Chapter 7 - Welcome to Avalon! Part 1

Chapter 7: Welcome to Avalon! Part 1

In the next moment, three bluish portals opened up in front of the trio's respective computers, which prompted Lawrence and Jayem to fall back from their seat and fall to the lower bunk bed. On the other hand, Kael was already prepared for it, so he stood unfazed at the surprising appearance of portals.

"You've done it, haven't you?" Lawrence scratched his cheeks in embarrassment. He was much older than Kael, but the way he acted was as if the latter was much mature and experienced than him.

Jayem chuckled.

"Since our portals are closed, we'd most likely get teleported close to each other. So, once you arrive, quickly adjust to the environment and try to find a tall tree to scout the area and look for one another. We have to find each other as soon as possible!" Kael explained as he grabbed his luggage.

"Alright!"

Lawrence and Jayem nodded their heads as they also reached out for the bags Kael had assigned to them.

In the next moment, the trio jumped inside the portals without any hesitation.

…..

*Chirp! *Chirp!

The soothing sound of the bird chirping nearby pulled Kael's thoughts back to himself.

Although he has done this so countless of times in his first life, the journey from Noverra to Avalon through the portal felt so heavy that he almost lost consciousness along the way. This was a natural feeling because his entire being was pulled by an unknown powerful energy and forcefully inserted into another space that nobody knows how far exactly from Noverra. Not to mention, nothing was protecting his body on the journey other than the wilderness attire he is currently wearing.

Honestly, this was the fault of his still-weak body. If this were the body of his first life, then he'd be able to immediately start fighting right after going through the portal.

Kael slowly opened his eyes and was soon greeted by a bright ray of sunlight that passed through a dense cover of leaves from the nearby tree.

"Finally, I'm back!" Kael can't help celebrating inwardly.

Looking around the place, he could instantly feel the fresh breeze of air as if untainted by any sort of pollution, the softness of grass underneath his boots that cushioned his weight without any problem, and the feeling as if he were surrounded by pure energy.

"Mana…" Kael muttered under his breath.

Unlike Noverra, which was tainted by pollution, unchecked energy use, and relentless modernization, Avalon was like a pure, untainted noble lady.

And because of how pure Avalon was, Mana naturally came into existence, which is a culmination of pure energy gathered from every single life force that breathes and walks this world.

From the plants in front of him, to the ground underneath, and the sky up above his head, each and every piece of living or non-living organism contributes to the life force that creates Mana.

And the existence of this Mana is what made Avalon a paradise and a sanctuary.

"It's good to see the sight of green and blue again," Kael inhales loudly. As if some sort of unknown energy had entered his body, his lungs and airways suddenly felt clear and refreshing. "I miss this feeling."

Just staying in Rustfall for two days was already more than enough to make him feel so suffocated that he felt like holding his breath was much better than inhaling such polluted air.

This could only happen because he had already left his life in Rustfall for a very long time, ever since entering Avalon. Not because he spent most of his time in this world, but because after earning enough money, he transferred to the other continents, which have slightly better air, albeit it was still nothing compared to this world.

Setting that aside, Kael started looking for the tallest tree near him.

The location where one puts their computer determines the location they'll spawn after entering Avalon. If more than one computer is closed, then they'll spawn close to each other. This was the reason why players were easily able to gather together in a short span of time.

Needless to say, this also becomes the primary reason for countless deaths occurring on the first day alone.

That's because there's no way of knowing if one would land in a safe area or a dangerous place.

In the past, countless cases were reported about players landing near a monster's nest or even right in the middle of the ocean. If only those players weren't skilled enough, they'd be adding to the total death count on day one.

This was why he was confident of setting up his and the duo's computers in his place, because the location he spawned in his first life was a safe area. The only problem is that this also means his neighbors in the apartment complex, who will also enter Avalon in the future, should also spawn close by.

"I will have to disguise myself later on," Kael noted to himself before climbing on top of the tallest tree he found.

Fortunately, other players are still busy reading the manual sent by Nexus at this moment, meaning if he spots anyone nearby, they'd most likely be Lawrence or Jayem.

"Oi! Kael!"

Kael quickly heard Lawrence's voice. The latter was having a lot of difficulty balancing himself while waving his hand, evidently showing that he lacked experience when it comes to climbing trees. This was a given considering the type of environment Rustfall was.

"Have you spotted Jayem?" Kael responded.

"Not yet!"

"Wait there! I'll come to you!"

"Thank you!" Lawrence felt really grateful. If this were Rustfall, he'd be able to easily tell the location of someone just by looking at their background. But in this unfamiliar green environment, he was certain he'd easily get lost. In fact, when he stared in the forest just now, he felt like walking in the dark even though the sun was shining brightly.

Not long after, Kael finally reached Lawrence's location. The latter was having a hard time climbing down the tree.

"Sup!"

Kael and Lawrence jumped back in surprise.

It was Jayem.

"How'd you find us?" Lawrence can't believe it.

"This might be an unfamiliar environment for me, but if I replace the trees with poles and the ground with debris, then it's no different from Rustfall," Jayem explained.

"You…"

"Enough with that," Kael interrupted as he took out his compass from his luggage. This was an item he found in the junk shop, but not today. He had discovered it a long time ago. Every scrapper carries one that helps them navigate every junk shop they visit.

"A compass, eh?" Lawrence could really feel how dependable Kael was. He didn't even see the latter putting it inside his luggage earlier.

"Where are we going?"

Kael was already very familiar with this place. "We are somewhere in the territory of Sylvaris Kingdom."

"Sylvaris Kingdom?"

"It's one of the six kingdoms in the Regalorn continent that is ruled by a race that calls themselves Elves," Kael explained.

In the world of Avalon, there are a total of three continents: Regarlorn, known as the Land of Royalty; Exvoria, the Land Beyond; and Mythral, the Land of Legend.

The majority of the population of Avalon lives on the continent of Regarlorn, which has a total of six kingdoms: Murkwatch Kingdom, Drakhelm Kingdom, Sylvaris Kingdom, Solmara Kingdom, Veldris Kingdom, and Noctharis Kingdom.

Each of these kingdoms rules a different region of Regarlorn, which consists of a total of six regions.

The Murkwatch Kingdom rules the Swap Region.

Drakhelm Kingdom rules the Mountain Region.

Sylvaris Kingdom rules the Forest Region.

Solmara Kingdom rules the Desert Region.

Veldris Kingdom rules the Plains Region.

And lastly, which is surrounded by the five regions, is the Noctharis Kingdom, which rules the Central Region.

Naturally, each Kingdom is different from the others. Not simply because of beliefs, environment, and culture, but also the beings that live in those kingdoms.

"What are Elves?"

"Elves are an ancient, graceful, and highly intelligent race with a deep connection to nature, spirit, and mana. Their characteristics can be basically described as someone with pointed ears, sharp features, and a slender, elegant build. They are the epitome of beauty and grace!"

"I lost you in the part with spirit and mana," Lawrence sighed in resignation.

"We'll talk about this later," Kael chuckled. This was natural for people who arrived in Avalon for the first time. It's only later on that players realized the importance of understanding Avalon that players started researching and studying everything about this world.

One of those studies was about the races that live in Avalon.

Unlike Noverra, which is inhabited solely by humans, or part human because of the advancement of technology, the world of Avalon is home to seven distinct races, one of which Kael had never even seen in his first life, as they are quite elusive, and only traces of their race could be found.
