entered, and when they get out, kills them. This was achieved through abusing the temporary loss of consciousness, giving them the best chance to kill a defenseless target.
That kind of issue was never fixed in the past. That's why players started seeking locations with better security and ways to counter spawn campers.
And one of the best ways, especially if one were staying in Rustfall, was to get out of Rustfall!
The only way to do that was to have money to buy a fare to go to one of the continents.
To get money is to bring resources from Avalon to Noverra and sell them to merchants, which, in the majority of cases, and the best, are those that belong to Nexus.
Fortunately, every continent has one, including Rustfall.
That's right! The first goal was to become financially stable before exploring Avalon.
A lot of people in the past made the mistake of immediately exploring Avalon from the moment they teleported, and because of that, they didn't have a strong enough foundation. As a result of that, they ended up becoming slaves of powerful organizations by imprisoning them in their headquarters and forcing them into labor after becoming victims of spawn campers.
Understanding the part that they needed to be rich quickly, otherwise they'd be in danger, Lawrence and Jayem no longer asked more questions and instead decided to actively search for any resources they could sell other than the vein.
Kael didn't bother stopping them because that actually helps their group get more money.
